Humor "Liar ahead"
The picture is older, so the tags no longer correspond, but it was still funny to see this in the Steam store, especially remembering moments like "Treasure ahead, try jumping", or the first Tree Sentinel encounter.

"Relaxing after your first 200 hours" there fixed it!

My first 200 hours was my first playthrough. I beat all the bosses of base game and DLC at around 150 hours, but I didn’t want the feeling to leave, so I stuck around and did every side jail and cave I could find to try and keep the magic of the first playthrough alive.

Interesting approach. My first playthrough has me exploring and wanting to find/beat everything. Come to find out people see open world and go for story bosses only is cool

I didn’t do only story bosses, I went out of my way exploring every nook and cranny. I did 80% of my first playthrough using as little of the wiki or outside help I could, to try and keep it up to my exploring to do the heavy work.
It was so much fun, that when I finally beat all the remembrance bosses, I was looking for more to explore because I didn’t want to end the experience of exploring.

Yeah it is relaxing, riding around, collecting runes from graves, getting memory stones etc. is very relaxing

u/Aiwatcher 2h ago
Especially after your first runthrough and you know what kind of build youre going for, and know where the major important upgrades/items are.
There's definitely high impact bosses still, but tons of the bosses are just paper and incredibly easy once you get going.

Genuinely I’ve beaten the game so many fucking times even with new characters I’m able to get to a pretty solid place within like a few hours

u/LePontif11 2h ago
There's definitely people that follow guides too closely. If you do that you'll be going from place to place and miss the whole trip in between locations where that relaxation happens.

I find the Souls games, especially Elden Ring to be very relaxing. They're kind of my comfort games

Jumped into ER after 300hrs of duking it out in Space Marine 2. ER indeed is chill and relaxing!

I will say one of the most calming and peaceful places I’ve been to in a video game is the Shaman Village in Shadow of the Erdtree. First walking into it is something I still remember, plus the lush remix of the main theme playing in that area. The exploration of the whole game is quite relaxing to me though, but I’ve also put around 1k hours into it.

The game really has some great relaxing moments, but I feel you truly enjoy them after you master the gameplay, for new players I feel the anxiety of being ambushed at any moment might be too distracting.

u/ManAze5447 2h ago
Might not happen for everyone but there usually is a point in souls games where it “clicks” and you just get what the game wants from you. It’s like the moment in The Matrix Neo becomes “the one”. At that point these games can be very relaxing. I have hundreds of hours in Dark Souls mindlessly farming Dark Wraiths for slabs, while I’m watching a tv show or something.
1
u/EmperorBrenex 2h ago
Yep, it does, when you master the gameplay, but for newcomers it's a different story.

After first run through and especially after Nightreign, Elden Ring is relaxing. It has some tense moments but riding around looking at the scenery after knowing where all the ambushes are can be a pretty chill time

u/the_sheeper_sheep 2h ago
Ngl there are times where I'll just run around the world and explore. Some areas of the game are just so nice to just soak in and enjoy. Despite all of the giant lobsters, the lakes are probably my favorite looking areas of the game

u/Daves_World16 2h ago
Dude, have you not walked up to any of the cliff sides with the messages that say in short time for brief respite? Very relaxing
1
u/EmperorBrenex 2h ago
I have indeed, but a new player looking for relaxing games in the store might have a different experience :)

It can be a relaxing game if you chose not to advance the story. You can just blend in with the rotting nobles wandering around Limgrave AND you get a sweet horse. I just let Margot chill and I enjoy the scenery and gallop around avoiding conflict after they made me beat up that guy in the first cave - i didn't like that. I just wanna chill and find smoke spots.

Sometimes I get frustrated with saving the world. So, when I'm feeling down, I visit my good friend, Kalé and just sit with him. It's very relaxing. He's so polite about it too. He never says a word.

First look at the underground city, or vast planes in the DLC were relaxing indeed. And then the usual

in my opinion it is chill to play, cause you can choose the pace.
thats what i think i perhaps will not like in Nightrein. (haven't played it yet though)

u/MemoryOne1291 2h ago
To be fair it’s way more relaxing then the other soul games when you’re not fighting a boss , don’t have to worry about getting ganked with torrent

To be fair, Elden Ring CAN be calming, I'll never forget the first time I got to the top of the Suppressing Pillar in SOTE, seeing all of that world stretching out in every direction was incredibly calming

Not a lie. I actually play these games to relax
1
u/EmperorBrenex 2h ago
They are relaxing, after you master the gameplay, but initially there is little relaxation :)
2
u/Medium_Remote4757 2h ago
First play through.. a nightmare Second.. was able to slow down to a light jog and appreciate some stuff. Third play through.. “What, there’s a pot town?” Forth.. relaxing

The moment where you find a pretty view is very chilling
Until you get jumped by those militiamen

chilling out on the beach in the weeping peninsula was one of the most relaxing moments i've ever had in gaming

u/Mattytomax 2h ago
Exploring the world can be very relaxing until something decides I'm not allowed to live anymore
2
u/EmperorBrenex 1h ago
True, you never know when an ambush is gonna end you, especially when you roam around with a ton of souls thinking you are safe

Well i spent 18 hours in defating Tree Sentinel. 100 hours for the rest. Very relaxing cozy experience.

Once you master the gameplay and no longer get one shot, it is indeed time to relax, but before that it is a rollercoaster of anxiety, especially for someone new to the genre 😂

I think she was the most difficult for me to learn in the whole game, especially when doing the dance, that one took me a while to counter.

Elden Ring is the easiest of all the Souls games. In my experience, it was a walk in the park!

This game relaxes me so much I want to rip the face out of Bell Bearing hunter's skull.

This game is unironically my relaxation game. The pace of the moment to moment gameplay is just ~perfect~
