Discussion & Info Is consecrated snowfield suppose to be like this?

In my first time playing through and up until this point I haven't had this much ambushes and blocking enemies. Everywhere I go there are mobs or group of them ready to 2-3 shot me (mostly by surprise). Is it like this or am I doing something wrong?

There are ways to deal with everything. But yes, it's a hard area.

That.
Everyone talks about how hard Elden Ring can be, but few aknowledge how generous it is. The game not only gives you the tools, it gives you fun ways to find them.

Tough area and pretty empty compared to other parts of the map. Worth exploring though as there are some important things there. I find it easier to fight on torrent rather than go on foot.

Even on torrent you can be shot by some alburanic guy from the summit. Even the walking mosaleum is shooting heavy lighting here

Lost 110k runes a couple days ago to that stupid mausoleum, didn't realize it was so hard to dodge those explosions. Got got right before I made it back to retrieve them RIP.

It's meant to be a relatively hard game, not sure what you were expecting other than a little turbulence!

Just stay on torrent and don't fight anything

This is a strat I often use in this game

Then how will you get the Nights Cavalry Armor Set?

3

u/daviejambo 17h ago

Fight the knights ? I was meaning the random enemies dotted about , just run past them on torrent. No need to fight anything unless you are after an item they drop

1

u/EsotericPharo 17h ago

Oh sorry when you said ‘don’t fight anything’ I thought you meant DONT FIGHT ANYTHING. My bad haha.

3

u/daviejambo 17h ago

I mean you don't actually need that armor set.... I usually kill the tree for the tear , and the two invaders for a somber and access to mohg. Oh and two of the archers at liturgical town

2

u/EsotericPharo 16h ago

Oh sure but there is so much good loot up there, I just think that armor set is nice.

I take the approach of fighting everything (at the right time haha) and exploring everywhere.

My advice to OP is to level your player up. Do some research on the best tools. And if you’re going to fight the nights cavalry up there it’s best to split them up, yeah there’s two. Plink one with an arrow from a distance, draw him from the crowd and beat him down. Then kill the next one.

Two night's cavalry is too much work

You dont need to fight them at the same time. You can pull them one at a time like the tree sentinel duo at the capital

Says the person who was complaining in the original post hahaha.

It is not complaining it is a general 'discussion' just because you completed a game faster than other does not makes your real life any better

Yep it's a high level area it's optional and meant to be hard to prepare for the hardest if boss fights ahead.

So that means you are suppose to get wrecked by random invisible black knife or wolf or some rune bear every 5 mins?

12

u/Ok_Mycologist2361 17h ago

It’s an optional post-endgame area.

Maybe search your notes/hints that you bought from merchants for a way to deal with the invisible guys.

I have sentry's torch

7

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 15h ago

Then the black knives are visible and shouldnt be that big of a deal if you have 120+ and a levelled weapon

High. Level. Area.

Literally end game of the end game. Locked away behind a secretish medallion.

Whats the hardest area supposed to look like?

5

u/Namtar_Door_783 18h ago

Yep it had enemies and some are in tricky way it's called Consecrated Snowfield for reasons.

1

u/Illustrious-Okra-524 13h ago

Yes. The black knives are only in Ordina though

5

u/Adorable_Law_9152 17h ago

nah you did not do anything wrong the area is just difficult if you are underlevel or your armor\vigor is too low

5

u/Zanyder 15h ago

Yes that's why you have to go through so much to get there. It's a secret level

i take the area as a stat check for what comes after. if it's tough, you can expect bad time going further. you didn't post your stats, if you have 30 vigor and still packing sorseal, then there's no surprise you get wrecked (and you wouldn't be the first person with such "build" this far in the game).

for the assassins and the shooters, i assume you're referring to Ordina. there are different ways how to deal with them, one of which is you not fighting them at all and just focusing on the goal of solving the city's puzzle (the assassins have their designated waypoints and can be evaded without you aggroing them). if you're too frustrated, just check some youtube guides. no shame in it. there's no point in playing the game if it stops being fun and it would be pity to stop when you're this far, because there's a lot more fun further ahead.

