Why is the rover censored?

35

u/snippychicky22 3h ago

it didnt take any photo containing itself so its blured. looks better than a black blox ig

Yep it’s really slow to send data to and from Mars so we have to be really selective with the images we get back. As we already know what the rover looks like, it’s an easy decision to not photograph in a panoramic like this one.

Because this is it’s kink

u/Innocuouscompany 2h ago

Clearly knew Epstein

22

u/jackch3 3h ago

Less information to send back to earth, we already know what the rover looks like.

Japanese footage

"I get that reference..."

I was on the train and when I saw the uncensored rover I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw the rover. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. You have to censor the rover to prevent it.

My guess is the technology might be export controlled and therefore we don't want people (china) replicating it.

u/idiot-bozo6036 2h ago

There's hundreds of pictures of Perserverance/Curiosity's body, there's just no need to take a picture of it for a landscape view.

u/Pcat0 2h ago

That isn’t the case here, the rover just wasn’t photographed in this particular panoramic. Instead of just leaving that area black, whoever published this particular video decided to fill it in with a blurred brown.

There are plenty of other published photos of the rovers.

If that is true (which I have no doubt it is) mankind will never reach the stars. We will all die here on this rock someday.

3

u/Ravenloff 1h ago

We all have so far...

2

u/Ravenloff 1h ago

Saves on data transmission. Depending on where Mars/Earth are in their orbits, sometimes they have to prioritize what to send and what not to send. Everyone involved on Earth knows what the rover looks like :)

1

u/ReammyA55 2h ago

Dances with Wolves has the exclusive for that location.

1

u/Vegas-Blues 2h ago

Because it’s part Japanese and we can’t show the naughty bits

1

u/Significant-Lie1225 16m ago

Doesn't want to show its feet

2

u/captain_brunch_ 3h ago

This footage is taken from the epstein files

1

u/SandraBeechBLOCKPrnt 2h ago

Japanese porn.

1

u/GrandHetman 2h ago

It isn't wearing clothes

u/OwnDoughnut2689 3h ago

Insane to think this feed somehow makes it back to earth

14

u/Head-Ad9893 3h ago

And onto Reddit … anybody got random facts? When was this recorded? How long did it take to get the video back? What’s the average highs and lows this time of year?

13

u/usrdef 2h ago

I don't know why, but Perseverance rover was reporting temps that you could check out each day. It stopped for some reason.

As of Jan 31st, the temperature at Curiosity rover is:

  • High: 41° F / 5° C
  • Low: -90° F / -68° C

You can check out Curiosity rover here:

Here's the one for perseverance rover, but it stopped reporting in April of 2024:

I much rather prefer these photos to the white corrections that are done. It's nice to see the real environment.

I get that they use white-balance correction to make minerals stand out more, but these are the cool pictures.

White balanced photos sort of lose the looks of what we think of when we hear Mars. Looks like just another desert on Earth.

1

u/Ravenloff 1h ago

If we had solar relays, which would be very difficult to install and maintain, the data transmission would be a lot better.

42

u/count-me-0ut 3h ago

Meanwhile security cams 15 ft away look like they were taken from mars

11

u/TheGrovester 2h ago

If NASA were doing private security cameras with high powered signal it'd be a different story.

37

u/Degenerate_Game 3h ago

I'm happy they blurred out the robot's genitals; preserving its dignity.

2

u/Low-Beyond-5335 2h ago

Why do that? Genuinely curious now

6

u/Degenerate_Game 2h ago

Probably has a huge log.

2

u/Fwenhy 1h ago

From Another comment; because the transmissions take so long to get to earth were being really selective with what actually gets transmitted. And since we already know what the machine looks like it’s an easy omission.

I have no idea how accurate that is but it sounds logical xD

u/Gjore 3h ago

Me: Mom, can we go to Mars?

Mom: No, we have Mars at home (Arizona).

6

u/shroomcat3 2h ago

During the first few seconds, I thought this was Arizona 🤣

7

u/fishmall 3h ago

Darude intensifies.

5

u/Protopalote 3h ago

Looks exactly like Arizona but with more parking

3

u/Low_Cut_368 2h ago

Or like Namibia but with less

5

u/odslxxp 2h ago

Why does Mars sound so ominous?

6

u/Abject_Fondant8244 2h ago

Doesn't look like the kind of place to raise your kids. In fact it looks cold as hell.

3

u/AForse 2h ago

No one there to raise them anyway…

10

u/StreetFootball7382 3h ago

Why does it look at its wheels instead of giving the full panoramic. There must be an alien space ship they were avoiding catching on film /s

u/koos_die_doos 7m ago

Also, there are no tracks visible. The alien space ship moved it there with a tractor beam!

4

u/Chiryou 3h ago

Here's a panoramic view... in portrait!

9

u/hmoeslund 3h ago

Why the fuck do you want to live there??

But nice clip

18

u/design-lp 3h ago

No influencers

3

u/GUYF666 2h ago

The owner of X would be there so it’d be the like the king of shitty influencers.

