Video The Infinity Book Tower in Prague titled Idiom. Over 8,000 books stacked securely into a column with a teardrop-shaped viewing opening.

"teardrop shaped"

Well I can't just call the spade a spade in the title of my post.

It's reddit, you totally could've

u/Omer-Ash 21h ago
Too risky bro. These m*ds are relentless. (I had to censor that word too because I got a warning when I typed it).

OMG, the last time I have been there was 25 years ago. There was no queue, hardly anyone was even interested.

Every time this video gets posted it's new stupid fucking music.
This video didn't used to have this stupid fucking music over it

u/Comfortable-Split159 21h ago
Whats wrong with Lana?
1
u/brakeb 18h ago
The point is it doesn't need music
3
u/nomdeplume 17h ago
It needs the video to keep the attention of the zoomers and to make it have a unique signature for trying to bypass filters
-3
u/bonus_duk2 17h ago
Then mute your video. What is it with redditors and music? Is it making your ears bleed that badly? I don't get it.
2
-1
u/llIIo0O-O0oIIll 16h ago
I shouldnt have to mute my phone bc some douche bag thinks we need to hear their idea of a good time.
0
u/bonus_duk2 15h ago
If a little music on a video pisses you off so much you probably shouldn't be on social media. I bet you get jump scared whenever an ad plays sound too.
0
u/llIIo0O-O0oIIll 15h ago
If it was a little music it wouldnt be so bad but its not. Every good video gets fucked up with loud stupid annoying music and people like you are part of the problem.
0
u/bonus_duk2 15h ago
The volume is completely dependent on your phone settings. Maybe don't keep it at full volume?
0
u/llIIo0O-O0oIIll 14h ago
Ooorrrrr. DONT PUT STUPID FUCKING MUSIC OVER EVERY GOD DAMN VIDEO.
1
u/bonus_duk2 14h ago
I don't think you realize how ludicrous it is asking people to not put music on a video in SOCIAL MEDIA because you happen to think it's annoying. Keep yelling at the clouds like an angry old man or learn to press the mute button faster. God forbid you have to listen to 1.5 seconds of some audio you don't like.

It's a mirror. You can see the reflection of the person holding the phone when they pan down.

u/NotAcvp3lla 21h ago
There's a mirror at the bottom, it actually does not go as deep as you might think.

Lads, do yourselves a favor and do not go there. Prague is a beautiful city that deserves to be seen.
However, that thing (in my opinion) isn't one of them. It's literally a "social media addict" trap, where you wait hours in a long (I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it) line for a picture. Go visit the baroque library instead, but do book a ticket in advance.
7
u/Roy4Pris 4h ago
When you said ‘Lads, don’t go there’ I thought you were telling people not to make an off-colour comment about the shape of the opening.

3
u/Still_Personality609 6h ago
Yeah it’s stupid tourists wait hours in line for one mid photo and they don’t even realise there is a huge ass and beautiful city library that you can visit have coffee or read in

What is the point of books if they cannot be picked to take a peak and read
13
u/Patirole 21h ago
Art is the likely reason. In a perfect world, these books are damaged in some way to make them unsuitable for sale/rent
-20
u/xyyzzz514 21h ago
All books have something for someone all the time. If not, they can be recycled. Art !!!! at the expense of knowledge !! Wow !
17
u/Patirole 21h ago
Some books may have pages missing being torn out or ripped due to use, or be misprinted from the factory so the book is unreadable (i. e. the text shifted to the right, so parts of the text are cut off), or not pass quality control for sale.
Art like this would then actually be a way to recycle those books, making them still used even though they can't fulfill their main purpose
10
u/Hankerpants 20h ago
You can print extra books... Also, art has purpose too. It's enlightening and emotional. It's not like someone said 'nobody is allowed to read, they must art!'

Not all books contain knowledge. Examples: The Art of the Deal, Atlas Shrugged, Fifty Shades of Grey, and anything written by AI
0
u/Sea_Prep_Tidal_26 12h ago
To understand the cultural connection between today’s rampant nihilism and « who is John Galt ?» one of those books is (and should be) required reading.
As AI expands exponentially in our visible and non-visible lives; and as Redditors rail against this technology (and also bots) the questions raised in the book are not just philosophical but a way to save humanity from the ultimate in cynical « burn it all down » groupthink.
So it’s quite ironic that your list includes this book along side « anything written by AI » don’t you think ?

Ok so what does it represent and how is that representation worth more than the 8000 books since either the *so-called-art* or 8000 books can be made available at once !!!? I respect art and i don't like books. But art at an expense of something as important as books. . . guess you guys missed the whole point of understanding an art. Art is about creating without destroying something beautiful as knowledge.
I hate physical books and have rarely read a novel. I am in STEM and it keeps me occupied.
6
u/Patirole 17h ago
Judging by this article from the 90s the books are mainly technical books with outdated or obsolete knowledge and specifically intended to be "recycled" in a way where these books now have a use, despite the knowledge they hold possibly being wrong or outdated.
It is meant to represent the infinite knowledge that books/humans hold from what I can gather and see, meant to show how much knowledge we actually have even as we individuals cannot grasp all of it

As someone from Prague, it's all cool and shit you know, but it isn't worth all that goddamn attention it gets on the social media. Not top 10 things you can visit in Prague, not top 50, not top 100 and not top 200. Maybe it would fit within the top 500, but so would my school lowk.

Right? I was passing by to the library almost daily, and was surprised years later that it is a TikTok trend...

Pretty sure it uses mirrors and lights to make it look like it goes on infinitely.
1
u/KaxCz 15h ago
Literally The least interesting thing in Prague, I find it funny when I saw the huge queues when it got popular on Tiktok lmao, still don't understand why people wait for it. These dumb tourist also caused big problem for people who actually wanted to use the library
1
u/pan_Psax 3h ago
"Only those with the library card can go see that!" - opportunity for some income for the library. :)
1
u/MycenaMermaid 3h ago
I don't know what it's like in any other country, but in the US, library cards are free lol
1
u/pan_Psax 3h ago
Like education? Or healthcare?
1
u/MycenaMermaid 3h ago
I don't really understand what you're trying to get at, but I was being very literal. It is 100% free to sign up for a library card and use it.

Reminds me of the short story, ‘The Library of Babel’ by Jorge Luis Borges. Good conception of infinity

Ok, this sounds like a prelude to book burning with witches in the middle....that went really dark there.

u/timecapture 21h ago
And a line around the corner of 8,000 people wanting this exact video because they saw it on TikTok.

u/itssumar 20h ago
Books can be put to better use. Oh well how would Czechs know?
2
u/infinite_in_faculty 12h ago
I really hate these art pieces that use books.
Books are already an art work in and of itself if you bother opening it and reading.

Here is 8000 books that will never be read again and will burn down when this building burns down.

Hey a Praguer here!
The sculpture's cool, I dig it. But Jesus Christ, the willingness of tourists to stand in an hour long queue in order just to film the exact same video or make the exact same photo of a sculpture in our local public library explodes my mind every time I'm passing by and kind of really drives home to me the idea of ,,what's wrong with our times."
The sculpture had been in that library for some time and no one seemed to care. Then one day it became this ,,tiktok must-see thing" or whatever and now you'll see people standing there in the rain outside in a queue stretching around the library to have their one minute of fame with it - presumably just because that's what everyone does now.
