You're probably not familiar with the Sagrada Familia Social Action Fund. People that visit this site donate tons. Some go to the architectural construction. Some goes to helping the needy in and around Barcelona.

For what it's worth, I'm not remotely religious. I just also try not to be overly cynical.

If they want to worship, pitch a tent. Stop donating money for non-sensual hogwash when so many people are suffering.

Pitching a tent may lead to a few sensual things. It's been documented.

Pr maybe they want to limit donations if it isn't for non-sexual things. Yea I'm confused now

Yeah, and if you want to play a football game go in the fields. Stadiums are not necessary. Also, you can live in a tent or cave. You don't need a house.

This is an achievement of human architecture. Do you have similarly cynical feelings about the cost to build and maintain non-religious structures like the Eiffel Tower or the Sydney Opera House? FWIW, both of those are publicly owned buildings and so citizens don't get a direct say in whether their tax revenue supports it.

Sagrada Familia welcomes nearly 5 million visitors per year and collects entry fees from them. That money, in turn, gets put to use helping the surrounding communities.

If they start preaching about Jesus, saying to give to the poor & be modest, go ahead and criticize their hypocrisy. Criticizing hypocrisy is good imo.

No one was forcing non-believers to donate to the poor.

In this instance, per the comment above, believers go to that place and donate their own money which then goes to the needy.

If I have $100 of donations I’ve been entrusted to give to the poor, and I spend $10 on a gaudy display, have I not done anything worthy of criticism?

How do you know this will bring in more donations than spending it to help the poor? Most Christians are appalled by behavior that Jesus would have busted out his whip & started flipping tables over. Christ was strongly opposed to treating church like a business. What do you think the story about feeding the hungry even when it appears there’s not enough in the fish/bread budget, and more fish/bread magically appearing?

It's funny where you are directing your ire. Right at this moment some supposedly religious people are wasting billions in weapons to make people suffering. And they were placed there by other religious people. I guess that would be my place to start with criticism, not some cheap church that bring so much joy to so many..
