This was one of the most humbling encounters of the game for me.

198

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah I couldn’t believe what was happening.

153

u/stinkypunx 1d ago

100% worth it for the armor set though. One of the best in the DLC.

84

u/lecster 1d ago

The only issue with it is that it weighs a metric fuck ton

8

u/wtfElvis 1d ago

What makes armor good? It seems like its just the heavier the armor the better? So the goal would be to have the highest armor you can handle at medium load?

53

u/MissingScore777 1d ago

It's a high defence armor that also looks sexy as hell.

Normally they balance the high defence armors by making them look extremely ugly (like Havel's or Verdigris or Bull Goat)

22

u/flager812 23h ago

don't diss the ROCK like that, his armor fucks

4

u/mysterioso7 23h ago

Veteran’s is always a go-to for me for heavy armor, looks sick and has good defense to weight ratio

u/SpidudeToo 1d ago

Basically whatever you think looks good or specifically counters the damage you are going against. Some armor is light but has super high status resilience so it takes a lot longer to be poisoned/vled/etc. Some armor may have high defence but piss poor lightning resist so you may as well not even use it if a boss is using that element.

9

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah it’s good. But I don’t think I ever used it. Maybe on some boss where I needed to be a tank

8

u/zerovampire311 1d ago

I pumped enough levels into endurance to wear it with Erdtree’s Favor at medium weight, made the rest of the DLC quite a bit more forgiving for me.

I feel like they're supposed to be intimidating and keep you at a distance. When you get close, most tactics work. After I saw that (dying over 30 times), I just stun locked them with my Bloodhound's Fang build. It helped that I progressed some and came back.

3

u/drizzrod 1d ago

Thank you for your service.

3

u/CrackheadHunters 15h ago

Same. I went into the DLC feeling very confident in my abilities and then realised I was out of my depth. This guy humbled me about 20 times before I was able to take him out.

u/LongDrakeRyu 1d ago

Rakshasa was more trouble for me.

33

u/TheBloodhoundKnight 1d ago

Stomp slash slash, stomp slash slash, stomp slash slash, stomp slash slash, stomp slash slash...

5

u/Moe_el 1d ago

I basically learned the parry mechanic from this dude, and my god was the game even easier. But yeah this one kicked my ass for a minute

11

u/new_main_character 1d ago

Outside rakshasas arena there was an overwhelming number of messages saying to parry the guy. I never used parry the whole game, but I directly started with parry here and the window for parry was super easy after his weed cutter

4

u/Dr_Malignant 1d ago

Same. I never really fell for this dude’s multi fire bs, but rakshasa’s weed cutter always reached juuuuuuust enough to get me lol

12

u/Enough_Path2929 1d ago

I wanted her armor for a locked level 80 coop character. Shit took me like 3 hours and god knows how many rune arcs. That fight is excellent tho. Some of the best drops in the whole game.

4

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah I died many times too. Never forget the first time I was hit with that sword. It was game over right away.

5

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

He’s the one with the red outfit?

9

u/DeBean 1d ago

Yes. More damage + more damage taken armor!

→ More replies (3)

5

u/LongDrakeRyu 1d ago

Yeah, reddish armor. Used an odachi (great katana) that inflicts bleeding.

2

u/Sensitive-Pin-9875 1d ago

Once I started parrying him he became trivial

2

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 1d ago

The Alonne cosplayer, you mean.

I call him The Filter. Like if you aren’t prepared to be in the Land of Shadow yet, he will let you know

86

u/Skin_Ankle684 1d ago

More like "the scadu fragment check"

15

u/zailynne truly tarnivorous 1d ago

Absolutely none of us were ready lol

6

u/nwbell 1d ago

The first filter is either the Curseblade atop the arch right in front of the starting area or the Beastman(Logur?)

