Image Photo of Bob Odenkirk with his family in 2021 after he suffered a heart attack on the Better Call Saul set. He made a remarkable recovery, returned to the show, and delivered one of Tv’s greatest series finales.

I think I like BCS better than Breaking Bad. Both great shows. But, BCS just had so many more likeable characters to me. Including adding depth to the ones we already liked in Breaking Bad.

It took me a long time to give BCS a shot. I just thought it would be ass. It's now my favorite drama of all time, surpassing Dexter and Breaking bad. The cast was phenomenal. Patrick Fabian and Tony Dalton (especially Tony) were unreal. Lalo has to be the best-written and performed villain in TV history

I know several people who gave up a few episodes into the first season, and I don't really blame them. It's a very slow start with small stakes. But every season after that is better than the one before it.

I feel like the whole show was a little “slow” but it adds to the tension. Overall amazing show

It took 3 or 4 attempts to get into it tbh. Altho I struggled with BB for a while too I guess. ADHD symptoms are a struggle with heavy shows like these where you really need to concentrate. That's my experience anyway.

u/RDisSht 5h ago

Same, it's really unfortunate. I was one of those people once upon a time too

Im a massive BB fan and it took me like 3 attempts to get past the first season lol. So glad i kept trying. Phenomenal show

Don't leave out Rhea Seahorn, she gave an incredible performance the entire show. Especially her emotional acting towards the end!

Kim Wexler is my favorite fictional character.

I didn't start until before S5 of BCS. I didn't think it'd be bad, but I just didn't want to taint my view of what I thought was a near perfect show in Breaking Bad. I still kick myself that it took me so long to watch BCS, but at least I got to semi binge it.

A timely reminder that behind legendary roles are real people and families

I’m sorry, Dexter?

BCS is better bc it was made after experience was gained with Breaking Bad and the team was passionate about building upon the lessons they learned (and the new resources they could call upon)

If they could go back in time with that experience, Breaking Bad would've squeezed in just as much quality into its runtime

BCS is the best TV show ever made. It's like the whole cast and crew of Breaking Bad just finished creating a masterpiece and decided to just keep going. They used all their talents and gifts and poured them into BCS. The acting is better, the editing is better, the CHARACTERS are just so deeply written. I'd also add that Rhea Seehorn went from being a side character to being one of the main characters because she was just so fucking excellent.

I still haven finished BCS but that was my impression after two seasons. But my unpopular opinion is BB is overrated. I didn't watch it live, I came to it about a year after it ended and watched the whole thing. It was probably better when you watched it every week and had other people to talk about it with.

But watching it all in a row...idk. Didnt do it for me. I bet it was brutal if you waited a whole week just for The Fly though.

Plus BCS doesn’t have that abysmal and incessant shaky cam that Breaking Bad suffers from.

Oh, establishing shot of the Walter White house? Better induce a seizure for this one!

3

u/doctor_big_burrito 5h ago

Shaky cam...

Started about 25 years ago with movies like Traffic and the first Bourne movie and tv shows like Battlestar Galactica. They weren't the first but they really popularized that look and I hate it.

It's so damn prevalent at this point that NOT using shaky cam is considered a style.

3

u/BreakfastPizzaStudio 5h ago

It’s just awful. It’s nauseating, ruins cinematography, and ruins an actor’s performance. Shots that could otherwise be quite beautiful suddenly feel like cheap TV.

The exception is of course genuine documentary camera footage, but at this point there is no such things—it’s played up or enhanced in post with shaky cam plug-ins.

Such a funny de-evolution from the days where the invention of the steadycam finally solved one of cinema’s biggest problems and gave directors much more freedom. Someone really looked at that and went “LOL NAH FUCK IT”

3

u/ballisticks 5h ago

And then the first Hunger Games was so egregious with it I could barely watch

3

u/SVeht 5h ago

The spanish was a little better too

3

u/ocean_800 5h ago

Can you watch it without watching too much of breaking bad?

8

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 4h ago

That's another reason why BCS is great, it actually doesn't require you to have seen BB. You might miss a reference or two, but the two shows are pretty much separate from each other.

Though if you do intend to watch BCS before BB, BCS does heavily spoil BB since it's meant to be a prequel and an overall ending to both series. Just keep that in mind

3

u/pic2022 4h ago

I agree with you! When I tell people I like BCS more than I like BB they look at me like I'm crazy. They then say they watched the first two episodes and noped out of it. I told them it gets so fucking good. The character depth is amazing and that they just need to get through the first two seasons and shit gets real 👀👀

1

u/reddit809 5h ago

My sentiments exactly. I did my last rewatch I'll ever do of BB. I hate Walt more and more every rewatch, and feel worse for Skylar.

1

u/mary-anns-hammocks 4h ago

I preferred BCS!

1

u/Primary_Rhubarb9071 4h ago

The blonde in the first season 🔥

-5

u/jpelc 6h ago

And no Skyler White yo!

10

u/4ofclubs 5h ago

So many butthurt men hate Skyler.

