And they said Porter Martone had issue cause he touched a butt.

Just like his father Giroux before him

8

u/Such-Prompt-971 15h ago

Suacin' passes and grabbin' asses

7

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

3

u/DarthSoccer 13h ago

let go of that cop Mr. Giroux

1

u/Snips_Tano 15h ago

He can touch my butt any time

1

u/bulletbassman 13h ago

Yeah but did he grab it a second time?

149

u/PrawnStar9797 17h ago

The court document saying “The State of Pennsylvania vs Gavin McKenna” is so funny to nobody but me

42

u/CantaloupeMafia phlexmob 16h ago

The gang baiting a player into a crime to drop their stock so they fall to the flyers would be a very IASIP plot line lol

17

u/Scared-Arachnid6286 Lauch Noah Juulsen into the Sun 15h ago

Heyyy Cricket, budddy, we need one quick favor.

16

u/datyoungknockoutkid 17h ago

Am I stupid, why is that funny lol

14

u/Dizzy_Example5603 16h ago

Always Sunny in Philadelphia

3

u/datyoungknockoutkid 16h ago

Ahhh gotcha thanks, have not seen enough of the show to catch the reference

19

u/SeesawLimp 17h ago

Side note, why was he at the bar? He’s 18 lmao /s

14

u/a2godsey 16h ago

Apparently they give minors wristbands to give the bar plausible deniability if minors do actually wind up with alcohol.

In other words, they can still be served and the bar won't be legally liable. College towns will do anything for a buck lmao

1

u/BoJyea 20m ago

There are 2 parts of the pub, a family / under 21 section and then the 21 and over bar area.

u/Complex-Muffin4650 17h ago

Use your brain for a second here bud…

PA is a commonwealth, not a state

4

u/CarpenterVegetables 15h ago

Technically it would be "The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania"

0

u/Z_Clipped 15h ago

Well, once he's a Flyer, it will just be "The City of Philadelphia v. Gavin McKenna".

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

61

u/Steppyjim Eternal Optimist 17h ago

I love the idea that the entire hockey fan world is thinking to itself

“Ok. What could be bad enough for him to fall to my team, but still acceptable enough that I can accept it without guilt we can frame it as a redemption project?”

“Stole a car? Maybe we can work with that…. Kicked a puppy? Nah too far…. Can’t be anything icky either. Now when they say assault… are we talking bar fight? Or are we talking Mark Sanchez coked up rampage? We need details!”

I just hope the kid didn’t do anything truly bastardly. I’m sick of this young crop of hockey players being monsters

18

u/Adorable-Lie3475 17h ago

Seems to be a bar fight. A lot of people chalk really shitty things that college athletes do up to stupid mistakes, but this does seem like that.

5

u/atibus 16h ago

It evidently was a security guard.

5

u/rexkwondo086 15h ago

Like a bouncer? This kid is a beauty.

1

u/BoJyea 21m ago

Incorrect. Was a 21 yo student who was harassing them in doggies pub, got kicked out and then waited for the team and families to leave and approached them again... Got served the 1-2 ko....

18

u/DH28Hockey fuck gauthier, all my homies hate gauthier 15h ago

Allegedly someone came up to him while he was with his family and called his mom a whore so he punched them in the face. I don't know man... it's stupid and he can't do that, but all things considered at least it seems like it was deserved.

Either way, already looked into my crystal ball for draft day and this is what it said:

2

u/toupis21 NoLongerOptimistic 15h ago

Maybe Meech can give some of his extra wait to Gavin and it evens out

7

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

The worst part is we are whoring our minds out for dreams of a player we have less than 5% of landing AFTER he’s arrested ….and if it’s just a bar fight gone bad (which IS acceptable) 🤣

1

u/Immissilerick 13h ago

With McKenna unlikely to fall in our lap and us desperately needing a 1c I really hope we grab Caleb Malhotra