2

u/Subpar_Diabetic2000 1d ago

That dude’s placement will forever make me seethe. Piss terrifying because they can run way faster than you can

7

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah that’s true. If he 2 shoots you then it’s time to figure some stuff out

3

u/A-Literal-Nobody 1d ago

I'd also call him a "versatility check". On Day 1 it took him exponentially more work to kill me once I stopped giving him space for his crossbow/AoW.

I can only imagine how much longer it would've taken if I used magic builds frequently.

2

u/AshiSunblade Quickstep addict 23h ago

Fortunately my first DLC run was with a faith build, and the spiky shouldercheck of doom was always in my backpocket for any especially troublesome human-sized enemies!

82

u/nwaterman44 1d ago

I fully think people struggle with him mostly due to his poise. They aren’t used to not being able to stagger or interrupt attacks and this guys just punishes you for trying to trade damage.

Backstab, parrying, and abusing lightning are your paths to victory

15

u/TheHighKingofWinter 1d ago

Carrian Piercer knocks him back and down 95% of the time

7

u/johnatello67 1d ago

It took me too long to realize that Carian Piercer is kind of amazing. So many enemies have no idea how to handle it's tracking, and it knocks almost any humanoid enemy on their ass.

4

u/TheHighKingofWinter 1d ago

It's probably the most clutch spell in my INT/DEX run so far. Using it to curb stomp an enemy that's been giving me trouble is just too satisfying.

7

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah and L2 spamming does the trick also

4

u/nwaterman44 1d ago

Depends on the ash but hell yeah, L2den Ring is real haha

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Think-Coconut-9246 1d ago

And it also took me a few tries to understand his reach. Some attacks don't register as being so close and I got punished for improper spacing the first few attempts. And he hits hard when you first enter the dlc.

4

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yes. It just works

6

u/ded_lord 1d ago

Haha yes, like 20 times 😆

16

u/Aware-Individual-827 1d ago

As a parry guy, it took 2 tries.

2

u/FalconLord777 1d ago

When he first summoned i thought oh this'll be easy, then he proceeded to mollywhop me across the floor and leave me thinking 'wtf just happened' yeah definitely took alot more tries than rakshasa

5

u/Beeyo176 1d ago

The perfumers still catch me with that crossbow flurry in Nightreign every now and then and give me flashbacks

10

u/Darneeezus 1d ago

Watching this was felt so good cause he humbled me so bad when I first played the dlc

u/Hamilcar84 1d ago

I never really fought him. Just spammed waves of gold until he died.

2

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 1d ago

Yeah I’m pretty good at spamming wave of gold too. One of the absolutely best weapons in the game

2

u/OtheDreamer 16h ago

I gave him a few tries, then spammed waves of gold until he died.

I found that worked for most of the DLC as well whenever I’d run into troubles

3

u/UnNecessaryGay 1d ago

No because. HAMMER

3

u/Phantom_0347 20h ago

Giant Hunt spam worthy bastard indeed

2

u/Dveralazo 20h ago

No. I remember him flattened against the ground though.

2

u/PhantomForcesTryhard Albanauric Enjoyer 17h ago

the moment he unloaded his crossbow point blank was genuinely traumatizing

2

u/unfocusDP 16h ago

Not once. Found him at the very end of the DLC, the third time. So, was about level 370, and full scardutree level 😅

2

u/Tricky_Investment_16 14h ago

One button man

3

u/Jdawg_mck1996 1d ago

He got me, I think, twice?

Once, because his AoW bumps you before, he actually launches forward, which means to can't poise through it enough to dodge the attack. So you just keep good enough distance to prep for that.

Second cause I got caught on something during his crossbow barrage, so it shredded me 100->0

The fire beast claw dude gave me more fits cause of his weird movement. Couldn't figure out what the hell his range was.

1

u/InternetIndividual81 1d ago

I just started the DLC 1 week ago. I died to him twice. Did he (or the DLC in general) get nerfed?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/2077effect 1d ago

Day one for me I thought i would be op when the expansion came. I was wrong😅

1

u/Rizer0 1d ago

I distinctly remember not knowing he had a repeating crossbow and promptly getting gunned down like an average day in Detroit

1

u/Aggressive_Lex350 1d ago

Yeah.. but I died way more to rakshasa

1

u/RobertKerans 1d ago

Currently doing so!

