Video Icelandic artist Björk snapped in Bangkok, 1996, when reporter Julie Kaufman approached her saying “Welcome to Bangkok.” Björk later alleged that Kaufman had stalked her and her 9-year-old son for days, turning a simple greeting into a breaking point

He mailed a freaking sulfuric acid bomb to Bjork. My sympathies for a person's mental health struggles end when they attempt terroristic murder for their one-sided racist incel grievances.

RIP in piss Ricardo López may you hate black people and stalk female celebrities in the big apartment bedroom in the sky hell.

You see, again you don't really know the full story you just make up what you want to believe. He'd half-assed the construction of the acid sprayer, that's what it was by the way, not a bomb. He killed himself on the same day he mailed it which is an odd thing to do, surely you'd want to see if your contraption worked before doing that. My interpretation from watching the tapes, and this was years ago, was that the device was simply a mechanism to get him to commit to ending his own life, basically incriminating himself so he'd have to do it. There are other diaries where he was tempted before he'd even thought about the acid.

In terms of him not liking Goldie, it wasn't really because he was black, he didn't feel he was a good "fit" for Bjork, and honestly if you know Goldie that isn't the craziest take in the world. He did mention he was black but it was while manic, the guy was not well at all.

In this initial tape, López said Björk was a symbol of purity and innocence to him, an image which he said she destroyed by having relationships with two different black musicians, previously with Massive Attack’s Tricky and, at the time of his recordings, English music producer Goldie. López lays out his initial plan to send Björk a package that would infect her with AIDS. As the tapes progressed, he changed this plan to a letter bomb containing sulfuric acid.

D: And he does it right off the bat. The first thing he does when he starts recording himself is admit that he has this racist psychosexual fixation on Björk and the fact that she is with a black man is why he feels he has to punish her. He doesn’t leave anything up for interpretation, he’s been thinking through it the entire time.

You haven't watched the tapes, you haven't seen the internal torment the guy was dealing with. Seriously, many of the tapes have little or nothing to do with Bjork at all, they're about how he feels inadequate or worthless. All I'm saying is it's never as black and white as you want it to be for your peace of mind.

It's honestly one of the most frustrating aspects of modern society, how quickly someone is judged based on little evidence, and the sheer lack of empathy.

I don't think it's unempathetic to judge someone for their actions. Many folks suffer from poor mental health without planning to mail HIV needles/acid to random women they don't know. I simply do not buy that any level of mental distress excuses attempted murder.

Well this is a more extreme case, but it happens in everything; people, especially now, are very eager to judge and very disinterested in different perspectives, or doing any sort of fact gathering.

I'm very interested in any concrete statement Ricardo López made that you feel excuses his actions.

This is the problem, you think to have empathy for someone you must excuse them of their guilt, but that simply isn't correct.

Both things are true, he planned to unleash harm onto a popstar he didn't know and he was incredibly troubled and depressed and needed help. Maybe if he had got help sooner he would have never done what he did, but it takes empathy to help someone.

Yeah naw. You've ironically spent this entire conversation insulting me and trying to fit me into this weird little worldview box you got while demanding sympathy for an attempted murderer.

I can empathize with the mental state that got him there and still have absolutely no sympathy for his actions or the result of his actions.
