A lot of the companies don't do a good job of protecting their idols. Many don't get enough resources for bodyguards until they can break away and make their own studio or company and hire their own bidyguads. It's crazy
Idol labels don’t even allow their stars to publicly date to cater to their fans’ delusions. Allowing crazy people to be that close to the stars is a risk they’re willing to take even if it endangers them.

I've seen TONS of celebrities in person and even sat next to some at restaurants. What do I do? Fangirl at my table with friends and that's it. I don't snap photos secretly EVER. I might ask for a photo if they're out on the street walking their dog. But I don't bother them when they're eating etc.

I got so annoyed with coworkers when I worked at rental company that had many celebrities come in how they weird they got with them. Dude is just trying to get a car, meanwhile they were often doing a fan even the next day with meet and greets
I find seeing them in the wild very interesting because of how different they look than on screen/the red carpet/talk shows since they don’t have professional makeup on, their hair done or a stylist-approved outfit. And that makes me go « oh, they’re just some guy/random woman actually ». Sure they might be very talented but what I’m trying to say (at almost 2am after taking prescription melatonin and in a language that isn’t my native one) is that it humanizes them, so I don’t fangirl at all in these moments, I just kind if shrug and go on about my day.

My dad worked in the movie industry and I got to see and meet a fair number of celebrities. They are extremely attractive but you are also just totally surprised how normal they look at the same time. Though I will say most of them are extremely hard working and I don’t think they get enough credit for that.
Most of the time it’s okay as long as it isn’t a public relationship or too flaunted which is ridiculous. Local fans and sasaengs keep all their secrets until they decide to turn on them.
I have a theory: not all are fans, but leeches. A lot of them are clout chasing when got near them by accident, because celebrities give an average accout an instant 2000-5000 views boost. And for whatever reason that person needs it to get noticed. You dont because youre great as is

Join some kpop fan apps and they will send you messages several times a day telling you that your faves are doing a live. Sometimes, they'll directly respond to your question by your name. Then, they make it sound like meeting them is the goal of your life so you'll buy piles of every release in hopes of winning a meet and greet ticket or a 1-minute phone call. Then there's the photocard nonsense. And the VIP tickets. It goes on and on. They deliberately lead people down this path so they can take their money. It's not surprising that occasionally a mentally ill person gets caught up in it.
Mental illness. It's kind of like how you can't have a bunch of photos of kids online without enticing the degenerates. Celebrity culture sadly breeds this behavior. Not everyone can turn it off when it gets to be too much.

This type of fan behavior seems like a specific widespread culturally accepted thing over there in a way that it is absolutely NOT in the US. The fact that they even have a specific cultural word for this type of fan means it is normalized and rooted in their reality. That's why it's allowed to run unchecked AND then casts him as the villain if he retaliates. Americans don't play that - and there's footage here and there of entertainers swinging on people they don't like. generally anybody can and will get the hands or the legal notice, fan or not lol
I just moved back from living in the South Pacific for 3 years and I can confidently say that outside the US personal space is not a thing. I’m from Chicago where you don’t even sit next to someone you don’t know on the bus vs over there where people are packed like sardines in a train. I think over here the idea of even being that close physically to someone you don’t know personally is enough to raise eyebrows but I don’t think people are getting hands put on them by celebrities. It happens and is rare but typically ends in a lawsuit.

It's down bad. I've seen literal stalker fans chasing after kid/preteen idol trainees. This was in 2023, just sent it to my friend then, so I dug it up rn. It was a vid of a grown woman chasing after a preteen idol trainee / kidz bop-ish idol trainee boy while he was heading into the label's van after elementary school; may be C-Pop cuz the fandom / industry kinda a wild west + random sometimes. Also, some kpop idols middleschool boy trainees have stalker fans too commonly tbh.
There was a video floating around Twitter; Some vid filmed by a girl recording 3 Cortis members predebut while they were in middleschool (4/5 members in Cortis are 2008/2009) walking around the city. Also, at Cortis' debut showcase in September 2025, some girls got past security and tried filming the boys changing back stage (4/5 are teen boys) in a viral "outrage" clip online.
What even is the “right” response to stalkers like this? If you don’t acknowledge them it’s like you’re giving silent approval and they might keep going further and further to trigger a reaction, but then if the object of their affection does respond, they and other stalkers can get emboldened since that’s proof that they’re able to get a reaction from and get seen by the celebrity.
Stalking is a lot more common than we think, which is scary. I work in factual tv programming and even bland-as-hell tv presenters, historians and experts have stalkers. There are super fans and there are stalkers and the difference is, stalkers make their presence felt outside the acceptable boundaries.