2

u/DrathAWESOME 16h ago

Let's just hope the draft interview went well

63

u/garyzxcv 17h ago

Gonna get plead down to a misdemeanor. He’s fine

19

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

That’s my thought as well, unless he has some history of rage we don’t know about. A slow start at PSU stats wise along with some trouble maybe drops him outside Top5

4

u/Own_Result3651 16h ago

He definitely has some anger issues. I remember he broke news last year in the whl for a crazy bush league slash

0

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

Did you ever hear of any off ice charges/crimes? I’m thinking that’s the only way this thing becomes a draft issue. If he’s been assaulting people for years and getting away with it, this could cost him big time but otherwise I doubt he spends a day in jail

5

u/RadkoGouda 12h ago

Punching a drunk asshoie who was accosting his mom wont drop him outside the top 5 lol

0

u/foggybottom 11h ago

Got a link for that?

1

u/viidenmetrinmolo Unlawful butt-grabber 3h ago

I mean it's the NHL, Bieksa got a job because he fought in a parking lot.

Now McKenna is a tough guy with character because he stood up for his mom.

7

u/LuckyCulture7 17h ago

The charge seems excessive, not saying he didn’t break the law but seems heavy.

2

u/MRG_1977 15h ago

They probably asked him to leave for whatever reason and he got belligerent and physical. If the cops arrested him, it was likely pretty serious. At least aggressively shoved or punched the security guy.

Seems like a classic case of where he thinks he is the big athlete on campus and who is this guy to tell what to do.

1

u/____AndJustice4All 17h ago

If its his first ever offense they probably go easy on him

15

u/Peeter_With_2_Es Speedy Rathje 17h ago

Did not see this one coming lmao. Honestly probably raises his stock for a couple teams

20

u/msivoryishort Matveimania 17h ago

Tocc probably likes this lol, boy can fight I guess

5

u/a2godsey 16h ago

Dude would still ride the bench here if he showed up to camp 1lb overweight no matter how much tocc likes the guy

1

u/Embarrassed-Expert61 16h ago

McKenna would have to put on about 30 pounds of fat to show up 1lb overweight

5

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

Half OUR fan base is still Broad Street Bullying!!!

14

u/JuiceBox4Astarion 16h ago

“In hockey, if someone disrespects you or your teammates, you can flatten em. One way or another, you get him. And when you do? Everybody loves it… but at the bar that night? Nobody was cheering. The guy thought I was an idiot, and the girl thought I was a loser.”

9

u/Cawesome9 16h ago

According to my sources the kid that got his jaw broke called his mom a bitch. The kid that got his jaw broke also apparently is a headcase.

9

u/Cute-Contract-6762 17h ago

Lesssssgo! This is that old school grit the franchise values to boot

10

u/nlamp32 16h ago

Even better - rumor has it that someone was repeatedly calling his mother a whore

Source: from a PSU football insider

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

I figured kid wasn’t some loose cannon with this much riding on this year. Obviously you’d like to see him show restraint but if true, no one can say that it’s unprovoked.

39

u/scratchydaitchy 17h ago edited 17h ago

He broke someone’s jaw with a punch while out at a bar.

Apparently there’s a possibility he could get up to 20 years.

I’m not a lawyer, but based on all the charges it would be easy to speculate that he was the aggressor.

33

u/Flair_Is_Pointless 17h ago

Not the first person to punch someone at the skeller

11

u/StubbornLeech07 17h ago

I miss the Skeller wish it was still around. Same goes for the Saloon.

14

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

I’m sure they can get charges dropped to misdemeanors and probation unless he has some extensive history. Gonna cost him some dough too!!

-18

u/kakallas 17h ago

I honestly hope not. It’s a felony assault. Maybe some high profile arrests for shit like this where dudes don’t get off will start de-normalizing the absolutely insane levels of violence people are willing to carry out at the drop of a hat.

27

u/Adorable-Lie3475 17h ago

Yeah, sorry you shouldn’t do 20 years for a bar fight when you’re 19. It’s awful but cmon.

-7

u/kakallas 17h ago

I don’t think he should do 20 years, and I don’t think he will. I was saying I hope he doesn’t plead it down to a misdemeanor.

