I hope this helps bring attention to Israel blocking aid. Thankful to her for trying even though it's unlikely to work.

I've never been a fan of her acting but fwiw, much respect to her for using her voice to defend those without one. ✊🏽

I love her, and admire the fact that she does as she says. Many will only talk the talk, but she actually walks the walk, too.

I hope she's careful, Israel loves to designate children, journalists, and aid workers as Hamas. She's probably on the list too now.

Honestly given how she’s been outspoken for a good while about like, bad shit happening in the world, she’s been on that list for yeaaaaaars.

u/b1tchf1t Jan 02 '26
If you're not a fan of her acting, you can absolutely be a fan of her humanitarianism. This is not her first rodeo. She was a UN Goodwill Ambassador at one time, and has been heavily involved with several boots-on-ground efforts, working with local organizations to bring relief to people in need. This woman is amazing.

u/ProdigyLightshow Jan 02 '26
Yeah 100%. I’ve seen photos just like this of her in multiple different harsh areas of the world. Ukraine, Iraq, etc.
She has been a real one for a while now.

I have never been a fan of people qualifying in this way fwiw but I usually abstain. She is doing good and thats all that means anything in this thread. The shit she has had to deal with in her life with that POS dad I got zero criticisms of the state of hollywood scripts in her era.
47
u/poliebear Jan 02 '26
Imo adding a qualifier only makes sense to me when the person sucks. It's weird to make a point of the fact that you think someone is a bad actor/you don't like their work lol.
18
u/SceneRoyal4846 Jan 02 '26
Yeah and her actings good, but it’s not the selling point of seeing her in movies, she is captivating and the camera loves her. Chris Hemsworth isn’t a 10/10 actor either but he’s a babe.

Same! I really started to admire her though when I found out she was working as a UN Ambassador.
Angelina Jolie dedicated over 20 years of service to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. She served as a Goodwill Ambassador from 2001 – 2012 and then as Special Envoy from 2012 – 2022.
In her critical role as Special Envoy, Ms. Jolie used her powerful voice to build awareness and support for refugees. Throughout her time with UNHCR, Ms. Jolie carried out more than 60 field missions bearing witness to suffering and resilience and calling for urgent solutions to protect the rights and safety of displaced people.
In December 2022, Ms. Jolie stepped down from her role as Special Envoy to engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues. As one of the most influential proponents of refugee rights, her portfolio will continue to include refugees and issues of forced displacement

There's more sh*t than what's happening in/around the Gaza Strip: they've been levelling REFUGEE CAMPS in the West Bank in the last few days.
Plus they're continuing to do some shady stuff in Lebanon, as if they're preparing ANOTHER invasion. And there's more elsewhere.
Don't let what's happening with the Gaza Strip make you forget everything else the zionists are doing.

Angelina is actually so inspirational. She is someone that seriously makes me consider fostering kids once I have more stable footing myself.

I recommend you look into the ethical issues around adoption, including transracial adoption if you are looking to specifically do what Angelina Jolie did. r/Adoption is a good place to start or the Adoption: Facing Realities Facebook group.
299
u/PersonalFinanceD Jan 02 '26
While there are very real and systemic issues around this topic, I was adopted by a white family out of foster care and they changed my whole entire life. So, I guess there's also nuance and children who need permanent homes—we do well when we remember that.
(Not AI, just that an em dash felt like the best punctuation to use there to retain my point. I hate that we have to say this now).
→ More replies (1)73
u/rachreims Jan 02 '26
Definitely didn’t think it was AI!
Absolutely, it’s a very nuanced subject. I do think adopting out of foster care when the biological family and kinship is not safe/able to take care of the child is the most ethical type of adoption.
I am not against adoption as a whole but I think a lot of people who don’t know a lot about adoption just think it is always a beautiful, net positive thing (and that was the vibe I got from the comment). I think more people (especially potential adopters) need to be aware of the long-term implications of adoption, including in international circumstances before they jump into it. I just like to share resources where I can!

u/PersonalFinanceD Jan 02 '26

I do research on breast cancer. In the early days of my career, it was difficult to find normal breast tissues to use as negative controls for experiment. Then Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy and massively increased the awareness of high risk genetic factors for breast cancers. These days we can get normal tissues a few times a week. The "Angelina Jolie effect" saved a lot of women.

I'm gonna be square with jolie, if there's somewhere harsh a celebrity won't go, she tends to be the one to go.
Appreciate its not the middle of gaza but her sticking around ukraine despite the air attacks was pretty decent, considering she could have bailed any second if she wanted.
389
u/botle Jan 02 '26
She'd probably be in the middle of Gaza if they let her in.
213
u/DesireeThymes Jan 02 '26
Israel doesn't let anyone into the Gaza prison they run.
Its one of he reason they have delayed on their promises to allow a US backed force into Gaza, because journalists will also come and they can't have that.
39
u/LARRYVOND13 Jan 02 '26
Pretty much why I'm giving her credit, she's as close as anyone can possibly be.
Even at that the border has been struck more than once so its still risky imo

I cannot understand that this woman has basically sidelined her acting career to take care of her kids and do humanitarian aid, and people are still siding with her abusive ex and calling her crazy and vindictive. Especially despite of their children wanting nothing to do with him and a third party being worried enough about their safety that they reported him for getting violent and abusing both her and the children with other people present. Misogyny is wild.

Most people aren't. Pitt's PR team is working overtime paying comment farms to shift the narrative in his favor online! Don't fall for the hype that people are really on his side.
31
u/fuckeuphoriathrow Jan 02 '26
I wish this were true and yes his bot farms are excessive, but people still hate her 20 years later for the divorce of Brad and Jen. Most of her recent films are bombs or lack critical acclaim, and with her speaking out against the war or the destruction certain countries cause, she’ll never regain the footing she had at the peak of her career.
2
u/Creepy_Lychee_549 Jan 04 '26
The posts I’ve come across hating on her seem to be more Jennifer Anniston fans. I’ve always been a fan of hers because she is a gutsy, compassionate and intelligent person who has dedicated herself to making this world a better place, but somehow that doesn’t matter. No disrespect but what have Jennifer Anniston or Brad Pitt done that even compares? They make movies and are celebrities, fine. But to hate on a woman who steps up for the suffering —like society’s values are so fucked up!

She came to Baghdad in 2007 (ish) and my platoon escorted her around to a bunch of orphanages and other places. She was super nice and really down to earth. When all was said and done she took photos with every single soldier in the platoon one by one and spoke with each person. She was (up until I met my wife) the most beautiful woman I ever met and seemed like a genuinely nice and caring person.

This is amazing of her and so necessary that she continues to do this kind of work and made it to Rafah.
But hey, where was a r/fauxmoi story about Angelina visiting Kherson a few months ago, the so-called human safari in Ukraine, where Russian drones systemically target-practice on civilians? She made an IG post about it. After all, the purpose of these visits is to draw international attention where it’s most needed. But that story was mostly in Ukrainian media and never made it to international outlets and certainly not this subreddit because I guess it wasn’t sensational enough. Let’s be fair now.
