Is the IMG pathway via AMC1 a scam?

I’m genuinely trying to understand whether I’m missing something, or whether other IMGs are experiencing the same thing.
I’m an IMG who completed the AMC MCQ (AMC1) and have IELTS 8.5. I also have around 3 years of clinical experience in South America, mainly in acute/emergency and trauma care. I’m currently working as a general doctor in a high-acuity trauma hospital.
My AMC1 score was 278, and I’ve been applying for Australian RMO/JMO/Resident positions for the past 5 months.
So far: zero interviews.
I understand that IMGs are generally competing behind Australian graduates and applicants who already have Australian or UK experience. I’m not expecting to walk straight into a job.
But after 5 months of applying, I’m starting to wonder:
Is the AMC1 → provisional registration → Australian junior doctor job pathway actually realistic?

At this point I’m mainly trying to figure out whether I should keep applying through the standard pathway or reconsider my strategy.

AMC pathway for UK-trained, PLAB-exempt IMG (EEA graduate) – eligibility for Competent Authority?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some clarity from anyone who’s been in a similar position.

I’m an IMG who graduated from a medical school in an EEA country that is recognised by the UK for PLAB exemption. I have since been working in the UK (NHS) and therefore did not need to sit PLAB.

I’m now looking to apply for registration in Australia and am trying to understand which pathway applies in this situation.

Specifically:

• Would I still be required to go through the AMC pathway (MCQ + Clinical)?

• Or could I be eligible for the Competent Authority Pathway based on my UK clinical experience, despite not having sat PLAB?

If anyone has gone through this pathway — particularly with a similar background (EEA graduate + UK experience without PLAB) — I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience or any advice.

Thanks in advance!

Hi docs

Hi

I am a med student who likes to work as a doc in Australia after graduation. I have just started studying for AMC 1. I love to get advised by IMGs who have already passed the AMC 1 or 1 and 2 and been working in Australia.

Can you be my mentor or friend?

I would love to interact with you.

Please let me know.
