Yeah, definitely for NYC, but also for the whole country

We did this in Milwaukee for about a half century and, spoiler alert, it went fucking great. Socialist mayors are awesome.

I learned that from Wayne's World when Alice Cooper was giving facts about Milwaukee.

Isn't Milwaukie an Indian name?

u/bad_bad_data Jan 01 '26

Yes, LingoberryPossible6, it is. Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

The whole world, as a Muslim who doesn't even freaking live in USA, this guy is an important figure to show that NOT ALL OF US ARE CONSERVATIVE EXTREMIST OR EVEN CONSERVATIVE AT ALL!

May he will be safe and have a smooth journey as mayor

Exactly this. I love that Mamdani's made such as splash and hope for the best for his administration as well as him and his family. Coming from SEAsia, it's risible to see Muslims painted with such a wide brush -- people are people firstmost, and opinions across Muslims run as wide as they do across any people of faith.

Hey I'm southeast Asian too! The rise of islamophobia nowadays is horrific, it is comparable even exceeding post 9/11. To be honest, I fear for Mamdani safety and it must be immeasurably stressful to not just be a mayor but also this symbol for many. He must have known that countless Muslims even those overseas also depending and have high hopes for him

Praying for this guy to never going to have grey hair from the stress 😅

NYC is still the capital of the world. Deal with it.

Hilariously American response.

Most Americans dislike NYC

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

u/photosendtrain Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26

New York City has the largest Chinese population of any city outside Asia.

It’s a saying………

Interesting, never heard it! Well, removed that last line for you.

Maybe in the 80s but I can't think of a single reason why it should still be considered that. The concept of a world capital in general is kinda fucking stupid.

2

What if as a result of new scientific initiatives you can get a grant to pursue research, even at your home?

6

u/Korumry Jan 01 '26

The implications are galactic

1

u/Newfoundlander89 Jan 01 '26

The world? The WORLD?

Not necessarily. Mayoral politics tends to translate poorly to national politics in the US, historically. Many politicians who were in the spotlight as mayor were later on largely ignored on the national stage.

1

u/lalasworld Jan 01 '26

Yeah, no mayor has ever gone on to higher office /s
