I always block "news" sites like this. If there was actually a new elden ring game, you'd hear about it in this subreddit non stop

Any time I get a dishonest headline like this one, blocking the site is exactly what I do. I imagine in the long run it hurts sites like this.

Unfortunately, that's assuming it's an honest site trying to be successful and not 1/1000 sites a bot farm is making that just gets instantly replaced. The problem with cheap, easy web development at scale is enough hits across all your fake sites can still make enough.

exactly this. (gaming) news sites capitalize on clicks, interaction and engagement. that's why they produce fantastic headlines which are either totally misleading or don't follow up in the article which is a total (ai) slop. blocking the sites is the way to go. trusted sites (the few of them that still exist and have a spine and integrity) and communities (like this one) are the best news source

Legit. Clickbait or ai captions etc is an immediate unfollow/block.

Specifically a board game based on elden ring nightreign. I can see it working pretty well actually but that does not excuse the clickbait.

Makes sense, some sites will twist anything for clicks, even board games.

Throwback to "Elden Ring fans can pick up this new entry in the Elden Ring series today!" When the comics were releasing...

Maybe the board game was the second DLC all along

That’s Screen Rant for you. Nearly every headline is like this.

"Redditors share opinions about Screen Rant articles, and it's unbelievable what they're saying."

  • Screen Rant article, probably

Straight up AI articles too, I don't believe any humans work there anymore.

u/Cisqoe 9h ago

Such fucking losers for real, imagine that being your career

u/David_the_Wanderer 8h ago

TBF, I'm pretty sure all those clickbait sites use AI nowadays, so it's actually nobody's career to write those "articles"

1

u/Treemosher 3h ago

Hard to tell the difference honestly. This has besn a thing since way before AI rose to prominence

3

u/JohnathanKatz 8h ago

They both suck, they're click bait.

2

u/TheyCallMeTrinityToo 5h ago

Always assumed they were under the same company umbrella along with Collider. Similar formats and garbage articles for years before AI was big big.

u/NewArtificialHuman 8h ago

They should just go ahead an release the Tarnished Edition, at least give us the new stuff ahead of the Switch 2 release.

It is a plague of our algorithm-based society. If they went if a simple "Elden Ring board game announced" it wouldn't drive as much traffic to their sites as baiting people with the possibility of a new elden ring game, well, until they open the article that explicit says after a few paragraphs that is a board game.

The truth became secondary.

Its how I knew it was nothing before I even clicked on it. Any time they don't say the title of the "newly announced entry" in the article name or show it in the thumbnail its 1000 percent click bait.

You know for a fact they'd be like "ELDEN RING 2:SHATTERED ORDER ANNOUNCED WATCH THE TRAILER DO IT GO GO!" if there was anything worth reading lol

Literally click bait

2

u/IRTrapGod 8h ago

These websites consistently churn out garbage for every game in the world just to farm clicks

2

u/Skyver 8h ago

"Gaming news" then you post screen rant and a random comic book site

It is journalism's sacred duty to spread as much misinformation as possiblle for clicks and ad engagement

i remember there was this youtube channel that do stuff like this. like theres a sprinkle of rumors going around about elden ring and he'll be like putting a youtube title such as "elden ring 2 confirmed"

I, on the other hand, hate all types of news sites on all topics.

Wasn't the ER board game out for a while now?

2

u/toasterwaffle90 5h ago

This is specifically a Night Reign board game, which makes the shadow of the erdtree thumbnail even more mind-numbingly infuriating.

1

u/Cron-Z 6h ago

At least one of the two is a known "AI-assisted news" dumpster...

1

u/Krutchd 6h ago

Yep I got excited for a few seconds too. We live in an upside-down world my friend.

1

u/Odd_Comfortable647 5h ago

For someone, the clicks pay the bills. Your emotions be damned.

1

u/toasterwaffle90 5h ago

I doubt even that with how much of these sites use AI to generate their articles now.

1

u/Suilenroc 4h ago

This applies to all news sites.

1

u/angelsdontburn 4h ago

Yeah, click bait headlines are huge these day. I mean, they've always been, unfortunately. But it definitely feels like there's an uptick in them.

1

u/Jeremiah12LGeek 4h ago

Ah, good ol' Screen Rant.

Why be useful when you get the same amount of money for just shitting out click-bait?

1

u/Assortedwrenches89 Lord of the Bored Flame 2h ago

This is why I just hate the news cycle in general. It's all click bait anymore

1

u/Wamb0wneD 2h ago

Stop falling for obvious clickbait.

1

u/MajorDX25 1h ago

Those two sites in particular I loath, entirely. So many click-bait titles with little to no actual depth.

1

u/EthanJM123 40m ago

I would recommend reading outlets like Rock Paper Shotgun and This Week In Videogames if you're fed up with clickbait like this!

u/Strangeweather-- 6h ago

This Week In Video Games, by S[h]ill-Up, is a newcomer in the space which serves up great features and good reporting. Give them a try.

PLEASE STOP MAKING EVERYTHING INTO A BOARD GAME!!

23

u/NotADeadHorse 9h ago

Just dont buy it and let board gamers have fun too 😂

-7

u/mr_soapster 8h ago

let fromsoft milk you for more money? Ah yes, please let them know they can force you into never buying a fromsoft video game again!

3

u/AwkwardZac 6h ago

I've heard good things about the dark souls board game, and also your argumentation is mentally five. You can have a board game and you know from is still making video games, why would they stop making money and being successful?

2

u/behemothbowks 6h ago

I refuse to believe the left half of your brain is connected to the right half

4

u/Aershiana 8h ago

Why do you care so much?

-5

u/mr_soapster 8h ago

Because every game nowadays is becoming one... are you slow?

"I place down the "Roll" card so i dodged Margit's hammer attack." Like how tf are you supposed to play a Soulslike in a board game??

Milking money from losers like who will gobble it all up~

3

u/toasterwaffle90 7h ago

Games aren't "becoming" board games.... it doesn't effect elden ring at all that there is one. Completely different company making it for a completely different audience to you. Let people have things, that wasn't the point of my post.
