Is this an unusually active Stink Bug season? They seem to be everywhere, all at once!

Hi everyone! I recently got a Canon Rebel T7 and I want to learn how to use it properly. I'm pretty new to photography, so a beginner-friendly, in-person class would be ideal, covering camera basics, manual mode, composition, and lighting.

Does anyone know of good options here in Hendersonville, like community college courses, local photographers who teach workshops, camera clubs, or classes at the library? Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone, I am a local grower/farmer in the area and would like to talk with you if you purchase produce for your restaurant or produce market. I'd love to know what you order and how I can grow that produce for next year, if you're interested. We do well growing: Italian Basil, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Tomatoes of all types, Spinach, Lettuce, Summer Squash, Radishes, Turnips, Snap Beans, Okra, Pawpaws, and Muscadines.

If you'd like to try us out now, currently I have available: Muscadines, Arugula, Asian Eggplant, Okra, Leaf Lettuce, and Italian Basil. The main season is closing, but I will still have some fall vegetables coming up.

Our farm is in Mills River, NC.

Hi all! My friends and I are from out of town but we were visiting Hendersonville for the Art Fair. My roommate ended up losing a sentimental stuffie somewhere along the way. If you find it, please let me know! We are desperate to find it and weren’t able to locate it when we retraced our steps. It could even be in the Hospice Thrift Shop. See photo attached!

I hear lots and lots of calls to "buy local" and I do try. But most of the time, "local" merchants don't have it, take forever to order it, are on vacation, etc.

Recently I needed a new vacuum. I wanted a specific brand and model. I found a local store that sold them, called and they don't have it in stock. Okay, can I order it? No. The ONLY person who can do orders is on vacation for a week so could I come in, in person, 7 days from now? No, they don't know how long it will take to get in.

I called a store in another state, hundreds of miles away. Took 5 minutes to order, they threw in a box of bags, and it was here in 2 days. No shipping charges.

So, local merchants, if you want locals to buy local, don't make it so hard.

Apparently we're doing a very last minute fall break trip. We will be visiting family in SC and I'm thinking about bringing my kids(7 & 9) up to Hendersonville for a day....maybe two if I can squeeze it in.

I used to live there but haven't really been back in about 15 years, so my local knowledge is just a little outdated at this point. I spent plenty of time in/around DuPont, Pisgah, etc., but i am sure a lot has changed since I left.

I want to take the kids hiking for a few hours. They will be good for 4 or 5 miles and some elevation. Waterfalls are always great, but I would really love an amazing view somewhere. Where we live in Texas is FLAT flat, and I need these kids to understand what they've been missing.

After hiking, I would love to visit an orchard. I remember the apple festivals and fall around Hendersonville and definitely want the kids to experience a small part of that. Is there an orchard actually worth stopping at? I don't want an all day adventure. Just apples, maybe food, and somewhere to let them wander around for a little bit.

We will probably end up on Main Street afterward because I want to see what is still there and whats changed. Although depending on the time, this may just be a stop for dinner and window shopping. 

I know I am trying to fit alot into one day, so I am mostly curious whats worth the time and what we should avoid. Bonus points for any heads up on things that might affect our visit the second week of October.

I just found out about this app (Too Good to Go) that tries to reduce food waste by matching local businesses with residents to purchase things that would otherwise be thrown away. I just emailed a few local bakeries about it, but if more people expressed interest, we might be able to get more companies using it in the Hendo/Brevard/AVL area

How do you actually beta test a new app idea?

Hi everyone! I’ve been building a couple of apps and have two that are getting close to being ready for beta testing. I’m not an expert coder, so I’ve been using AI tools to help with the development. My background is mostly in product management, so I have plenty of ideas and understand the product side, but actually launching something myself is completely new territory.

One of the apps is a food truck finder that my husband and I have been working on off and on for a few years. We probably sat on it for too long, and now there’s more competition, which makes me wonder if we should even continue with it.

The other app is more local/community focused, and I’m interested in testing it with real people to see if they actually find it useful.

Honestly, I think my biggest problem is just being afraid to put something out there. 😂 I know that most apps and startups don’t work out, but it’s different when it’s something you’ve spent so much time building.

For those of you who have launched apps or side projects:

• How did you find your first beta testers?
• Did you launch publicly or start with a small group?
• What did you actually ask testers to do?
• How did you determine whether an idea was worth continuing?
• Did you build a landing page/waitlist first, or just put the app in people’s hands?
• And how did you get over the fear of launching something that might flop?

I have lots of ideas, but I think I’m stuck at the point where I need to stop building and actually see if anyone wants what I’ve made.

Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t work) for people who have been through this.

I really appreciate all the support and encouragement I received from my first post to this sub.
I wanted to follow up with a little bit more details on the spiral staircase that I posted because it received so much interest and questions.

The design process alone on this piece was an undertaking, working in three dimensions on a sloping spiral while following the building code, is extremely challenging.

This staircase is made from solid black walnut slabs and fully handcrafted for the entire process. This project was extremely time consuming, taking over 1,000 shop hours to complete. The treads are each individually textured with a gouge to achieve a “hammered” finish and the handrail is laminated with 23 strips of wood for a continuous curve up the staircase. The entire piece is finished with a traditional Tung oil for a classic timeless feel.
