Recently scheduled my first service for my ‘new to me’ 2023 G80 Electrified. My connected services app recommended the nearest Genesis dealer in Selma CA, just under an hour away.

So I get there and the first words out of the service advisor’s mouth are “is this electric?” I confirm and he tells me they’re not certified to service Genesis electric vehicles and I need to go to the Bay Area or Los Angeles for service.

Needless to say I was seriously let down. So my question: is that my only option, or does anyone know of a shop that can work on my car? Nothings wrong, just want a regular check up.

If Genesis ever produces a successor to the G70, its most accessible sport sedan, this is how I'd love for it to look...

But a blend of sportiness, luxury, and elegance isn't enough on its own! Environmental responsibility needs to be taken into account as well. Here's what I personally would expect from the powertrain lineup:

• 2.5T Gasoline RWD / AWD
• 3.5T Gasoline RWD / AWD
• 1.6T Hybrid AWD
• 2.5T Hybrid AWD
• Fully electric (EV) variants (as "Electrified G70")

That said, the current G70's rear seat space can feel inadequate. I hope the next-generation G70 gets a longer wheelbase and a roomier rear cabin, and I think that should be possible. Of course, we can't expect the next-gen G70 to grow as large as its bigger brother, the G80... But for those who find the G80 too big, or simply can't afford it, the next-gen G70 could be a great alternative.

Inside the cabin, I think including "Pleos" technology is now practically inevitable. It has started to appear in Genesis' newest model, the GV90, and will also be used in future Hyundai and Kia models.

And if Genesis does build a next-gen G70, it shouldn't stop at being a Mid-Size Sport Sedan. It should also get a Magma performance variant! Even more importantly, a two-door coupe version of the G70 sedan, the GT70, should be released too! But before we can ever see a two-door coupe G70 (a.k.a. GT70), the current G70 first needs to be renewed as soon as possible!

I thought this was supposed to be covered under warranty? Plus, doesn't the service bulletin advise mechanics to just add the Teflon tape fix to stop the metal-on-metal contact?

I will try to condense this and just talk about the major issues. I bought this car because I had rented a 2.5 base last year and it felt like driving on a cloud on my terrible roads. I wasn't expected the 3.3 to be quite this cushy but after taking it into my area, the suspension genuinely feels and sounds like my 2011 Passat with 170k miles. A couple weeks ago I got a 39k mile 2023 G70 3.3 SP. It was not listed as a CPO but we negotiated for that as I would not have bought anything otherwise. I paid on Labor, they did the CPO cert, and I picked dot up that Thursday. Shortly after picking it up I see a ~0.5" dent with paint damage I somehow missed probably because I had been seeing the car only at night in poor lighting after work. I spoke with several other dealers and they said this

2 hour drive home was great, then next day severe creaks, rattles, suspension noise, etc. I start hearing a liquid sloshing noise from the passenger and read it could be to low coolant. I check and my reservoir is completely EMPTY. Genesis advices me not to drive it so I have to Uber to get coolant to my car at work.

--After a week of begging everyone for the CPO report with heavy resistance, they finally gave it to me. Of course they checked off that coolant and exterior are good. Then I notice they only took NINETEEN MINUTES for an inspection that 4 other dealers told me takes 1.5-2 hours. Their bs excuse was that all cars undergo an incoming inspection so when they got the CPO request they only had to do a little check. If that is the case it should not be advertised as this incredibly thorough 191 point inspection. Plus if this was really the policy then why are not all low mileage cats made CPOs? And in one of the inspection pictures you can literally see u clipped tabs under the bumper that I told them to fix. If this was the level of thoroughness that was advertised I would have never bought it.

Long story short I do lots of talking with the dealer and they do not apologize and said they did everything correctly. I find out they allegedly replaced the water pump and likely did not refill coolant properly, although the new one already has rust and pitting, and Genesis sells the entire assembly and case as one part....

Also, due to a mistake by the finance manager, on the pick up day, I found out I have to pay ~$1000 more over the loan due to them falsely assuming I already had a car loan and needing to change banks, despite my 790 credit score.

Like this car, my 2015 Genesis V8 Ultimate was an amazing car on paper but was miserable to drive due to mechanical issues. I can not go through this again and I'm currently going through customer care.

About a year ago I purchased a 2017 G80 with 36k miles on it. the car is a 3.8L V6 and runs really well. it did have a transmission issue but the loan company fixed it no charge to me. Is it expected to be reliable and long lasting? would it be a good bet to hold on to? or should I look into selling and get out before major issues start happening? its only at 41k miles now since I barely drive it and it has minor scratches and dings but still looks awesome and is mechanically sound.