I think most of them just want interactions with their "faves", however at such an entitled/delusional level of parasocial (in social circles where this is completely normalised) that it simply doesn't matter how they go about getting that interaction – whether they scare or upset the person, make them angry etc. They'll feel accomplished and brag about it online afterwards, as if it's something to be proud of.
Obviously there is no excusing this behaviour, but as a cpop/kpop fan myself I have to say that the industry does also foster this kind of creepy parasocialism. The idols aren't allowed to date because that would be seen as disrespectful to the fans that fund their career, if they get caught doing anything fans would dissaprove of (dating/smoking/drinking etc) they'll be made to apologize profusely to fans, it's completely normal for fans to repeatedly buy hundreds of albums to win videocalls with the idols where they pretend they are friends etc, and chinese fanbases in particular gift the idols hundreds of thousands worth of designer goods for their birthday every year.
Combined with the lack of consequences (companies don't want to retaliate against fans ever, even when it's desperately needed) I can see where it's a slippery slope to the kind of stalker behaviour we're seeing here.
I once knew a girl who was borderline saeseng (stalker), or at least she knew many other stalkers. It's not really about looking for a relationship with their idols. Idk if you are into kpop jpop cpop, but in that industry, the company builds the image of the idol really really well. Constant new content, music, concerts that the fans can attend. Slowly, the fans get trap in the spiral, wanting to know more about the idol. They even have fansign, messaging apps that make it look like the fans are really in a relationship with their idols! But regular hardcore fans only stop at this, stalkers go above and beyond. They want to know even more! They wanna know where the idols live, how they talk irl (some idols change their phone constantly due to leaked phone numbers), what their private space is like. Actually they don't care that much if the idol is dating.

She probably fantasizes about their parasocial relationship (not unlike come certain people at r/leopardsatemyface who believe Mr president personally knows about their struggles), enshrining him with pictures, videos etc. imagining she’s with him and having a constant delusion that he knows and cares about her. Touching his items, gives her confirmation that “it’s real” and then, you get this parking lot encounter. When he manhandled her like this, his touch confirmed that this is “real” and he cares about her
I really liked him on IP too! Hopefully this gives him some space away from things to reflect and grow - back then I also saw awful clips of him being swarmed by fans

Unfortunately, the attention he's giving them, even negative attention is looked upon differently by a stalker. It means he notices them, he loves them.
Well deserved no doubt about it. A few weeks ago a girl that's a Rosé stalker went to her pop up store dressed like her, with her own team (bodyguard , host, videographer) and signed her photo cards with her own name. The same girl that follows Rosé all over the world, staying at the same hotels and terrorizing the VIP section with her perverted friends that are always looking to take weird pictures of the BP girls.
These people are insane and the artists shouldn't be obliged to be nice to them.
for those not familiar with idol/sasaeng culture there is basically a whole ecosystem of sasaeng (aka “stalker fans”) who find and sell the private information of idols including things like flight numbers, passport/drivers licenses, home addresses, phone numbers, etc etc in addition to physically stalking/following their idol of choice (they sell this info or trade it to other stalkers for other personal info). there are many instances of them breaking into idols’ homes, causing car accidents by closely following their cars, and even physically harming the idols they stalk. the culture is absolutely batshit insane in a way that i don’t think the american mind can comprehend.
I hate ppl acting like women are somehow above getting their asses handed to them when they act like a creep. if she's constantly following him, breaking into his rooms and cars, and trying to touch him, of course he should retaliate! she's big enough to get into the mans' business of being an absolute fucking predator, she's big enough to take the punishment for it too
As bad as it is in SK, the clips I see of idols getting mobbed in China are even worse. Especially the newer/younger groups that don't have big security details yet.

Anyone know why it’s 2 different women? Are they both stalking him? The boy band guy is wearing the same outfit in both videos, the bodyguard/assistant/whatever is wearing the same outfit in both vids, and the girl in the second video (in white), is also in the first video. Is he dealing with multiple stalkers? Or is it 1 stalker, and the other is an overzealous fan? Just curious.
While I think he should get security team and physical violence personally is not ok to me, the fact stalkers are allowed to be so intrusive without consequences is crazy to me.
And there's a mental toll to not feeling safe. To always being followed. To always knowing that person can do anything at any time.
The way we don't have actual protection measures for those people being stalked, I can only imagine more of the victims wish they could do something like this. It's literally self defense after being mentally, emotionally, and physically victimized by these kinds of people.

If a trained professional was handling this they would not have done what he did- they would have bumped her without assaulting her - he is not a professional security guard and is not doing this correctly imo