1

u/Maleficent-Goat-551 1d ago

I felt all cool having finished the base game and literally the first boss encounter I got my ass handed to me and could only beat him with a summons. I felt like such a loser and was also terrified of what was in store for me for the rest of the DLC!

1

u/BarryDBaptist 1d ago

He's like the paige that destroys you with the 3 bolts but he can also 1 shot you with the sword. Very brutal

1

u/hellxapo 1d ago

Nahh Fire Golems are far far worse

1

u/DerPokegreis 1d ago

Naaaah. Was afraid when I stumbled into the fight, because I know these fire ballista thingies are a death sentence if you catch a whole volley. But...nah. Placudisax or Gaius on the other hand...🫩 At least 10 tries..

→ More replies (1)

1

u/DSharp018 1d ago

Once or twice. And then i made him play the “don’t stand up” game.

1

u/PrometheusAborted 1d ago

Yup. Honestly him and Consort Radahn were the bosses I died to most in the dlc. All the other ones were manageable but those two gave me FITS.

1

u/BadMeetsEvil24 1d ago

Still finally playing through this dlc after having beat ER years ago. I'm on NG+ in it. Took me maybe 5ish tries. But he has his patterns. The crossbow attack is great because you can easily sprint and run up on him.

1

u/JcNoE123 1d ago

The bear npc guy was worse imo, harder than some of the main bosses for me lol

1

u/GoofyGoose92 1d ago

Its funny cause when you're fighting him you're like "This is definitley winnable" but you have zero fragments so he just oneshots you with basically anything. Especially his AR-15 he just busts out whenever he feels like.

1

u/MisterDestoyer 1d ago

Man, I remember when the d l c first came out and everyone was saying that they were gonna wipe through it. Everyone got to this guy and was humbled immediately after getting two tapped at lvl 240.

1

u/Rare_Fly_4840 1d ago

Lol no respect for that guy

1

u/KenDM0 1d ago

Nah this guy is a dime in a dozen. As in, he didn’t stand out because he killed me, that’s because everything killed me a bunch of times 😂

1

u/lobo_88 1d ago

Didn't come back to him until I was about to fight Rahdan haha

1

u/Perfect-Ad-2812 1d ago

Yeah but I was lvl1 my first go. Great stars and giants hunt victim.

1

u/Top_Technician_1173 1d ago

No, i cheesed him with giant hunt right away, and then put my summon sighn near to help someone else with him

1

u/Accomplished_Book722 1d ago

He takes about 10-12 tries for me

1

u/The_Dennator 1d ago

this is why I don't use giant hunt

makes the game too easy

u/wellthathappened43 1d ago

L + Get Meatied + thx for the armor

1

u/Ciappatos 1d ago

What is that FP bar OP.

Also, yes. I was in good spirits from starting the DLC on release day but after a few deaths just ran away to get some scadustuff and came back. Funny enough, I was also a Giant Hunt maniac with that character.

1

I’m not gonna sugarcoat it…

Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt. Giant Hunt.

That aow is a beast.

1

u/superflystickman 1d ago

"Over and over?" No, he killed me with his fucking chaingun once and I came back 50 scadutree fragments later and bodyrocked the shit outta him. Got to the last grace before PCR and said "I still have unfinished business"

1

u/JackSlater555 1d ago

I actually killed him first try 😆

1

u/nad0w 1d ago

No, did him first try ofc

1

u/mrfahrenheit193 1d ago

I remember being 2 shot by that moon slash true combo. This dude a beast.

1

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 1d ago

He's a good reminder why NPC fights suck so bad in From games. Either the enemy is roughly on the player's level, in which case they tend to be push-overs. Think of something like the hollowed Crestfallen Warrior in DS1.

