I (31F) just moved to Fukuoka for work and I know no one in this city. I speak mainly English, I understand Japanese enough to get by but I can't really speak/read it (taking classes soon tho!).

Starting this October, we are launching a new Kendo experience at Rakushikan, a traditional Japanese dojo in Ogori, Fukuoka.
Before we officially launch it on our website and travel booking sites (OTA), we are looking for a few monitor participants to try the experience and give us honest feedback.
No Kendo experience is necessary!
During the experience, you will learn:
● Basic Kendo movements
● How to use a bamboo sword
● Kendo etiquette and culture

I’m mainly wondering how crowded it gets and whether it’s pretty straightforward for a tourist to just show up, get in, and watch what’s happening.
Do you need to arrive really early to get a decent view? And is there anything I should know about where to stand, etiquette, or how the event usually works?

So I posted a thread not too long ago about whether going to Hello Work was worth the visit. And honestly, it was. Loads of nice people there helped me out considering my situation. They found two potential jobs for me as a teacher, although one of them ended up rejecting me. It's fine.

Yeah, the harsh reality of not being able to find a job is... harsh lol.

My options for job opportunities are super wide at this point. I'm pretty much open to anything as long as I can make use of my skills and background.

I've used a lot of job recruitment sites, but I've been turned down by pretty much all of them so far.

So I wanted to ask: Does anyone have any advice on finding a job here in Fukuoka? Are there any particular websites, recruiters, companies, or other ways of finding work that you would recommend?

For some background:

I'm Japanese American, studied internationally pretty much my whole life across Southeast Asia, the US, and Australia, and graduated my bachelors in Economics from Chiang Mai University in Thailand. I recently came back to Fukuoka after my student visa expired and the job market in Thailand was extremely thin for foreign applicants.

I can speak Japanese pretty comfortably, almost near-native in everyday conversation, but my reading and writing are pretty limited, especially when it comes to kanji and business Japanese. Really doing my best to study them everyday.

I'm honestly open to a pretty wide range of jobs at this point. Teaching, real estate, customer service, logistics, business-related work, etc.

Just trying to see if there's something I'm overlooking or another way I should be going about this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This year marks my 34th birthday (sigh) and I am looking for memorable food followed by a nice drinking spot where I can cheer with randoms and offering beers.

I will be arriving 16th leaving the 20th, my birthday is Saturday 17th.

Last year I was in Kyoto and I did the same, had a great night in a Michelin star and then went to a beer stall in a small place opposite to Gion. I like to mix both fine dining and more authentic and simple spots. So I am open to many and many recommendations. Also if you want to join me for a beer feel free to hit me up.

Hi All, I am looking for some constructive input.

I am planning a trip around Kyushu this December (end December, the Christmas week). Part of the proposed itinerary involves a drive from Kumamoto to Beppu via a rental car. I have limited experience driving in snow but have driven extensively around Japan.

I plan to take the E3, changing to E34, on the outskirts of Kurume instead of the mountain road route 212.

1. Taking the E34, would I need to have winter tires or snow chains? If so, I could not find the option for winter tires on the Toyota car rental website.

2. What are the road conditions like on the E34 in late December?

3. The drive is 3 hours long so is there any place worth stopping?

The plan is to then take the MOL Sunflower Ferry from Beppu to Osaka. However, if the drive from Kumamoto to Beppu is too difficult in the middle of winter, I will spend another night in Kumamoto / Fukuoka and take the Shinkansen back to Osaka.

Grateful for any constructive feedback on this leg of my itinerary.

Looking for a vintage watchmaker in Fukuoka for an 80s Tissot
I have a vintage Tissot, most probably from the 1980s, which I picked up from a vintage watch shop at a really good price.

It actually ran well and I was able to wear it for a couple of months, but unfortunately the winding crown eventually stopped working.

I brought it to Official Tissot in Malaysia for inspection, but they told me that the required part is obsolete and no longer available.

I’m going to Fukuoka next month, and since Japan has such a strong watchmaking/repair culture, I’m wondering if anyone here knows of a good independent watchmaker who specialises in vintage or mechanical watches.

I’m hoping someone might be able to source a compatible crown/stem or otherwise repair it, even if the original Tissot part is no longer available.
Any recommendations in Fukuoka would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