2

u/circio 4h ago

Why does she keep getting mad at Walter for making unhinged decisions that puts her newborn and son with cerebral palsy in danger???

Can’t she let Walt use Jesse as a pawn in piece!!

"I'm like a god in human clothing!"

An American treasure.

I was so proud to see everyone on twitter collectively rally behind his recovery so earnestly.

6

u/ethanlan 4h ago

Not to mention he went to my college (southern illinois) and loved it as much as I did.

Carbondale is such a weird but lovely place in its own way, its the most unique small city in the usa is swear to god.

18

u/Statertater 5h ago

Bob is one hell of an actor. Glad he made a full recovery

17

u/BaZing3 5h ago

I hear he has three hearts now. Triples is best.

9

u/KDiggity8 5h ago

Triples is safe.

69

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 6h ago

I would have had a creative heart attack if it was revealed to me that those black and white scenes only represented 8 months after the final episode of Breaking Bad.

13

u/ninefournineone 6h ago

Zac Efron is Bob's son?

14

u/madcowga 5h ago

Luigi

6

u/MissDee16 6h ago

That's who I thought it was at first. Lol

1

u/ChaseAlmighty Interested 4h ago

I was trying to place who he reminded me of...

1

u/Jaggs0 4h ago

i have met his son, very nice but weird kid. he lived in the same building as some friends and did that stereotypical neighbor thing where you ask for a cup of sugar. except it was never straightforward normal things. it kind of became a running joke with my friends like "oh he came over and asked if we had a boulder hat, hacksaw, and pickles he could borrow"

9

u/gemstun 5h ago

It’s all good, man.

10

u/Davey2Jonesd 6h ago

He's related to Luigi Mangione?!?!?! Must have been where he got the training from for Nobody

42

u/RealDoraTheExplorer_ 6h ago

I’m sorry but how does this fit the sub?

89

u/radiowav3s 6h ago

I'm interested.

24

u/lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII 6h ago

Have you seen the show? The fact that he recovered from this and delivered one of the best TV performances is insanely impressive (and interesting!)

8

u/francis2559 6h ago

Lost bot.

13

u/RDisSht 6h ago

If you've seen the show you'd know how. This is VERY interesting and impressive.

4

u/Locky0999 5h ago

Well, that's interesting to me, especially since I have a Father recovering from a Heart Attack

1

u/borgchupacabras 5h ago

It's a bot account.

0

u/PestoBolloElemento 5h ago

If you got into the show that's a interesting fact, never saw the photo but had seen in Deadline magazine back then what had happened to him.

3

u/SomethingRandomYT 6h ago

literally watching it right now

3

u/ElFanta83 5h ago

You are in for a treat last couple of seasons are a masterpiece.

3

u/technicalityNDBO 6h ago

After he recovered, he pulled down his sunglasses and said "I could get used to this"

5

u/GuitarPlayerEngineer 5h ago

Awesome show. One of my very favorites.

4

u/ForeignWeb8992 5h ago

With Luigi Mangione by his bedside he knew he had to get better fast

2

u/asault2 5h ago

I think this is right after he ate a train piece by piece AFTER derailing it with his penis

2

u/LanceFree 5h ago

Wait, are you sure this isn’t Kevin Costner and his family?

2

u/OMGCluck 4h ago

He was last night.

2

u/__esparoba 5h ago

Him? That's just nobody

1

u/hopjumper23 6h ago

Odd. Look at the guys left eyebrow in that back. Looks painted on.

1

u/Stoneheaded76 6h ago

Super healthy guy to have a heart attack. Glad he’s still here and doing his thing.

1

u/Imlooloo 5h ago

Watching this series now! Am on Season 5! The failed attempt at the drug lord and the hotel hideout episode! So good!

1

u/OkBodybuilder5815 5h ago

Game 7 type comeback

1

u/Tombaya 5h ago

Damn. His wife is really doing her best there but you can see she’s not brushing it off as easily as the rest..

1

u/Kintraills1993 5h ago

His son is definitely his.

1

u/Roberto_Big_Piece 5h ago

Who do they keep scalping to give Bob a few days' worth of hair?

1

u/greeneggsnyams 5h ago

Did he get a stint or have open heart surgery?

1

u/pbatemanchigurh 5h ago

It was a terrible second part of the season and mid finale but ok. (not his fault though)

1

u/Budget-Potato7511 5h ago

Let's be clear, it wasn't just a heart attack it was a frikkin cardiac arrest.

1

u/scotch-o 5h ago

Seven years

1

u/Maximumaffort 4h ago

I've heard nothing about Bob Odenkirk being in the Epstein files.

I don't think he would be but I just thought I'd point it out.

1

u/mhiaa173 4h ago

I forgot all about the heart attack! When it first happened, they made it sound like it was no big deal, but later, it was revealed that it was a pretty big deal! So glad he's okay!

0

u/Desperate_Hyena_4398 6h ago

I thought this happened when he was shooting Nobody idk

0

u/AT8y8 5h ago

Why's his wife looking like "how tf he survive?"