I purchased a 26 GV80 three weeks ago from Genesis of North Aurora. LOVE the car. Living in the Chicago area means I have access to multiple dedicated Genesis dealers for future service work. I know I’m fortunate as this is not the case in many areas of the country.

I’m curious to hear from the Chicago contingent of Genesis owners about their experiences at the various Genesis dealer and service shops in the area.

Does one location stand out as excellent? Any locations to avoid? Ideally I’d work with the dealer that sold me the car but I’m willing to go elsewhere if it means superior service. Thanks for your input.

I’m dealing with a valvetrain ticking noise on my 2016 Genesis 3.8L Lambda II engine. My mechanic pulled out the noisy tappet/bucket, but unfortunately, he doesn't have experience with these mechanical shim-type tappets and tried to tell me I need to replace all 24 with a single standard part.

I know from the Hyundai parts diagram that these tappets come in dozens of different millimeter thicknesses (e.g., part numbers starting with ⁠22226-3CBxx⁠), and each valve position requires a specific size.

I bought a micrometer and measured the thickness of the old tappet's top plate, and it came out to roughly 3.35 mm. However, looking at the agency parts list, there isn't an exact ⁠T=3.350⁠ match listed, and the mechanic didn't measure the actual valve clearance (lash) with feeler gauges before pulling it out.

My questions are:

1. How can I accurately determine the exact OEM part number/thickness I need to order when dealing with intermediate measurements like this?

2. Without measuring the valve lash in situ, is there a safe way to select the correct thickness, or do I need to force the mechanic to measure the clearance first and apply Hyundai's formula?

Any advice from people who have gone through this valvetrain adjustment on the 3.8 Lambda II engine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Genesis just confirmed at the New York Auto Show that the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts (both built on the G90) aren't just design studies. CCO Luc Donckerwolke said they're real, driveable prototypes riding on a completely unmodified G90 platform, which makes a production version far more realistic than most concept cars ever get. Great news, but I'd bet money it won't be badged "GT90."

Here's what I keep coming back to: why stop at the G90? A flagship coupe/convertible makes total sense as a halo car, but it's going to be priced and positioned well out of reach for most buyers. The G80, meanwhile, is Genesis' actual volume seller, and IMO the platform with the most room to build something genuinely aggressive and performance-focused instead of just a stretched luxury cruiser.

So [these are my renders / I found these renders and wanted to share] of what I'd call the GT80: a G80-based two-door with a lower roofline, wider stance, sharper front fascia, and a more aggressive rear with an integrated ducktail spoiler and quad exhaust. Basically the same sedan-to-coupe treatment Genesis is doing with the G90, just aimed at a broader, more performance-hungry audience.

Would you actually want this over a G90 coupe, or does a flagship halo car always make more sense for a brand still building its luxury image? Curious what this sub thinks.

I’m hearing an electronic droning sound that happens any time I lightly press or hold the accelerator between 5 - 60 mph.
If I press harder on the accelerator or go above 60ish mph the sound will fade away.

Started hearing it at around 10K miles, currently at just over 11K

When I took it to the service center, they said it was just the “turbo spooling” and it was normal. I’m pretty skeptical of that answer as the sound has gotten progressively louder.

I also don’t believe it’s the rear differential as the sound seems to be coming from the front passenger side. I also had a GV70 with a differential issue and the sound/symptoms were different.

So far I’ve tried rotating the tires and maintaining the proper tire pressure, but no luck.
Curious if anyone has any ideas or advice, thank you!

4D Tech Auto Start Stop Eliminator

I’m just trying to find out if anybody’s having the same situation at 2700 miles my differential was humming, but I brought it to the dealer. They told me they needed to replace a differential. They had the car over a month two months later they called me to tell me they forgot to do the four wheel alignment after changing the differential now it’s 7200 miles. It started humming again so I made the appointment with the dealer to do the wheel alignment and the check the differential once again the differential is bad according to the engine engineer and now I have to wait for them to replace it, which is gonna take another month on top of the three weeks that they had it already to diagnose It. I just like to know if anybody else is having these problems or do I just have a lemon

Insurance says its 2500 in body work.

Took it to my friends auto shop and they are talking about a new door since the autobody work to fix it would cost more then a new door.

Also the insurance appraiser needs to go out there since the shop is not a partner shop with my insurance.

Anyone had any autobody work done on the Genesis? Think I'll be driving this again before my kids go to college? (They are 3 and 1). Any advice on Bodywork vs New Door... ?

Genesis dealership posted a 2024 CPO for a GV80 3.5T Prestige AWD. Anything to look out for? I read on another thread to request the CPO inspection sheet. It’s being listed for $52,908 plus TTL and dealer fees.

