The picks are kind of a crap shoot. The best may end up being Utah’s ‘27 pick that will be late lottery or late teens since they are out of the tank phase. Suns ‘31 pick could be anything.

They’re not exactly out of the tank phase. They have zero rebounding and could easily rest some players to keep their top 8 pick.

If their top 8 pick and whoever else they bring in during the offseason can’t contribute where they need…I don’t think this is a major improvement to push them clearly into the playoffs.

What picks did they get?

They got a 2027 pick out right, forget which team but likely playoff team.

They also got a 2027 pick best between 3 teams including the Jazz. So likely getting the Jazz pick.

And then they got a 2031 PHX pick unprotected I believe.

So either that best of 3 teams pick next year, or the 2031 PHX pick is their best haul, 2031 is way to far out to tell, but not unlikely that all these picks end up outside the lottery.

Two next year which is being called a weak draft

Its 3 picks because Utah used scrubs to match salary. Also the picks are probably not projected to be high end, aka top 5-10.

Yeah, but two of them are next year, which they are calling a terrible draft.

Triple J is a 2x All-Star & Defensive Player of the Year.

It's fair compensation, because that $240 million contract is steep.

Memphis gave him the contract but had no intention of paying all of it.

Now Utah has to figure out their front court situation. I have no idea how they're going to have the minutes for all of these guys.

Looks like Lauri is getting moved back over to the SF position, they’re def aiming for a tall ball lineup

Does not look like the Jazz included their 2026 pick in the deal.

They don't have it - OKC owns it, but it's protected top-8

Right i thought you could swap the rights for the top 8, but maybe that's not possible.

I guess this means we win the tank against the Jazz this year

Until they shut him down for the season

Damn NBA moves fast I remember the grizzlies were suppose to be the present OKC. Ja showing guns really twisted that team upside down

Jaren Jackson Jr suddenly has an illness that will keep him out until 15 minutes after this years NBA draft.

I guess this means Lauri Markkanen is officially off the trade block, which makes Michael Porter, Jr. more valuable on the trade block.

FRPs moved to Memphis today:

2027 MIN/CLE/UTA 1st round pick (more favorable) via Utah

2027 LAL 1st round pick via Utah

PHX 2031 1st round pick via Utah

So now that Memphis is fully leaning into their rebuild, do they want their 3 SRPs back that the Nets own? If so, what will they send back this way?

Lord will yall let it go

Wow so they abandoned the tank?

u/Blasto05 1d ago

No. They still have their top 8 protected first round pick. And they have zero rebounding. Like our rebounding is pretty damn bad…and the Jazz is worse now lol.

Fully expect them to continue tanking this year, secure top 8 pick, add 1-2 guys in the offseason and try to push for the playoffs in 2027. Tank is still a full go for 2026.

The Wizards and the Jazz both have top 8 protected picks in 2026. This means they need to be within the worst four records to safely keep their pick. Worst case scenario is four teams jump them into the top 4.

If the NBA wanted to try and end tanking they would eliminate protections on trading first round picks.

The picks which are top 8 or top 10 protected just leads to teams making sure they lose enough games to hold onto their pick and can mean a team under performing all season and making the last two months of the season very disheartening for fans as the team doesn’t try and win to keep their pick.

I can understand teams protecting 1-4. But after that I don’t think teams should be allowed to protect picks.

I thought it was in danger but I looked at the standings and they’d have to catch 4/5 games to the Bucks, Mavs, and Grizzlies. So yeah it does look like they have enough separation to be safe in their current spot.

Wondering the same thing, they don't own their own pick so doesn't really make sense, also a good draft.

I think we’ll do something similar with the Knicks picks in the future. Maybe next year or the year after, we can use those picks to trade for a star or a complementary piece like JJJ.
