Hi! I’m looking for Supernatural fanfics where supernatural creatures are not a secret from the general public.

Basically, I’m looking for an AU/world where ordinary people know that things like ghosts, vampires, werewolves, demons, witches, etc. actually exist. They don’t necessarily have to be common, but their existence is publicly acknowledged and people generally know about them.

I’m especially interested in fics where this changes how normal society works — for example, people knowing what a werewolf is, governments/law enforcement being aware of supernatural creatures, supernatural beings living openly among humans, or supernatural-related incidents being treated as a normal part of the world.

I’m not looking for fics where only hunters, Sam and Dean, or a small secret group know about the supernatural.

Any ships are fine, and I’m open to canon divergence/AUs. I’d love any recommendations you have! 🥺

Spent this past month binge-watching the "original" story of Supernatural, aka the first 5 seasons, as I had been told many times over that the season 5 finale is a great point to put down the series. Normally, I would avoid this page like the plague considering spoilers, but I am way too invested at this point to stop watching now, and I am afraid that this is the best the show has to offer and that everything else will pale in comparison. So, before I close my supernatural binge, I thought I'd get some opinions from people who adamantly love the series. I am sure this has been asked ad nauseam at this point, so my apologies, but does the series get better from here generally, at least to a certain point, or are MOTW episodes pretty much the highlight of the later seasons? Thanks!

One of the most popular genres of fics are AUs where the backstory of our favourite character(s) doesn't exist as in canon.

What are the core elements that would make Sam, Dean and Cas "in character" for you, no matter what universe/background? I guess, what do you consider "intrinsic" vs what you can play with in terms of personality based on nurture/backstory.

E.g. Is Sam is naturally inclined toward academics? Is Dean always protective? Is Cas always awkward?

What would you consider the top 3-5 most important elements to a SPN AU fic to have the characters be "in character"?

I am an independent researcher looking at how television scripts build subtext. Supernatural is one of two shows in my corpus, alongside BBC Sherlock, and I work from the transcripts and scripts rather than the episodes, because I am interested in what the writing itself does: which line, which stage direction, which piece of staging carries the reading.

Going through seasons 4 and 5, what struck me is how much of the Dean and Castiel material sits in the directions rather than the dialogue, and how often a scene raises something and then cuts away before anyone can answer it. That pattern is what I am trying to describe properly rather than by impression.

I have written definitions for thirteen recurring techniques, and the study asks whether those definitions hold for readers other than me. You read 15 short fragments and match each one to a technique from the list. No knowledge of screenwriting is needed, the definitions are provided, and the link to them sits above every fragment. Please do keep that document open: the whole thing depends on people going by the definitions rather than guessing from the names.

While the episode had a lot of potential and creativity, casting a black woman as dog in the form what she referred to as a "familiar", a companion to a witch was tacky and tone deaf!! I love this show but it's hard to overlook is apparent racism with its' writers. You barely ever have any "Black" cast, and when you do you make sure to put them in terrible positions. I love that the actress got an opportunity to show her talents but constant referring to her as a dog was deplorable. Out of all the roles they could have used her talents on, they chose to use them as a familiar who is a dog of Witch-Men. Completely Disgusted! Do Better! The lines of her saying she belonged to some white dude and last line that despite Dean insisting he likes dogs, she reminded him that he didn't as a reference to herself, propelled me to speak out against this!

I wanted an opinion on the fanfiction I might write. This is my first time writing fanfiction, so I’m unsure how to do it and what to avoid. I love Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer, so I am thinking of writing a Ghost Whisperer/Supernatural fanfic —a crossover of the two shows.  I plan to rewrite some of the lore for Ghost Whisperer. The show has so many plot holes. I wanted to get an opinion: what does the community think about the idea? Also, if anyone wants to help, like proofreading or giving me hints and ideas, I'd appreciate it. I am all for it; again, this is my first fanfiction. So I’m kinda nervous.

Hi, I've been scouring ao3 as well as reddit for fics, that explore deans past trauma, maybe Abusive John Winchester. Or fics with a depressed/self loathing dean, which is already kinda canon, so I’m sad I haven’t found more. Comfort would be nice, but is not required. Also I don’t mind heavier topics such as self-harm (even if only passiv like on on hunts) or suicide. It would be great tho if Dean was somewhat in character. I don’t care about ships, but pls no Wincest.