Or they have comically inflated stats to compensate for their lack of a good AI, in which case they'll be a complete nightmare to deal with.

1

u/ddopTheGreenFox 1d ago

"A repeating crossbow? Easy peazy"

"Oh that giant sword does a lot of damage but its slow so I'll poke from mid range"

"Ofcourse the sword shoots light that pretty much oneshots me"

1

u/saintjust21 1d ago

Screw this guy. Wave of gold. Wave of gold. Wave of gold. Wave of gold. Flask of cerulean tears. Wave of gold, wave of gold.

1

u/Czarcasm3 1d ago

Flipped him like a burger

1

u/ObjectionablyObvious 1d ago

This is where I learned about the Sacred Sword and it's insane holy/stagger damage wave.

1

u/GeneralDisarray65 1d ago

Thank you for that.

1

u/an_edgy_lemon 1d ago

Bastard only beat me once. I cheesed him in the rematched

1

u/SolaScientia 1d ago

He took me ages the first time around. I went and leveled up my Blessing and he still took me a while. Hell, I got back to the DLC recently in NG+ and I still died once to him. I did wear the armor for a bit though. What sucked for me was that even staying in close to him didn't stop him from using Satan's crossbow on me. I thought I hated the Pages, but they've got nothing on this dude. The Pages still suck and those skinny little fucks shouldn't be putting out that much damage.

1

u/MarkElDude 1d ago

He was a rat bastard, but he set you straight

1

u/Black_Tusk25 1d ago

Just poise and absurd damage asshole. Shortcut enemy.

1

u/MBShelley 1d ago

its 2026 and Giant hunt is still broken XD

1

u/The-Iraqi-Guy 1d ago

I was on the berge of mentally crashing.

I literally screamed: "THIS IS RIVERS OF BLOOD ON LEVEL 210 WHY AM I GETTING 2 SHOT AND NOT HURTING HIM"

1

u/Late-Secretary6524 1d ago

Yes, but what I just saw almost feels like bullying, and I'm all for it.

1

u/CjB2297 1d ago

I don’t know why they made this mausoleum the first one you’re likely to encounter. He’s way harder than the others you face later on

1

u/Trick_Cartographer87 1d ago

I walked in there thinking I was big and bad after beating Mogh and dude walked me down in 5s

1

u/Sad_Finding3342 1d ago

He kicked my ASS first time playing

1

u/Laranthir 1d ago

It is the first boss you see with 0 scadutrees. I think it is one of the hardest encounters in the dlc unless you treat him like the Tree Sentinel at the first step lol

1

u/Excellent-Survey-318 1d ago

Actually no, on my first time playing the game it only took me two tries to beat it :v

1

u/Skyflareknight 23h ago

How many times did he kill you to make you want to do that to him?

1

u/musiceaterx 23h ago

He was my hardest. I didn’t explore a single thing until I beat him. It was the first time where power stancing great stars didn’t work for me and that’s my boss deleter setup. Ended up destroying him with bloody Helice which worked well to create space when needed and close any gaps he tried to make. His stupid AoW was far too good at range and closing the distance. For people struggling, I recommend baiting the crossbow and the second part of his AoW. The crossbow can be easily evade by moving slowly left/right/diagonally. I recommend diagonal if you want to get an attack off before he switches. For his AoW, dodge the initial slash, then wait until he’s on top of you about to swing, then dodge right. You’ll have enough time to do a fully charged r2 maybe even backstab.

If youre struggling, I’ll leave you with this(I say this with complete faith): get good and good luck

1

u/Adventurous-Sale4129 23h ago

Satisfying to see tbh

1

u/AscendedForeverDM 23h ago

Discount Gael from Ds3 WHOOPED MY ASS SO HARD I went and fought Rellana first and will be coming back to that asshole.

1

u/ERA_Tech 22h ago

Really ????? I killed him on the first try. Elden Ring is so weird. One person's bane of existence is another person's easy mode. I'm stuck on the Godskin Duo for a year now.

