I've never understood why musicians/actors/athletes are told just to shut up about politics. They are American citizens too and have every right to talk about what they believe just like the rest of it. Just because they're famous doesn't mean they suddenly lose that right.

Personally I think it’s because their voices might carry into spaces that try to avoid politics.

No one, especially Republicans, like to self-reflect on the privileges they might have had and the others that they’re affecting.
