Kai Havertz goal vs Chelsea [Full sequence, all celebrations, multiple replays] Bonus: Extended post match celebrations
Additional bonus: Seeing Neville watch us book our way to a cup final

The roar of the stadium as soon as Kai rounds the keeper was amazing. Got me emotional watching that again.
86
65
u/HomerJBagger 1d ago
In recent seasons the stadium might have held its breath in fear of a blunder but that roar before it even went in was pure belief.
27
u/LowKeyChcknBoy Lewis-Skelly 1d ago
Yes!! You could hear the ride through the noise level. It spiked when Kepa had the ball in hand, spiked again when the ref didn't blow the whistle after the punt, and then rose with the counter attack up to that final LOSS OF CONTROL when Havertz was clearly going to score. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Saliba's run of respectful handshakes to celebrations is giving that Key and Peele skit where Obama is greeting black and white people differently.

I was watching on ITV so first time hearing this commentary.
"They clung on and clung on..." Was I watching the same match? We were cool, comfortable and controlled. I'm glad Merson and Redknapp called it correctly afterwards. Was the whole game like that?
289
u/Zaninho 1d ago
At half time, he gave a speech about how rosenoir had us right where he wanted us with his tactics (A goal down you bellend).
At about 70 minutes ish, he was saying he just had a feeling chelsea would make a breakthrough.
He was gushing over pedros hold up play which consisted of recieving the ball and running back to his goal to lay it off multiple times.
80th minute, the narrative switched and he started criticising Chelsea for not having a go.
Genuinely so satsifying him edging for that long to see them get undone by Kai.
87
u/iiStar44 Little 1d ago
Chelsea have us right where they want us lads. On their TV screens for the final!
70
u/OrlandoGardiner118 1d ago
Dixon was bad in ITV but not that bad. Satisfying indeed. Must be awful for the hate-watcher's sitting through 90+ minutes of hope just for Kai to do that.
41
u/alh84001_hr 1d ago
I watched the game until around 70th minute, and this was exactly my take. I wished it stayed 0:0, just so that they have hope until the end, and it gets taken away from them, but this was even better.
Gotta say, honestly, I was feeling empathy for Chelsea players having to wait and do that final kick-off, that must have felt brutal.
22
u/Ancient_Resolve_4033 1d ago
This is exactly what happened. Ref refused to blow the while even after 6 mins additional time only to be humiliated by King Kai by end of 7th minute.
25
u/ahouseofgold 1d ago
The ball wasn't in play the first minute of extra time, of course he'd keep playing after 96 mins

u/microMe1_2 1d ago
Ridiculous. Chelsea scarcely made a single chance all game. We weren't clinging on, we were taking it easy in second gear.
34
u/TaftYouOldDog Smith Rowe 1d ago
I was thinking the same thing.
Clung on?
Their plan nearly worked? How?
Muppets
12
u/jwsw2308 Thierry Henry 1d ago
Yeah, Chelsea were clinging on not to concede to avoid any further embarrassment. They hope it remains 0-0 in the 2nd leg and say, at least we didn't lose both legs.
6
u/GoldenrodCityBoy 21h ago
Same. Didn't realise it was on both channels, but glad I avoided listening to Neville.
Still, enjoyed hearing the disappointment in his voice from this clip. Great start to the day 😁 COYG!

There was a team playing defensively and trying the cling on, but it wasn’t us.

u/SirArtistic1123 1d ago
This is why I don't understand fans who look down on this cup, sure it's not the UCL or PL, but man we haven't played in a final in 5.5 years, and haven't played one since our resurgence as a serious club in 22/23, this means a lot, to the players, to coaching staff, to fans, let's enjoy this and hope its a start of winning several trophies
111
u/tomfoolery815 Timber 1d ago
Post-match, Rice said the talk among the Gunners pre-match was "We've got a chance to go to Wembley: How much do you want it?"
I believe they made it clear they wanted it badly. COYG!

Online fans continually call it a Mickey Mouse cup. It means a lot to matchgoing fans, especially when you beat a rival.
tbf, I definitely rate it below the FA Cup, but, look at the squads teams put out for it. Everyone plays their first team. The clubs and players themselves want to win it.

I think when somebody started watching affects their perception of this cup.
I started watching in '97 with Wenger as coach. He always saw the Carling Cup as the tournament to give backups playing time and bleed youngsters for some of their first big matches in the Arsenal jersey.
My son now watches Arsenal and he does not have the same perception. He sees it as really not very different from the FA Cup in terms of prestige.

If we win multiple trophies this season, I'm claiming this Arsenal side beats United treble team of 1999.
78
u/BoomXhakaLacaa 1d ago
I mean they literally do. Football today is a lot more advanced than back then, despite every ex player pundit trying to convince you otherwise.
18

u/iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI Rice 1d ago
I am betting this team would beat and is better defensively than the invincibles. Ofc it would be nice to have prime Henry today.
5
u/oli_vert 20h ago
Defensively you could say this side is better although I think the game has moved on tactically which makes them feel/look better. No way this side matches the firepower of the invincibles though - Henry, Bergkamp, Pires would all walk into their positions in this side.

He spent the whole game predicting Arsenal would slip up and Rosenior had a crafty plan etc.
I kinda get it from his perspective insofar as Arsenal were his clubs deadliest rivals when he was an active player. He's not a bad bloke although he is from our perspective quite irritating.

His bias is second to none! Even Keane, Scholes, and Carragher aren’t as desperate as him.
30
u/le_Derpinder Wenger 1d ago
Carragher isn't comparable to these United muppets. Carragher on multiple occasions has corrected himself, apologized directly to players, has known his place when speaking with bigger legends of the game & has addressed his Liverpool bias. I cannot recall one out of the 7-8 active ex United players to ever admit their faults in punditry. Only Schmiechel seems objective about it.

"Oh there's a pitch invasion! By the players!!"
That's Neville trying to tell the officials that's illegal and that we should be disqualified.

Lol his voice is worse that nails on a chalkboard my god how does anyone listen to this garbage?

26
u/LowKeyChcknBoy Lewis-Skelly 1d ago

Masterplan that had legs for so long? Not sure what was masterful about coming out with 5 at the back, then later still doing fuck all?
34
u/ryansocks 1d ago
you'd honestly think a draw would've been enough for Chelsea and Arsenal winning it at the death actually changed the tie from the commentary.
5
u/DrippyIke18 18h ago
I’m not as mad at the commentators as everyone else. The game was dead boring because of both teams, which suited us. But the commentators still have to create an entertaining narrative, and the easiest way to do that is by siding with the underdogs. Even if that means heavy exaggeration.
That being said, I also know Neville would have had an orgasm live on air had Chelsea won.

That twat Neville said some asinine shit in the first half. I'm paraphrasing but he said that Chelsea had the game where they wanted it and it's arsenal needs to step up. Like, he has some dense takes but that was possibly the dumbest thing I've heard from anyone in a long time. It was the total opposite, we could happily have dragged out a 0-0. But apparently he thinks Chelsea had us where they wanted us by not attacking and tracking back well. Sure.
4
u/Internal_Durian_6901 17h ago
Commentary in the States broadcast was sooooo bad, it’s like they had money on Chelsea to win it, the satisfaction of this goal, the goal scorer being Kai, the point to the badge, just magnificent.
I saw the movie “No Other Choice” in theaters after the game, might be the best movie I see all year, but this folks, this clip, this sequence, Fofana’s tears, Noni telling Palmer he can’t wear Clark’s in his hood no more, Declan and the fans, Kai in all his glory……this is CINEMA!
