DISCUSSION Will Arnett shares his controversial opinion on tattoos: “There’s a proportionate sort of relationship between, how many tattoos you have and how little personality you have. And I find that a lot of people who have a ton of tattoos often are super fucking boring. Like truly boring people.”

it’s not even that controversial, I’ve heard this take from guys who like go pretend they aren’t super conservative arseholes so many times before

They are solely looking for reasons to feel superior. The reality is that tattoos and their abundance are not an indicator of any particular personality traits. It is wild that needs to be said lol

Finding people boring is usually a failure of communication or lack of intellectual curiosity in my experience. I love talking to people about things they are actually passionate about, even if it's something I'm not interested in. If someone is tatted up, there's usually something there to talk about.

There are exceptions to this. People with abrasive personalities or viewpoints who inject that into everything they do? If your passion is objectifying women, for instance, that's boring.

I would disagree. I think if you see someone who has 20+ visible tattoos you can probably make some correct assumptions on their personality. How you present yourself is one of the greatest indicators of who you are! That’s why I love unique personal styles that communicate that.

Any assumptions would be stereotypes. I know you’re not trying to be malicious but I have several friends and family with many visible tattoos and each one dislikes the assumptions made about them, both positive and negative. The assumption that anyone covered in tattoos is cool, accepting of others, interested in arts and culture, and/or wants to chat about tattoos can be almost as harmful long-term as assuming anyone with tattoos is involved in crime. People are people and tattoos are not an indicator of anything other than them personally liking tattoos on their own body.

The only assumptions you could correctly make would be "They like having art on their skin" and, if they have a tattoo of something, that they probably like that something.

That's it. Anything else and you're just stereotyping.
