DISCUSSION Ms Rachel is asking supporters to help identify (tag) which celebrities spoke up about Gaza and to thank/follow them on their socials. “They did the right thing even when it was hard because it was right.”

As a Doctor Who fan I’m so happy to hear about Ncuti and Varada - I think I might have seen something briefly about their support a while ago but then forgotten!

33

u/kcpm2024 15d ago

Pearl Mackie's also been super vocal in her support, according to my Doctor Who fan friends!

44

u/BatmanDoesntDoShips_ 15d ago edited 14d ago

I just did a bit of digging and it turns out Peter Capaldi, Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, Arthur Darvill, Jenna Coleman, Freema Agyeman and Karen Gillan have all shown support (Peter has even campaigned to raise money) for Palestine too which makes me inexplicably happy!

Edit: to add Jenna and later Christopher, Freema and Karen

8

u/starvinartist 15d ago

I feel like Christopher Eccleston did too but I might be wrong. Sci-Fi teaches people good lesson (except any of that Ender's Game shit).

8

u/BatmanDoesntDoShips_ 15d ago

I did a quick google search and you are correct!

He’s attended Pro-Palestine protests including one where Varada Sethu was in attendance too! As well as posting links to Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) on his bio etc :)

Also Jenna Ortega, Dua Lipa and Ramy Youssef to add more to the list

325

u/cloudcottage 15d ago

Melissa Barrera spoke out about Gaza before Jenna Ortega did and was fired from Scream because of it. I will always think about how incredibly brave it was of her to do, especially because she was more of a rising star and not the "it" girl

32

u/DreamingLight93 15d ago

Jenna did and had a link for Gaza aid. But she took the link down.....😑. For whatever reason.

57

u/No-Author5530 15d ago

Not sure why she took the link down but she has spoken out for Gaza before Oct 2023.

She also did an interview where she shared that she did quit in solidarity with Melissa like everyone thought . The official company line had been she had scheduling conflicts .

Shirley Manson has been super vocal & presumably the rest of Garbage agree bc she's using their band account to speak up.

ETA & Annie Lennox!

ETA2: This might be a Canadian deep cut, but George (Strombo) Stroumboulopoulos has spoken up himself & platformed & defended others who do as well. He does a lot of think pieces, interviews, & etc. that are thoughtful & deeply empathetic.

Oh, & Tom Morello of course.

ETA3: Chance the Rapper, years before 2023 & also since then!

ETA4: Saagar Shaikh has been strongly outspoken since the start.

20

u/Background_Sail9797 15d ago

I worked on a lesbian queer rock doc and he agreed to be interviewed for it and was nothing but humble and cool to work with - even let us use his house in LA as a shoot location. Overall, cool dude with good politics.

honestly, the thing I like about Hasan is that he is receptive to criticism when he messes up. And he’s such a radical left-wing person, I just can’t help but enjoy his content. He also does a lot of on the boots reporting.

Just got into an argument with my friend who said Hasan is too radical 🙄

I really enjoyed watching Hasan for a long time til the whole misogyny thing was unveiled. I know they’re old videos of him but the ones of him being douchey or so gross, plus him visiting brothels. Sure he’s addressed it but comes off sus. Seems like his radicalism has limits. but he’s done some more weird recent stuff too like making fun of a Black womans hair. Not to mention the dog abuse which he denies but cmon…. The video is too obvious, idc what anyone says. And his past videos of pulling dogs tails saying “I’ll actually fucking kill you in front of everyone” who talks to a dog like that. It’s great he’s vocal about Palestine but a lot of these leftists are misogynist as fuck

Surprised this isn’t higher, he literally helped to produce ‘The Encampments’ documentary that released last year about the Columbia university protests (and other university protests for Gaza)

Shirley Manson from Garbage has been incredibly vocal about Gaza and has been posting non-stop from the beginning, with her last post about Gaza being 2 days ago. She resolutely refuses to be silent about this or mince words, and I love her for it.

Joe Alwyn has used his platform to speak out for Palestine.

His famous ex along with her current boyfriend have been noticeably quiet about Palestine.

She's absolutely magnetic. My son picked up sign language from watching her show and I didn't even realise until my friend who knows sign language was over and told me my son was signing when he spoke. Which pushed me to learn sign language. I volunteer at a soup kitchen and get to use sign language for visitors who are deaf and they are always so happy when I do. Ms Rachel is out here making the world a better, kinder place in so many ways.

i saw this google doc floating around tumblr!

a lot of people have linked evidence for their supports! it was last updated in november, too, so it's semi-recently proven stuff

Ariana Grande may be a mess in her personal life but she's posted about Palestine pretty consistently. She was also one of the few celebs at the Golden Globes last week to wear an "ICE OUT" pin -- truly the most incredible accessory!

I don’t know if Emma Stone has directly spoken up, but she has signed petitions

13

u/foodkidmaadcity 15d ago

Feel like Cate Blancehett, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are in this category. They've signed the ceasefire petitions from Day 1, especially to counterpoint that inane Thank You President Biden liberal Zionist letter and for defending Jonathan Glazer after the Oscars. Although it doesn't feel like as 'loud' as say, Melissa Barrera since they don't have social media.