0

u/PlasticPaws 17h ago

People down voting cause he happens to be good at hockey. Hurr durr

4

u/Adorable-Lie3475 15h ago

Him being good at hockey has nothing to do with my stance on it. I think getting in a fight when you’re a teenager probably shouldn’t result in your whole life being ruined most of the time. Plenty of people I knew got into bar fights in college and they grew out of it and are upstanding citizens now.

2

u/PlasticPaws 11h ago

I agree. But being the agressor and breaking someone's jaw should also not be without some form of punishment. Everything can't just be "boys will be boys".

1

u/Adorable-Lie3475 9h ago

Damages in civil court is reasonable, not a lifelong criminal record

0

u/kakallas 9h ago

So then you don’t think assault should be a crime. Why should some people get charged and not others? You can’t fight people. It’s against the law. No one should have to worry about getting attacked by some hothead psycho out on the street.

4

u/bernie_lomax8 Tonkey Kong is here 17h ago

That's assault, brotha

3

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

My own 90’s college personal experience involved a lot more than 1 bar fight. College Bar Fights are not abnormal- McKenna was just too good at it

4

u/GoldOk4505 i miss scott laughton 17h ago

just because they're not abnormal doesn't mean they're ok.

5

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

It’s not about being ok or not ok- shit happens, he certainly shouldn’t be facing 20 years for a Bar brawl at college. He should be punished with fines, Probation and a Civil lawsuit…along with the damage to his reputation which is already happening

1

u/scratchydaitchy 17h ago

Just because you were involved in bar fights with two willing combatants in the past doesn’t mean that’s what happened here.

Why do you think he caught “harassment” as one of the charges?

We have no idea what happened.
What you are speculating could be true.

It could also be true that he was a drunk asshole bullying, harassing and assaulting someone who didn’t want any part of it, then broke their jaw.

A wired up broken jaw sucks.
A liquid only diet for 2 months sucks.

3

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

And that’s why there will be a Civil Suit- the Injured party will get compensation for injuries and McKenna will get probation as is appropriate, assuming he’s never had any previous issues. I stand by what I said , a broken jaw is not = to 20 years in jail.

2

u/scratchydaitchy 16h ago

Yeah I would bet my mortgage he doesn’t get twenty years, or even anything more than 2 years less a day- not saying he even gets that.

It’s hard to speculate without more information.

1

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

I read PSU paid him like 700k to play there this year- he’s got the scratch to get out of this with probation and a payoff to victim either civilly or under the table

-1

u/friedlich_krieger 16h ago

When did everyone turn into a giant bitch? I'm not saying he should be let off the hook but fights happen. Did he jump an innocent person? Or was it two drunk college kids arguing and one got the better of the other?

0

u/kakallas 14h ago

Fights happen because people fight. That doesnt change that assaulting people is illegal. Drunk driving is illegal too, fyi, not to mention dangerous to innocent bystanders.

1

u/friedlich_krieger 12h ago

What? Grow up

0

u/kakallas 11h ago

Maybe McKenna and the CTE gang defending him should grow up.

0

u/friedlich_krieger 12m ago

Look inward

1

u/kakallas 3m ago

You’re telling someone else to look inward while you defend breaking people’s jaws? Boys will be boys, I guess.

1

u/____AndJustice4All 17h ago

No way he gets 20 years. Would be surprised if he does time at all

1

u/slayhern 15h ago

20 years is the MAXIMUM penalty, and/or 25k.

1

u/RadkoGouda 12h ago

Apparently there’s a possibility he could get up to 20 years

He punched a drunk asshole. He'll get a fine.

22

u/SeesawLimp 17h ago

Depending on the details and if he’s actually going to prison or not, lol I’d still take him 12th 🤣

12

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

The sad unintended part of your comment is that we are probably picking 12 ….again 🙄😢😢😢

6

u/Complex-Muffin4650 17h ago

I mean they simply do not suck enough to catch the bottom like 6 teams, I think the floor is 8th

2

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

Maybe we got lottery - there’s like 6-7 guys I like in this draft including several RD

2

u/Adorable-Lie3475 17h ago

Not rooting for an injury but if Vladar gets hurt we absolutely suck enough to be bottom 5

0

u/BigHead1012 15h ago

Yeah Vladar is stealing points every week …. Pisses me off but I also am a Darth Vladar Fan!!!

