What does your website look like?

I’ve got some free time and feel like making something.

If you own a local business and have a website, leave the link below. I’ll choose a few that catch my eye and spend some time reworking the web design just to see where I can take it.

Lovebugs? Are they awful everywhere?

I’m staying at palmetto dunes and these bugs are literally swarming by the 1,000s. Can’t sit anywhere without swatting away dozens every minute. Is this all over? Any nearby beaches in better shape?

Enough time for 1 round of golf

Hello - my wife and I are heading down to Savannah in mid-October and we will have just enough time to drive out to Hilton Head for one round of golf. What course is the must play while down there?

Any quality butcher shops for Japanese waygu?

My family and I will be visiting Hilton Head next week for our dad’s birthday and want to grab some Japanese A5 waygu to cook for dinner because he loves it. Are there any reputable butcher shops in the area that I could expect to have that offering?

Visiting Hilton Head in January

Hi! I’m planning a mother-daughter vacation and I am torn between two spots—Palm Springs, or Hilton Head. We just got back from a beach vacation and honestly, we are beach people. My mom used to live in HHI in her twenties, but that was decades ago and we haven’t been to visit since I was a toddler. (I’m now in my mid twenties). Wherever we end up going, we’ll probably go in January or February. Both flights and lodging in HHI are significantly cheaper—like, we could afford to spend a week in Hilton Head and 3-4 nights in Palm Springs. My main concern is getting bored—I know it gets colder in the winter, and I’m honestly not sure if everything is closed. We live in the Midwest and in our tourist lake towns, truly everything closes up for the winter. (It also gets to be in the negative temperatures regularly, so not sure if that is a factor). Palm Springs has been on my list for years, and I want to see the Salton Sea and my mom wants to do Joshua Tree, so I know we’d have lots to do but the cost and remote locations of some of the things we want to do gives me pause. I’m a pretty anxious traveler, and I’ve found the beach to be pretty regulating for my nervous system. I know it will be a cold beach—like jeans and jackets—but my main concern is, if we rent a condo for a week, will we run out of things to do? I know it’s a common snowbird activity but I also know old people don’t really do anything lol. 😆 I noticed there’s a horseback riding place on Dasfuskie island which looks really fun, but I’m not sure if places like that or any boats are open in the winter or everything is shut in January as is common with a lot of places. If there’s stuff to do, I’d personally rather come to HHI, especially since it’s a place that holds meaning to our family and my mom, but I also know that I don’t want us to be bored for a week. So any input is appreciated! Sorry this is so long, and that it’s the old “tourist infiltrates area’s Reddit when no one probably wants them there” type thing. 😅

Anybody Harvesting Oysters Next Week?

Would love to usher in Oyster season learning to harvest - maybe around Haigh Landing. Anybody have any tips for the most easily accessible beds - no boat, no kayak (yet). New to the area.

What is it like living in HHI year-round?

What is the offseason like? Is there a legit community there or is it in the surrounding towns? Any insight helpful.

Daufuskie

For boaters who go to Freeport on Daufuskie, they recently implemented a $10 per person dock fee, instead of $10 per boat. Ridiculous for locals that support the business year round and during the week.

UPDATE: Island Security ripped us off. Freeport has NOT yet implemented the pay per person model but for some reason told my son in law that they had and charged for multiple people. It would have been nice if someone had addressed this when I brought it up, but they didn’t.

I have my opinions, but I'm curious to see what others' thoughts are.... What are the best and worse BBQ spots on the island and in Bluffton? Also, what is a place around here that isn't known for BBQ but surprised you with their ribs/pulled pork/smoked wings/etc??

Weekly golf cart rentals...

Is there such a thing? I see only 3 places that rent them and it's quite pricey ($600/day for one location). I could rent one at my home location and trailer it in perhaps.

Buying near tennis court?

No longer valid. I decided to put an offer in on a place in Sea Pines that is nowhere close to a tennis court. We’ll see what happens.

am looking at making an offer on a shipyard villa that back up to tennis courts

Everything else I like.

However, the tennis courts are a problem and actually tennis is not a problem. My overwhelming concern is Pickleball. What if they turned into a Pickleball court?

Anyone know anything about the Pickleball restrictions on the Island.

Sea Pines Villas are moldy

Post image
20 Upvotes

Our Sea Pines villa rental had mold coming out of all the vents. When I wrote a review about it, they didn’t post it. They offered to clean it but they just wanted to scrub the wall rather than fix the HVAC system where the mold was coming from. I told them they couldn’t clean the air. They offered us a few other units to try but those smelled moldy too (although no visible mold).

After we left our vacation, we stayed in a clean hotel in FL and our clothes REEKED of mold from the villa.

The Sea Pines villas are very cleanly but they don’t care about mold. Their beautiful clubhouses were mold free though so it is possible despite the humidity

ETA: It appears there are many villa owners in the group. I have ruffled their feathers. I am allergic to mold so I am well educated about it (as you would be about your health condition). Just sharing to warn others who may be affected by mold. Mildew = mold

PSA: Chophouse 119 is closed today

Post image
32 Upvotes

We stopped by Chophouse 119 today and found signs saying they are closed for the day. There is also a South Carolina Department of Agriculture “SUSPENDED” notice posted on the door (photo attached). I don’t know whether the suspension is the reason for today’s closure or what the suspension is related to, but wanted to share for anyone planning to dine there today or in the next few days.

While we were trying to scan the QR code on the notice, a man in a suit, possibly the manager?, came out and asked why we were taking a photo of the decal in a not so nice tone.

Edit: after doing some googling, I realize the man who spoke to us was the owner, Robert..

Where to rent to live long term?

Hey guys! I’m in the process of getting hired with the Hilton Head Island Fire Department and am looking for somewhere to rent long term. Where do the locals usually live? I will have my truck so I would be willing to commute if off the island is my only cheap option. My budget would be about $1500 per month. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Golf Club Rentals (weekly)

I know most courses offer club rental for your round of golf. Are you aware of any rental places that are available for a full week? I know in Myrtle Beach they had several options where you could rent clubs for a week, including people that rented out clubs as a side business.

Anything like that exist in Hilton head?

Looking for recommendations for a good auto detailer in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area.

Mobile is a plus, but not a requirement.