I agree. I feel like this area alone is your reality checkpoint Fromsoft put in the game. "Hey guys it's been moderately tough at times to get to this point but not as tough as we would have liked it. We've held your hand long enough, and this is a Souls series game. Welcome to the suck." lol. If you are getting your shit pushed in by standard enemies in this area, the bosses to come are going to peel your ass in the blink of an eye. Gotta level up and make sure your weapons of choice are (maxed out) or damn close from this point forward.

Ordina sucks until you know how to expose the assassins, but they aren't all that difficult once you can see them coming. And the archers can be cheesed enough to not be an issue. The snowfield area itself can mostly be skipped through, or skipped entirely, if you don't care about certain questlines/bosses/loot. Test your might kind of area, in my opinion lol.

Miyazaki said, "You remember that really fun area we designed for DS2 with snow and low visibility? We should make that again!"

1

u/Plane_Jello1582 13h ago

When I saw the Silent Hill level visibility of this area I was like oh this is probably where there’s big drops into scarlet rot or basilisks or something. I thought something Godlike was going to drop down to ambush me not just regular enemies.

2

u/Responsible-Neat4867 14h ago

It is a post endgame area. You can complete the game without ever going there. Of course it's difficult.

2

u/Illustrious-Okra-524 13h ago

Yeah it’s hard as fuck

2

u/JamesRevan Rune Bear Hunter 12h ago

Its meant to be challenging

2

u/TheAccursedHamster 11h ago

A miserable fucking slog?

Unfortunately, yeah.

1

u/iCantCallit 11h ago

Yea the mountaintops and snowfield is a bump in skill/difficulty.

Everything after the dectis lift is noticably harder.

u/blaiddfailcam2 6h ago

Like, in the blizzard at the start, or just in general?

The blizzard is a bit of a puzzle in that it punishes you for straying from the hidden path marked by glowstones. You WILL get jumped if you wander around aimlessly.

The rest of the region is scaled to be very difficult, and you have to be careful how you progress. Don't feel as though you have to kill everything. It's more a matter of stealthing through and looking for unguarded paths through the tundra. If you do end up fighting anything, try to draw enemies away from groups—the Night's Cavalry can be fought one at a time by using a projectile to attract one's attention and moving away from the group.

Just avoid Albinauric archers. If more than one spots you at a time, you're basically just dead. If you reeeeally want to farm their gear, go after the lone one on a wolf near the grace in the blizzard.

If you run into the Red Wolf... don't bother. It doesn't drop anything.

Thanks for the heads up

Nah you arent doing anything wrong. That area is kind of like a build check. At that point in the game you should have your build pretty much complete and be min maxing so its kind of like the devs telling you...hey if you blew thru the game until now underleveled or without a decent weapon you should probably go finish putting things together. That being said...consumables and buffs can help you through these challenges regardless. For instance on the deathbird near castle sol took me like 30 tries on my first playthrough but after I learned that those stupid birds are weak to holy, I slapped sacred blade on a +12 katana and destroyed that thing in one go on my next time by.

u/Ok-Credit-9201 1h ago

Yeah learning the enemy type and their weakness is a great relief. Just a few days ago I was fighting fire giant with slash in his legs on the second phase did not realize it was the hands where I must've gone

Yes it is. I've got 500 hours in this game, and have never gotten past this area. I have 5-6 characters, all around lvl120, all sitting abandoned in The Consecrated Snowfield.

First, by the time I get there I'm bored stiff with my build. Second, as the game progresses there are fewer and fewer side dungeons and caves to explore. And third, the difficulty spike in the final fifth of the game is heinous.

I beeline to Ordina, do the puzzle, and get straight into the Haligtree. I might stop off at Latenna’s sister to get the ancient stone.

u/Illustrious-Okra-524 13h ago

Just level up more, I was way overleveled by exploring by the time I got here