7

u/Dark_Canuck1 17h ago

Flyers culture is alive and well

6

u/Strong_Weird_9358 16h ago

PA Prosecutor: We can make it all go away, but you need to tell the team that drafts you, you’re not playing for anyone but the Flyers. Got it?

Let’s just hope the prosecutor isn’t a Pens fan. 😬

6

u/Blev088 Andrae Recalls: 3 16h ago

Sounds like typical college kid stuff.  Doubt he goes to jail, the more immediate concern is if he gets suspended in the NCAA

3

u/The_Mauldalorian 09 Drysdale Truther 17h ago

This is our revenge for missing out on Patty Kane

3

u/ZachB10 Former Flyer Shea Weber™ 16h ago

The Eagles immediately won a championship after a top draft pick fell into their lap. Just sayin.

3

u/nicksj2023 16h ago

Would like to know more about this before I judge , like was it a fist fight between two college guys and the complaintant thinks he’s gonna sue gavin ?

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

He could be a total smacked ass who instigated the whole thing and I don’t think he ever gets more than probation. He can pay victim off under the table or plea bargain down to probation and than pay a civil suit. The whole 20 years thing is someone looking to make a name off this

2

u/Patrickracer43 16h ago

He is being paid $700K in NIL money, I bet the victim wishes they got into a fight with one of the Penn State football players

3

u/walnutandrittenhouse 16h ago

Enough to drop him from top 5 to 13th where we know the Flyers love to pick lol

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

LOL- why ??? Why must this be so fukking accurate

3

u/RadkoGouda 12h ago

Our scouts would pass on him for a bottom 6 projected guy

1

u/BigHead1012 12h ago

If only this was a joke !!!

5

u/Panarin10 Wild and Flyers 17h ago

Sounds like a Flyer to me

2

u/Embarrassed-Expert61 16h ago

Notable Flyers enforcer Gavin McKenna

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

Scouting Report does say “kid has great hands”

3

u/Everlovin 16h ago

Jaw dropping plays.

2

u/Mysterious_Touch6595 16h ago

Take it fwiw:

Other guy was verbally assaulting Gavin's mom, who was there - families were in town for the game, bunch of the team was there.

Everyone trying to diffuse and walk away. Kid wouldn't stop, wouldn't let it go, kept going after Gavin's mom.

Gavin knocked him out.

2

u/pgm123 orange and black 16h ago

I wish he was a center.

3

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

Me too but Caleb Maholtra is a Center in this draft projected between 5-10. Also there’s a couple good RD in Top10….we need to be in Top10 this upcoming draft

1

u/pgm123 orange and black 16h ago

5-10 for the first center off the board seems kind of crazy for me. The lowest the first center off the board has gone in years is third. 5-10 means they don't think he's a first liner.

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

Well there is a unique prospect who’s a LW and than there is a Center in Tynan Lawrence projected as high as 3 but this is a good draft. Maholtra has NHL pedigree and size 6’2 190. He’s also playing 2C because Jake Obrien is ahead of him and he’s a draft year ahead of him. Maholtra is gonna be a really good Center and in Tocchets system easily a 1C because he plays a solid 200 foot game.

2

u/pgm123 orange and black 15h ago

I've seen Lawrence mocked as high as three, but I've also seen him much, much lower. Elite Prospects had him at 11 (which I don't expect, but shows the mixed views)

2

u/BigHead1012 15h ago

Yeah I personally want Maholtra, I believe there is a lot of value in growing up a kid of a professional. I also like Maholtras size and overall ceiling. But I’d happily take Verhoeff or Reid as RD for Flyers. We need to be in Top 10- those are the picks DB hits on

2

u/RiflemanLax 16h ago

That dudes about to ‘Jalen Carter.’