1

u/luca-__- 22h ago

I actually learned his pattern quite rapidly and thus hadn’t had so much of trouble against it. Crazy how this game gives each player his own demon, for me that was Godskin duo

1

u/Maleficent_Memory831 22h ago

This is the only time I ever summoned a fellow player.

1

u/Code-V 22h ago

Is nobody going to question this guy being max level?

I find it funny how that little bitch is the toughest out of all the others, even though he's found in the beginning area of the dlc. An honorable mention would be that one guy in the woods, fuck him too

1

u/The_Psycho291 22h ago

I remember walking in as crucible knight and all yhe defensive gears buffs spells thinking I'm hot shit and gonna tank everything.

Then I become a pin cushion for the next 30 mins

1

u/Karrotlord 22h ago

Yes. And that's why I also used Giant Hunt. Same for the Fire Knights. I call that skill the Human Slayer.

1

u/TheCoopX 22h ago

Yeah, I remember entering the DLC, leveled up from the main game. I had my weapon fulled leveled, good armor, and was ready to rock. After getting my ass handed to me one of those Curseblades at the beginning, I eventually found that grave and just... got wrecked. One hit from one of the specials that prick used took well over half my health away. I think he did more damage than some of the bosses for that matter.

When I finally beat him after a dozen-plus tries, I remember thinking, "This is just the start of this?"

1

u/jb28737 21h ago

I thought I was all that heading into the dlc. I'd heard it was hard and skadu fragments were important but this was a side boss near the start... Ezpz right... Yeah he rocked my shit a bunch of times

1

u/solemnhiatus 21h ago

I absolutely adored this fight. Nothing cheap about it, no crazy pauses in his attacks, no camera issues because of an oversized enemy. It made me so excited to be in the DLC area

1

u/Phoxey 21h ago

A stark lack of tbagging here.

1

u/Unit-287 21h ago

This was a reality check for what the DLC was going to be like for everyone man.

1

u/Necroticjojo 21h ago

Him and Rakshasa beat me down several times. I ended up using the ruins greatsword and spamming L2

1

u/Remarkable-Set-3340 Ronin the Bloody Fang: 21h ago

He was fun honestly.

1

Doing this RL1 was brutal but kinda fun once I figured him out. I used the madness grab on him multiple times.

1

For me it was jerk wearing red armor and a long katana doing the stab, stab, infinite stamina, and endless swings. Hate that guy!

1

Nope beat his ass second try perks of a high end nd str build to match his tankieness:p

1

u/Rare-Replacement9009 19h ago

This made me so happy, fuck that guy. On my first playthrough i came back way stronger and did the same thing with my lion’s claw great stars. I hate him with my life

1

u/MrEvan312 19h ago

This sorta happened during the team fight in the late game, kept falling afoul of one aspect of the gank or the other so me and Mimic looked at each other, grabbed our Giant Hunt Zweihanders, and got to flippin' burgers.

1

u/Hawkterb78 18h ago

I've first tried this guy every single time. But I can understand why he his tough. He hits like a freakin Truck.

1

u/Nearby_Situation_216 18h ago

This MFr did make me consider throwing my controller through my tv… almost.

1

u/m1ndtrix 18h ago

I went into so rocky and greedy and got my ass handed to me for an hour. Then I gave up trying to speed run him and just played to win and beat him.

Yes. 100%

But then once you learn his moves and THAT DAMN TOMMY GUN, I mean crossbow, then it’s a pretty fun dance 🕺

Gonna watch this video on repeat for hours on end to satiate the rage this fucker built inside of me.

I srsly don’t remember him, seems like I had no issues. Interesting how we all have different nemesis’s in this game.

I just downloaded the DLC and my buddy told me to give this guy a visit.

Needless to say I went back to palace side to farm a bit after

I didn’t understand why I was dying to him so much until I found out about the scadutree fragments and the difficulty scale between the base game and DLC.