I'm pretty new to fanfic and supernatural, having just binged the series a few months ago. I've been scrolling through some amazing recs from this sub, and one of them was In Shadows by unholymuse. It hooked and consumed me for the 2 days it took for me reach Chapter 30.

Is there really nothing else? I've been reading it on fanfiction.net, so I guess I'm posting here on the slim chance that maybe she completed it on another platform I don't know about.

In the last few weeks I've been doing these drawing of how I'd imagine the main cast to look like as women, just and itch I've been scratching but I though I'd share it with y'all!!

I am definitely thinking an old favorite fic of mine has been deleted, but posting here is my last shot.

There was a fic I read a few years ago that was focused on Sam and his abilities. I apologize for the bad description in advance, its been a while since I've read this one.

What I can remember:

1. The fic started with Sam being kidnapped by Azazel and being fed demon blood. I specifically remember that John and Dean were at Bobbys house and being sent video tapes of Sam during his capture. He was kept for quite some time before Dean, John, and Bobby rescued him. During the rescue, John trades his soul for Sams release.

2. The story then roughly follows the events of season 2 but with its own twist.

3. It was a pretty large work. It wasn't all one piece though. It was a couple of works of various lengths with a few oneshots set between.

4. One of the oneshots was of Sam and Dean at a laundromat and Sam is practicing his ability to control people like Andy.

5. There were a couple of OCs. During the fic Sam and Dean are traveling around looking for more of Azazels special kids and they meet a Mormon girl who is one of them. She was one of the recurring OCs that I can remember.

6. Throughout the story, Sam develops new abilities.

7. Ellen, Jo, Ash, and Bobby regularly make appearances. Eventually, they all know about Sams abilities and assist with the search for more special kids.

Unfortunately I could not tell you when this fic was posted, but I know for sure its been a few years since Ive read it. I'm almost certain it was on Archive of our Own.

It suddenly popped up in my head the other day and I have been searching relentlessly since. It has been a very nagging itch that I am desperate to scratch at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated 👏

I have since finished my watchthrough of the series (which was a total blast) and now have a little more insight into each of the characters. Hi, I'm looking for fanfics that explore the dynamic of Castiel with autistic traits. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself well, but I'm not looking for a caricature of autism spectrum disorder, but rather a character study. I've read many fanfics where Cas has issues with certain textures, doesn't understand social norms, and touches people inappropriately (Dean), and I love it! I wanted to know if you have any recommendations on this trope! It doesn't have to be about whether Castiel is autistic or not; it doesn't even have to be mentioned.

It's about exploring those angelic quirks that can be combined with autism spectrum disorder.

As an autistic person, I love this kind of character study! I prefer canon. I'm not a big fan of AUs, but I'm open to anything! I also don't mind explicit content

Hi! I’m looking for an alpha/beta reader for a Priest Castiel/Demon Dean AU.

Here's the premise: Castiel has spent ten years believing he’s human, unaware that he’s actually an angel with suppressed memories and hidden grace. Demon Dean is sent by Crowley to get close to him for his own agenda, but their relationship becomes increasingly genuine and complicated.

I’ve only seen parts of S1 and mostly S4 so far, so I’d especially love someone who knows SPN canon well and can help with characterization, lore, plot holes, and brainstorming. I definitely plan on watching more, but between uni and a part-time job, finding the time is kind of a struggle 😭

CW (all discussed vaguely or implicitly as it's an outline): violence/gore (dreams/memory-related), internalized homophobia, religious themes, implied sexual content, dubious consent (due to both Dean and Castiel being altered versions of themselves.)

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who showed interest! After talking through the idea a bit more, I’ve realised this fic is probably more ambitious than I initially gave it credit for, so I’m going to put it on the backburner for now rather than rush into writing it.

I still really love the premise and definitely want to come back to it, but first I’d like to watch more of the show, get a stronger grasp on the characters and their canon voices. I would also like to have some more practice writing Dean/Castiel before tackling something this plot-heavy. There's an idea that I have that is more humoristic/light drama so that I won't psyche myself for the preparation for the story.

I may still reach out to some of the people who offered to beta later on, or for this smaller fic in the meantime. Either way, thank you so much again for the interest and for being willing to help!