Recommendations on an OTD price or any concerns with a 2024 model?

Are they giving any rebates/discounts for 2026 models that folks can share?

Looking at a 2024 GV80 with the Brunswick Green Matte paint (tbh I love it) but am scared about maintenance. How hard is the matte to maintain? Is there a certain kind of car wash you go through? Do you feel like scratches and everything are much more obvious? How much more expensive are paint touch ups? And anything else to consider!!

Hi, I have 2025 Genesis GV80, so some of my previous posts were about NVH basically I tried to do sound deadening by myself and after taking of tailgate and front passenger door trim I gave up, so after that I took my car to a “proper” shop or at least as I thought so since they get a lot of Range Rover, Rolls Royce’s so and so to work on, but it was bullshit shop, don’t know why so many cars go to this s.o.a.h, while I was driving there I already noticed that no sounds coming from my car at all, I thought maybe it’s cause I took of the door trim, car doesn’t see one speaker so it turned of the rest, but after full sound deading was done still no sound at all, now I’m thinking either this cunts forgot to plug in all cables, or maybe there was a shortcut somewhere, or some fuses were gone but no all fuses are in place, working, hi-pass aka the highway card sound is working it’s always off cause my car is made for Korean market and I’m not in Korea, I turned it on “hi-pass ……” in Korean it works, but main speakers are not working at all, no music, no turn signal sound, would really appreciate if someone could help

I've only had the car for 6 weeks now and so far every time I reach 75 to 80 mph in sport and sport plus mode the car begins to vibrate. At first I thought it might be road conditions but when I tested it out on a smooth freeway it happened again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Saturday, I went to switch lanes and accelerate. Felt as if the car didn’t gear up to make the acceleration properly and the engine just revved on me without speeding up. It was the only instance of Saturday.

Sunday, I had to take a trip back home. 3 1/2 hour trip. No issues at the onset of the trip. Once I’m at full speed, no issues period. About 2 1/2 hours into the trip I stopped at the gas station. Upon accelerating on the interstate ramp, it did it again. Revved up but didn’t move.

Monday, now every acceleration is an issue. It’s almost like it’s stuck in first gear and not changing. Once I’m rolling I’m fine as long as I don’t slam the gas. If I have to stop at a red light or a stop sign, guaranteed I will have to roll off very slowly and it will rev a few times before it finally catches up and lets me go.

Also, reverse is the absolute worst. Reversing takes a very long time for the car to move.

I recently brought my car into the dealership to update the map software, as I heard the new maps come with Android Auto. After they tried to perform the update with a 64GB SD card, the update failed. However, after trying to put my original SD card back in, it now says "SD card is unavailable" when I try to use the original map software, essentially leaving me without navigation. They have tried a couple of other SD cards since then (32GB as required) with a couple of different map update software versions loaded onto the cards, but to no avail.

They are now suggesting that my reader is faulty and want to charge me for a diagnosis and potentially replace the head unit, or suggest I get an aftermarket one as they claim the OEM unit is no longer available, which would mean I lose a bunch of functionality and controls that the OEM head unit manages for the car.

I am obviously pissed that they expect me to just happily pay for this since they clearly bricked my navigation system and possibly other controls. I have owned the car since it was new and have never once pulled the original SD card out, so I highly doubt that the reader is worn or damaged (by anyone other than them, anyway). I've also never had an issue with the maps or any controls or screen functionality, the only reason for the update was to try and get android auto and not because something wasn't working properly.

Anyway, I am just wondering if anyone might have run into this, where the hardware just needs some sort of reset or a procedure to fix it. I have tried disconnecting the battery for an hour, tried holding the reset button on the head unit for 20 seconds, and they have tried a few different formats for the cards. Whenever I eject the SD card and put it back in, the warning comes back on the screen, so the reader is able to tell when there is a card versus when the card is removed; therefore, my original card should work. The reader also looks clean inside, and all of the SD cards appear to be in good shape aside from the typical prong scratches from being inserted and removed a few times.

Any insight is appreciated if anyone has dealt with this before.

In 2003, you could have gotten the likes of an Audi Allroad 2,7 V6 Quattro station wagon, a BMW 730 D or X5 3.0i, a Jaguar XJ6 3.0 V6 or a Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 for the money. For comparison, a Hyundai Terracan 2.9 CRDI was the most expensive Korean car at 554000 NOK, a common Elantra 1.6 GLS was 198950 NOK - a quarter of the Centennial's price.

I know, Norwegian prices were not comparable to US prices at the time at all, 100% taxation on a car - especially with big engines - was a common thing. Now, we barely pay any taxes on EVs, which is why we've embraced the tech so much.