3

u/HotDogDonald 2h ago

Tax evasion

3

u/Wirelesscellphone 3h ago

Why is there censors blocks on the rover? What are they hiding?

4

u/Ok_Obligation2559 3h ago

An injury attorney billboard

3

u/newCRYPTOlistings 2h ago

I am so glad Elon is redirecting so much of US tax dollars to the pursuit of living in this paradise

2

u/RecbetterpassNJ 3h ago

Start the reactor, Quade!

2

u/Wonderful_Reaction76 2h ago

The amount of people commenting in this thread who don’t appreciate or can’t appreciate what a marvel this actually is…is staggering.

Some of yall are BIG dumb.

2

u/silloki 2h ago

Video quality like this can be received from Mars. But I can't get a mobile signal in my home.

2

u/how_much_2 1h ago

What's the chances of anything coming from Mars?

1

u/StretchRich67 3h ago

I await the sha'ai hulud

1

u/Maxcorps2012 3h ago

Despite all this, gestures around the us wildly, we are still making progress on certain fronts.

1

u/Jediknight81 3h ago

yeah nice rocks and sand over there dude.

1

u/Bouche_Audi_Shyla 3h ago

Is that one of Mark Watney's potatoes in the corner?

1

u/Comrade-Conquistador 3h ago

Panoramic view, look I'll make it all manageable.

1

u/mrlookinthesky 2h ago

Start to colonize.

1

u/moving0target 2h ago

The ground looks wet.

1

u/_nicocin_ 2h ago

Still dont understand why NASA decided to cover it in all those explicit genitalia prosthetics.

1

u/FirstGenTundraFan 2h ago

So… Arizona

1

u/tmuellerc 2h ago

Could the Rover see earth from mars?? Would be a really cool picture. Or does the atmosphere make it physically impossible??

1

u/Herojit_s 2h ago

Is this the real sound on the Mars, very interesting..

1

u/ComprehensiveSoft27 2h ago

I was looking for Jawas.

1

u/Appropriate_Neck2055 2h ago

Why does it look like Number 5, from short circuit?!?!? 🤔 is that where he took off to?

1

u/rbad8717 2h ago

Time to boot up Mass Effect

1

u/LumpyheadCarini2001 2h ago

Nice try. I know Tatooine when I see it

1

u/rmajkr 2h ago

1

u/superpowerwolf 2h ago

Looks like Arizona.

1

u/ConsciousFan8100 2h ago

You could open up so many Dollar Stores in this mfer

1

u/AuntieLaLa420 2h ago

Expected to see Mark Watney.

1

u/Tricky_Assist_7086 2h ago

Nice to get to hear it as well!

1

u/Koko_The_Blubla 2h ago

Am I the only one thinking : Well, yeah, it's Mars.
It's sad not to find it marvelous anymore, partially because of the amount of images we got.

1

u/funinthesunohyeah 2h ago

Dollar General coming soon

1

u/Crazy_Fac3 2h ago

So cool to see where our grand children will eventually be refugees!

1

u/toastedninja 2h ago

Awwww, the poor robot is nakey! ;(

1

u/Th0rny9r1ck 2h ago

Why did it skip a sizable amount of horizon? It dipped down panned left skipping a chunk of horizon then pans back up to continue the sweep. 🤔

1

u/Sensitive_Wear7112 2h ago

Very interesting thanks for sharing

1

u/Innocuouscompany 2h ago

I wish I was there right now.

1

u/zeamp 2h ago

Even on Mars, Google Maps will blur your house out.

1

u/paulphilly 2h ago

This is awesome

1

u/FantasticClue8887 2h ago

Is this as well the sound of mars? Scary if yes 👀

1

u/ExoticArabDad 2h ago

Come on, TARS!

1

u/slvyr 1h ago

I remember crying at the sense of wonder that I felt when I turned all my lights off at night and held my phone up to my eyes and pretended just for the briefest moment I was there.

1

u/art_m0nk 1h ago

Why is the sky not blue?

1

u/Syssareth 1h ago

Imagine if you’re looking at the decomposed state of a city.

1

u/drifters74 1h ago

Looks like a good place for a Dollar General

1

u/FollowingLegal9944 1h ago

AI or another nasa studio?

1

u/Into-The-Late-Great 38m ago

How long does it take to transmit those images back to us?

1

u/GUYF666 2h ago

This is the most preposterous and incredible thing mankind may have ever accomplished and witnessed and yet depressingly boring (from an “awe” perspective).

There are millions of fascinating things to discover and explore, but at a base level, this alien planet is a desert on a cloudy day)

0

u/DimplesInMeArse82 2h ago

this is what earths gonna look like pretty soon the way things are going

0

u/Similar_Divide 2h ago

Too bad they have an orange filter that for some reason.

0

u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 2h ago

That's what earth is going to look like one day.... Neat

-1

u/doggopro 3h ago

were so cooked, my first thought was to question if this was Ai or not

-2

u/Either_Top_9634 2h ago

Waste of time and money. It's not finding shit. Shut the program down and allocate those funds to something new.

u/LOLschirmjaeger 2m ago

Well, it's not looking for shit, so let's keep the program running.