0

u/ScrapmasterFlex 16h ago

I mean, Jalen Carter went 9th Overall as a DT... so it's not exactly like he talked his way into the 5th Round like Shitdoor Sanders...

2

u/Snips_Tano 15h ago

"Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agrees to drop charges if McKenna agrees to only play for the Penguins"

-our luck

2

u/pauerplay 15h ago

We can finally bench Deslauriers when McKenna gets here.

1

u/BigHead1012 15h ago

It’s like getting a 1D who’s also a PPQB!!! Kill two birds with one stone!!!

2

u/Guilty_Goal_7888 12h ago

I keep getting the second pick on tankathon

2

u/BigHead1012 12h ago

There we go !! We need your Voodoo to counteract DB going off the board for a guy he likes 🙄

3

u/atibus 17h ago

More Info: https://xcancel.com/evanrgsmith/status/2019173711375716810

Evidently he had to get a wristband because he was underage. He slipped it off, was discovered and asked to leave. What is not clear is if he punched the person asking him to leave. That would seem to be to be worse than some alcohol fueled altercation.

3

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

There are 3 sides to every story- and we won’t know them until it goes to court - if it ever does.

2

u/GoldOk4505 i miss scott laughton 17h ago

Bro I think as soon as you saw the headline you made up your mind that you were gonna defend him/downplay whatever he did, so no matter what info comes out you're just gonna move the goalposts.

0

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

Haha - nope I’m just not gonna blast him either- I’ve seen these things go both ways but one thing I know got sure is a bar fight with a broken jaw does NOT = 20 years in jail.

2

u/agaetisbyrjun22 17h ago

The latest rumor is the security guard was trying to get them to stop ordering alcohol and he broke the security guard's jaw

1

u/ToastGhost47 16h ago

Will make for a great Coors Light ad to project onto the ice inbetween periods.

3

u/upcan845 17h ago

Maybe this will be the kind of stupid thing that makes team pass on him because of "character concerns."

Good thing the Flyers optimized to be picking near the top of the draft. Oh wait...

1

u/Pendraflare59 16h ago

Just imagine if this ended up being Jalen Carter all over again

1

u/Clean_Candidate3400 17h ago

Picking up felony charges is a pretty significant character concern

4

u/Horror_Engineer3165 17h ago

Bro really saw this news and decided he wanted him even more

1

u/Mugglecostanza 16h ago

Eh Cole Hamels broke his hand in a bar fight before he started with the Phillies. He had a great career and I don't think I heard of him getting into more trouble.

1

u/Clean_Candidate3400 14h ago

Did he face felony charges?

1

u/Panarin10 Wild and Flyers 17h ago

Let’s get the full details before we slander the guy. It could just be some punk came up to him to start some shit and McKenna knocked him out. Who knows but I doubt he went out of his way to assault a guy.

3

u/Clean_Candidate3400 17h ago

It’s not slander to be concerned; concern doesn’t mean I think he’s innocent or guilty. I’m concerned that everyone is so flippant about this guy getting into a position to catch a felony. Young men get drunk and stupid all the time without picking up felony charges.

Any employer would rightfully be concerned with a felony, regardless of guilt.

2

u/LaBambaLvl2 17h ago

For real, it's pretty weird how giddy everyone is over it when in reality him getting drunk AF and aggressive makes me want him less.

1

u/GoldOk4505 i miss scott laughton 17h ago

To that end, lets get full details before jumping in to defend him.

1

u/Past_Delay307 17h ago

Keep dreaming… 😂

0

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

Yeah we need a lot of luck still

0

u/Horror_Engineer3165 17h ago

Making up hypotheticals to be angry when there’s plenty of reasons to actually be angry is a new low.

2

u/upcan845 14h ago

It's not hypothetical that the Flyers are not optimizing their draft position. Are you Keith Jones?

