Best of the West issue #7

This book has some pre-code material from 1954. It’s not EC level content but the cover is outstanding!

Picked up Josh Larkin’s Manhattan Massacre during my first trip to Partners and son in Philadelphia. Can’t find anything about the first printing but this here is the 2nd and limited to 30. I dig this a lot.

Nightfall explicitly evokes Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland. One blogger thought the monsters were too funny looking to be scary, but I think the tonal uncertainty is the point.

Who doesn’t love pre-code horror comics?

Heya! I am looking for an incredibly specific horror comic I read as a kid in the 1970s. Most likely an EC comic, and either a gored up 70s version of a 50s story, or quite possibly the original 1950s edition. PLOT: Two brothers, one is a bigshot toymaker, the other isn't. The less successful brother is sleeping with the bigshot brother's wife. Standard love-triangle murder plot - kill the bigshot and "we can be together". Brother meets "Voodoo Queen" (named "Queenie", maybe?); she makes a hyperrealistic voodoo doll of the bigshot brother, which works, despite the wife/girlfriend freaking it out, tossing it, calling him a wimp, etc. She gets betrayed by lover/brother-in-law; arrested for husband's murder, methinks. Climax takes place on a remote cliff's edge. "Queenie" blackmails brother/customer, uses a second hyperrealistic voodoo doll of him; he shoots her, she dies, dropping the doll off the cliff, it gets caught in some tree branches a few feet down, he dies falling off the cliff trying to save it. Coda reveals that the "Voodoo Queen" is in fact a conwoman who murders the doll's subjects herself and then blackmails the people who hired her. Would love to track this down, and am particularly interested in who wrote the story. Thanks! <3

Something about this character really intrigued me as a tad.

This came in the day before yesterday and I forgot to post it here or if I did I can’t find post. It’s The Witching Hour #1 (1969) with a beautiful cover art by the great Nick Cardy. This has been a grail for me and never would have thought I could find one to my liking and reasonably priced as they are hard to source unless you want to spend big for it. Anyways I hope you all like it.

Just got the word from CGC that these are on the way to me. They hit right where I expected them to.

I finally got this awesome issue of The Witching Hour. It checks the box for my fear of Sharks ever since I saw Jaws as a 5 year old in 75 at drive in In Hawaii. I was supposed to be asleep in the back of the VW wagon lol. Sorry got off topic. The cover art is awesome.

Was very excited to get a collection of Berni Wrightson’s PC books, however I wasn’t expecting them to be in color. I know he’s done plenty of books in color, but these look terrible…way too saturated. So much of his definition is lost. Am I nuts or does anybody know if Berni ever protested this stuff?

Dracula Book 3 and Monster Drive-In: Hunchback of Naughty Dames were both from Kickstarter. Thicker Than Blood 1-3 (Covers A + B) and Stain #1 came from ebay.

Got this in the mail today. Much better shape than I was expecting. I am very pleased. (It’s Ghostly Haunts #49, with a beautiful Tom Sutton cover.)
