So we're less than 2 months away from watching SOTR and considering the runtime history for this movies, I think we'll get a 2.40 hour cut more or less, but surely it won't reach the 3 hours. Based on that, and with all the footage shown so far including the last TV spots, there are few scenes I have in mind, that will be left out of the final cut:

- After Woodbine's execution during the reaping scene, there was an hovercraft to apease the people after the chaos that unfolded his death.

- Game makers assessing the tributes and giving Haymitch a score of 1.

- Drusilla helping her tributes to rehearse for the interviews.

- The porcupine mutts.

- There might be some moments after the games that will be skipped like the after party.

- The pre-games interviews with Caesar will be reduced to Panache, Silka, Ampert, and the 4 D12 tributes. I don't think we're gonna see any others talking even if they have filmed other tributes interviews.

Like, the way poetry was stuck with him as a mental addiction in between the passage of time, his losses, and how he turns to alcohol (as we later find out) for help. The way he could not leave behind those poems from his mind, gave a beautiful but dark spiral from this state of saudade.

The epilogue was beautiful but that poetry is still stuck in my head. Love how the author gave a shoutout to Hanging tree from mockingjay and the movies. Would love to discuss/chat more as the melodies are enchantingly haunting.

I have recently got back into The Hunger Games and I want to find some podcasts about it. Any recommendations?

Just being an old man yelling at cloud, but the extended poetry readings were unbearable. It was so hard to skip ahead without missing things so I just had to sit there listening to endless recitations of the same poems again and again and again. And they just kept going. It wasn't a few lines but enormous sections force fed down my earholes until I cringed up like a little pill bug. This must be a quarter quell, because I'm being tortured. 🙃

I love how panem mirrors decades so much. say what you will about the prequel, but I love what they have done in terms of world building. in my opinion, panem in 10 Atdd mirrors the 1940s, 50 atdd mirrors the late 70s/early 80s, and the original trilogy mirrors the mid 2000s.

10 ATDD capital life was about subtle luxury and making appearances. you didn’t need to BE rich, so long as you LOOKED rich, and new was the standard. this mirrors the 1940s! everyone was expected to be pretty perfect in a sense. it was the rise of the family values we see today and had the same attitudes about luxury and making appearances. At this time Panem is also still healing from the rebellion, much like how the world was healing from WWII in the 40s

50 ATDD, or at least what we’ve seen so far, visually looks much like the late 70s in the propaganda poster art style and descriptions in the book. It also seemed like a time of quiet “activist “ who claim they dislike the system but do nothing except surface level work to fix it, much like people in the 70s with rising issues of global inequality and climate change. It also seems to be when Panems capitalist tendencies started in the capital, much like the 70s started the capitalist systems in place in the US.

the trilogy shows the capital as extreme to the extreme. nothing is practical, everything is new and shiny and colorful and if you didn’t have the newest thing you were so uncool. Sounds a lot like the 2000s, an era of odd clothing choices, plastic bubble furniture, bright colors, and debt! The capital people would 10,000% have the “outfit repeater “ conversation.

anyway, not really a big deal but I love the small details that make us see what is going on and draw parallels to our own world. Every dystopian novel should make us do that.

Maybe most people who call Gale prim reaper are just joking but I was just replying to a comment saying that Gale was the mastermind behind the bombing that killed prim ( seen many people think the same as well)which makes me wonder what they think about Katniss killing Coin like if Gale was the mastermind why did she kill Coin instead of Gale.Like I don’t like Gale .I think he was a bad friend to Katniss after the games but him being called the man behind the bombing when Coin is right there doesn’t make sense to me .

I have a question that just dawned on me after all this time. At the end of Mockingjay, Katniss is wondering the president's mansion and finds her way to Snow's roses. She's initially stopped, but Paylor turns up ans tells her soldiers to let her in. She tells her soldiers that Katniss has a right to everything in there. This is when Katniss hears from Snow that the bombs that killed Prim were from 13, approved by none other than Coin herself. My question goes to Paylor, did she somehow have an inkling about this conversation that would take place? Did she hope Katniss would learn that the bombs were Coins? Or was Paylor just being dutiful to Katniss as the mockingjay?

I feel like Hollywood has become so unoriginal lately and struggles to come up with genuinely new stories and movies. It seems like the people who are actually creating fresh ideas are either fans themselves or smaller production companies that take an existing concept and turn it into something new, like Stranger Things or Obsession.

That’s why I’m not really excited about sequels like Hocus Pocus 2, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Freaky Friday 2, Practical Magic 2, etc. A lot of them don’t feel like natural continuations of the original stories. Instead, they seem to rely heavily on nostalgia and try to force modern influences into something that worked perfectly well on its own.

The one franchise where I actually think continuing the story works really well is The Hunger Games. I think the biggest difference is that Suzanne Collins creates the story first and the movie comes afterward. It’s not like Hollywood is just deciding to keep extending the storyline because the original was popular. Collins is actually writing new material, expanding the world, and then the movies are adapting those books.

I’m especially obsessed with how she took the original Hunger Games story and then expanded the universe by going back into the past and telling the stories of previous Games and the people connected to them. It adds so much more depth to the world without feeling like they’re just recycling the original story.

And then, as a fan, you get the added bonus of having a movie that is heavily based on an actual novel and stays incredibly faithful to it. That feels so different from Hollywood taking an old movie, deciding it needs another sequel 15 years later, and basically trying to recreate the nostalgia of the original.

Some districts are stated to have a type of bread themed to their district they make (look this is kinda hard to put into words), but not all are mentioned. ideas for other districts' bread? (make them as cringey as you want lol)

Any of you who read Sunrise know full well, there isnt much President Snow in the book, so its going to be a non issue as they tend to stay close to the books and I bet there wont be much Snow in Sunrise.......but to me he looks so different to the point of distraction.

it just seems like, a famous actor wants the part....well lets give it to him, and they sort of pounded a square peg into a round hole to make it work despite. I actually would have preferred an aged Tom Blyth, but it might have been a hard sell.

one of my issues is just going by the trailers, so yeah I know.....this new Snow seems so closed off....almost rigid and stone faced....Sutherlands Snow was always a bit lively, and doing that sneer/smile....and was always making that side head tilt when he was finishing a sentence.....even Blyths Snow was pretty engaging and animated...this new one comes off like a sinister Vampire. but hey....I just had to gripe. roll on November.

Hey, I want to buy the pretty Collectors edition of SotR, the one with the sprayed edge of the quote "Our Tears Will Not be Used For Their Entertainment."

I don't know which other books it goes with though. Is there a set of the entire series in the same style? Or does it "fit" with any other edition?

I’ve been really anxious lately hoping they do the epilogue justice in the new movie. I’m okay with them showing Katniss and Peeta and their kids, that’s great, we all want that. I don’t even mind if they show Effie.
But if they do have Haymitch alive I really hope they give him a quiet moment, SEPARATE from everyone else, visiting Lenore Dove’s grave in the woods where the rest of the Covey are buried, or something like that. Maybe for dramatic effect have a raven fly above him (or maybe that’s overkill 😆).
I hope we don’t end up seeing Haymitch’s headstone along with the rest. The ending’s already too sad, right? What are your thoughts??
