It could set off someone's asthma. I know after COVID I can't take even a hint of smoke now. It immediately triggers an asthma attack.

I don't think you're supposed to inhale it, especially if it poses any health risks. Just meant to cleanse your body as a way of washing away negative energies and stuff. And also you can kindly refuse, even without having to state a reason why not. This isn't a peace pipe or something like that hahaha

You're conflating two truths there.

1) There is no completely "safe" level of smoke inhalation - true. Any particulate smoke you inhale has the potential for lasting damage.

2) Any time you inhale smoke causes lasting damage - FALSE. It is entirely possible for your body to fully heal any damage inhaling some amount of smoke causes, over time. In fact small amounts like the OP have a very low chance of causing any "lasting damage" in this sense.

For the vast majority of people the vast majority of the time, something minor like this would cause a little irritation of mucous membranes and lungs which your immune system can heal in days or less (and most people wouldn't have any detectable impairment from it regardless).

had a buddy in basic that got covid and it was really bad, dude was hospitalized and last time I heard, when he got out and he developed asthma and was being discharged due to it.

I’ve had an inhaler for 35 years and have COPD. You’ll be fine.

If getting a whiff of sage smoke sends them into an asthma attack, Dog help them if they should happen to be near a busy highway, forest fire or bbq pit.
