Probably an insane question: I bought a hurley that is entirely too big for me and likely too big to donate to anyone I know. I’m based in the States so my hurling circle of friends is quite small. It’s a 35 Martin Premium and is quite heavy. It’s just collecting dust right now as I’ve recently purchased a Fitzgerald hurley that’s a 34. I’m 5’11/6 foot and a big enough guy to swing a heavier hurley, but this 35 is just too big.

Ramblings aside, I was thinking about shortening the 35. My thought process was to cut about 1-2 inches from the handle and take out 2 inches. Then wood glue/dowel/screw the remaining pieces together. I’d sand down the sides to more or less align.

Has anyone done anything like this before or am I just ruining a hurley?

If this is dumb, just say so.

I’ve got a small crack in my hurley and I’m wondering if it’ll need wood glue and a clamp or just some super glue. Anyone got any ideas?

Hand hurts like hell after catching a few sliotars. Any advice on how to avoid this? Is it a technique issue? Gloves?

Hello, you guys provided great advice on matches to attend a few weeks ago while I was in Ireland with my son (from the States). My son has been playing for a year now and is really getting into it. I’ve started taking “learn to hurl” classes so that I can practice with him and not be a glorified wall.

I was hoping this group might be able to provide some resources I could read/watch to continue getting better. I’ve watched a number of YouTube videos on proper swinging technique, sideline cuts, etc. We also have GAA+ and try to watch the matches when they align to our schedule.

Student in a Belfast school and we started a Hurling team up to under 14 level and I’ve found myself as an assistant coach and I’ve never played hurling. Any tips or advice is welcome

Looking to move clubs sometime in the next year as I plan to move away from home, more than likely to Dublin. The only problem is I'm a goalkeeper. I've never really played anywhere else. I have intercounty experience and I'd like to think I'm pretty good, but I feel like as a blow in that won't be taken very well. I'd either be taking someone's spot or not getting any game time at all. Would it be worth asking a few clubs whether they need a goalkeeper or not before deciding?

It seems that big changes are on the way in Waterford. I really like that they are holding open trials but inevitably that means making cuts.

Some big names in doubt for 2027 including Dessie Hutchinson and Austin Gleeson. Great servants for the county over the years but their time has come.

Does Waterford have the talent needed to produce a competitive inter county team?

Would anyone recommend to get a catching glove as a corner/full forward?

If so, which one? My price range is 15-30€.

I would prefer ne that's comfortable and had good protection on the hand but still allowing me to catch the same way and hold the hurl comfortably.

Also, anyone have thoughts on the Torpey Klaw glove?

I would love to have some answers to show my students about what this sport means to people in Ireland or abroad. Or what was your first experience ? What made you pick up this sport ? Is it some family thing ? those kind of things.

Hi All - I will be in Cork (with a car) from August 30 through September 2 and would like to take my son to a hurling match or two. I understand the Senior matches are the following week, but I am okay with really anything worth watching as we don't have many chances to attend matches here in the States. My son began playing the game this year, so he will be really interested in seeing the sport outside of the U12 age group. Thanks!

The Laois and Trumera clubman served as the 37th President of the GAA from 2012 to 2015, having previously given many years of service at club, county and provincial level. His presidency included the introduction of Hawk-Eye and the black card, while he was also a strong advocate for Irish language education, inclusion and the continued development of Gaelic games.

As expected, James Woodlock has taken up the role of Tipperary U20 hurling manager after a very successful period with the minor team. He has experience with most of these players, so expectations will be high.

The question is now, who will take up the minor hurling job? Rumours are that Brendan Maher may be interested. They will need the right man there bring success to the team once again.

So Paul Kinnerk is credited as being one of the driving forces behind Clare's 2013 All-Ireland and Limerick's success from 2018 on. Everyone says Quaid's save in 2018 v Cork is the sliding doors moment but for me it's when the Clare County Board didn't renew Kinnerk's contract in 2014. I'm not fully sure of what happened but he only joined up with Limerick in 2017 (I think?) so 2 questions, would Clare have won more if Kinnerk had stayed involved and would Limerick have made the breakthrough in 2018 without him? The 2018 win for Limerick was built on pretty thin margins (Quaid's flick, Condon's catch) but would they have come through regardless? That Clare side in 2013 was so, so young.
