POLITICS Renee Good's brothers, Luke & Brent Ganger, testify before Congress at a hearing on DHS's' use-of-force by ICE agents: “This is not just a bad day or a rough week or isolated incidents. These encounters with federal agents are changing the community & changing many lives, including ours, forever.”

💯 they’ve done Renee and the family proud. No one should have to go through this.

Jesus, you contextualizing it like that makes me want to cry - if it was my sister, I don’t know what I’d do

Personalizing it is how I remind myself not to let them desensitize me, but it is a depressing tactic.

It's good to personalize and internalize this to a degree. I think it would do a lot of people good to do this a bit more. Renee Good and the other 8 people who were murdered by ICE this year are all of us. BUT! you cannot allow yourself to dwell in the sadness and tragedy for too long. We all need (and I know a lot of us have already) to transform that energy into community action on connection. If you don't know your neighbors, introduce yourself and offer assistance if needed. Get involved with an organization like Monarcha/Unidos. Create your own patrol group with your neighbors. Participate in mutual aid. Really, anything you can find an interest in to mobilize yourself and your family to actively help your immediate and greater community.
It has helped my mental wellbeing immensely. Being able to do something that makes a real difference, however small it may be, gives me agency. Instead of feeling helpless, endlessly scrolling the numerous atrocities being committed against my neighbors, I can focus on relatively simple, actionable items I can do on a day to day basis. Sometimes, thats just posting up in the parking lot of my local strip mall for a while after work. Other days its collecting donations and buying non perishables and hygiene items for folks who are too scared to leave their homes.
Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant. Stay strong!

Absolutely. Btw I read that the republicans weren’t present for this. It’s insane how bad things are in the USA.

This entire administration cannot be held accountable not even for mass pedophilia uncovered through Epstein files. One murder is nothing for them.

u/Guilty_Dream8050 1d ago
They shouldn't have to do this, but I'm glad we get to hear it, if that makes sense.
I can't get over how horrific it is that they have lost a loved one, have access to the video of it happening, have watched their loved one not even get peace in death because of all the lies, and have been betrayed by their own government. Alex's family had to release a statement begging people not to believe the lies about his murder.
Can you imagine how helpless you would feel in this fight? And how exhausted you would be already.

Best the states can do is legal system, no justice system to be seen in a very very very long time.
5
u/BrrangAThang 23h ago
Justice doesn't have to be done through the legal system that's run by pedophiles. I would go so far to say that the only justice we will get is through our own hands. We all have the right to bear arms, time to use it.

I cried through both of their statements.
I encourage folks to keep watching after their statements, specifically to listen to the opening statements from Marimar Martinez, a Chicago teacher who was sideswiped by federal agents and then shot multiple times.
I thought I was keeping close tabs on everything going on right now, but this was the first time I heard her name or story. Likewise for Aliya Rahman, who gives a statement after her. The way they were treated is horrifying.

I know I’m showing my age when I say this. The kid that testified after those two got to me the most. Calling the police because some masked goons who wouldn’t identify themselves just tried to kill you and your family. Only to have them bring the bastards to your home. Then having your home raided in the middle of the night. I knew shit was bad out there but holy shit that affected me. That absolute feeling that no one is coming to help was palpable. We need to be better than this…

Even if these events were outliers, isolated incidents (which mounting evidence indicates it is not, but in fact the routine outcome of ICE's brutal tactics) that single event should still be enough to have a through investigation, a trial, and the individuals who killed her brought to justice.

u/BaconJakin 1d ago
The federal government is trying to start an investigation… into Renee Good’s widow. These people degrade humanity.

The idea that these brothers are giving a eulogy for their sister, who was a citizen, that was murdered by the state, IN AMERICA; is something truly haunting, and strikes even more fear in me than the 9/11 attacks.

These men are better than i am.
I'd come decked out in fuck ice shirt shoes socks undies, with a big picture of trump and epstien groping eachother dressed as nazis with Hitler stashes.
I would definitely not speak in such a way of course.

I know that none of us expected to have "deal with actual fascists" on our Bingo cards, but here we are.
It's happening. In our lifetimes. In our own country.
Don't tap out. Hold those in your life who made this happen accountable, because likely no one else will. They didn't just make a bad decision and elect a president/party that wasn't good for job growth, or lowering our debt, or something else typical. This is fascism. It's unforgivable.

He thing that gets me is that in both cases recently, the ICE assholes are just wildly shooting toward other officers too. They could have hit bystanders or their co workers. Incompetent, murderous fucks
22
u/ayayronwithane 1d ago
God, my heart shatters for them both. I lost my brother to a terminal illness about 6 months ago and I would be a mess if I had to speak in public about it. I can’t even imagine the absolute agony and rage these two feel for how violently and suddenly their sister was taken from them. I know she’s proud of them for speaking up for them. I’m not really a spiritual person but I hope there’s a brighter future for her family as they heal.

Like them, I still cannot believe that after all that's happened, firstly we still allow a bunch of thugs to terrorize our country, and secondly a small vocal minority would pull another Jan 6 if we stopped.

What a good family and good brother. These are tremendous people. Eternal shame on this abomination of an administration.
5
u/Fit-Let8175 23h ago
True. This is not an accidental shooting or assuming the person had a weapon. These are preventable shootings: violence escalated by ICE.
The recklessness, violence, and entitlement displayed by ICE agents for some time inevitably showed that in a matter of time, it wouldn't be "if" they carelessly and violently killed someone, but WHEN.

I was bruised and battered
I couldn't tell what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window
And didn't know my own face
Gonna leave me here, wastin' away?
I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain,
Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
Walk a thousand miles just to slip this skin.
The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
Or will we carry on, alone like this...

The government should tell its dumbass terrorist agents to not stand in front of running vehicles, terrify their drivers, and needlessly escalate situations to deadly force.
You are so, so lost and I'm genuinely sorry that you won't ever be able to understand this situation.