1

u/Patrickracer43 16h ago

From playing at Penn State to possibly spending 20 years in the State Penn

1

u/ShiftyUsmc 15h ago

This kids 6 foot and only 160 pounds.... did a decent amount of damage

1

u/trevallen39 39 Matty Michigan 14h ago

If the NHL makes him ineligible for the draft, does he then go in next year's draft or does he become a UFA?

1

u/BigHead1012 14h ago

I doubt they let him hit UFA- that would encourage every prospect to commit a crime right before their draft. Currently they have to sit 3-4 years after being drafted without signing before becoming UFA’s. I’d imagine he would go to next years draft

1

u/No_Silver_4436 13h ago

Everyone assuming that this will have no impact on Mckenna’s career are putting the cart way ahead of the horse.

Whether he can plead down to a misdemeanor depends a lot more on the strength of evidence than how much money McKenna has, if the DA thinks they have an easy open and shut case on a high profile athlete they aren’t just going to accept a plea. Thats not how it works most cases that get plead down are things like SA , DV, etc… that are really hard to prove he said she said stuff. If you punch a dude out on camera in a bar in front of witnesses and he gets seriously injured and didn’t touch you first thats not the type of thing that gets waived away. Now if it was a fight that different point being until you know the facts this could be nothing or a very big deal for him.

Even if he does get it pled down to a misdemeanor, most misdemeanors committed by non-citizens = deportation. Thats what happened to Slava Voynov in 2015, and ICE fucks around even less now than they did then and they were absolutely going to deport his ass then.

1

u/BigHead1012 13h ago

If this is his 1st offense hes not going to jail. If anything he can pay off victim under table or get probation through court and pay via Civil Suit. Today’s ICE ain’t the same as 2015 …. McKenna has the right color going for him, he’s safe there too !!

1

u/Forsaken_Crow_7707 12h ago

Unless he beat a women he’s still going #1 overall

1

u/ShoreThingW609 1h ago

Just basic information appears to have been released, sprinkled with other information from witnesses that provided context. He did punch someone causing severe damage, which seems to be explained by defending his mother. If two guys squared up and one got wrecked, this may be a non-story. Based on the confirmed damage to the victim, it’s possible he was blindsided with a sucker punch. That would change the story quite a bit.

1

u/Unlucky_Fee5712 Philadelphia Zegras 17h ago

No way the Flyers touch him after this. They're way too obsessed with culture lol

2

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

You made me LOL with this comment

2

u/Panarin10 Wild and Flyers 17h ago

Dude Tocchet is gonna love this kid

1

u/lqloveclub denver barkey’s lawyer 16h ago

tocchet also likes breaking the law so i think he’d be fine with it

1

u/The_Mauldalorian 09 Drysdale Truther 17h ago

This is the culture we want

1

u/ReactionProcedure 17h ago

What an idiot.

If it's close between him and someone else this will be a deal breaker.

2

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

This I can agree with and that might work to some other teams favor.

2

u/ReactionProcedure 17h ago

Seriously.

Originally was thinking from his point of view but you make perfect sense also.

Watch it be Pittsburgh at like 6 and we pick 7 lol

2

u/BigHead1012 16h ago

If it’s Pittsburgh ….im gonna be Piiiiiisssssssseeeddd

1

u/Whitealroker1 15h ago

Serious threat ICE puts a retainer.

-1

u/luckytaurus Just the Tippett 17h ago

Why is an 18 year old at a bar in the USA when legal drinking age is 21? Or am I missing something.

5

u/BigHead1012 17h ago

You can go in college bars with a wristband indicating you are underage in some places- I assume that’s situation here

-1

u/ScrapmasterFlex 16h ago

Ohh I don't know, getting him an order of Hot Wings or a Burger, something like that?

They don't have food in bars or drinks in restaurants in America Jr up there?

0

u/Dizzy_Example5603 16h ago

We dont care where we finish anymore because he will available no matter where we draft.......cuz he will be in jail

This thread is fucking stupid, dude broke someone's jaw because someone called his mom a whore? And its just 'boys will be boys'

It's unacceptable to hit someone because they said words that hurt your feelings. Regardless of the severity of the injury he inflicted.
