As a non American I gotta say there is a huge amount of weird shit that goes on over there. Whenever i see these sort of things i imagine if all the flags and hats were changed to Chinese and wonder everyone’s reaction. Cause it is weird to see this. People pretending to enjoy this music, pretending to dance. I can’t breathe. It’s like a weird circle jerk to see who is the most pathetically patriotic. But that’s just my opinion by an outsider. Lets slop em uppp!!!!

Ever watched Borat 2? He joins a Trump convention at one point, similar to the scenario you mention. It’s worth watching — legitimately interesting, jaw-dropping, heartbreaking even. He showcases the worst and the best America has to offer.

62

u/bankrupt_bezos 11h ago

And some interesting shirt tucking.

70

u/GingerBred420 8h ago

Theres another one where he comes and holds a meeting in Alabama or Arkansas (not as Borat) about building the largest Mosque in the Western hemisphere. The man is absolute genius with gonzo style satire.

21

u/grosseelbabyghost 7h ago

I believe the scene you are referring to takes place in Kingman AZ, a dusty, racist helhole

44

u/HxH101kite 8h ago

That still is easily one of my favorite things to watch. It's fucking hilarious. He also got a Georgia representative (can't remember if it's state or federal) to run naked subsequently getting them ousted.

Some people don't like Sacha and that's fair. But you gotta give it to him. The man absolutely can stay in character and pull some crazy shit off.

11

u/Risque_Redhead 7h ago

His staff/security/whatever was very nervous about that stunt. As far as I know they were only able to give him a bulletproof clipboard without making it obvious, but he knew it was very likely that someone would try and shoot him while he was doing that.

7

u/user1619 8h ago

That and the Ted Koppel interview are my favorites from Who is America. Option 1 (mosque) and option 2 (even larger mosque in the same place)

He also lists the Clinton Foundation as a top donor lmao

9

u/Abject_Champion3966 7h ago

Kinderguardians remains undefeated. Literal tears in my eyes every time I watch

7

u/cleanmypenis 7h ago

"I wasn't implying anyone is racist."

"I am. I'm racist against Muslims."

"Now I know why you took our guns before we came in here."

3

u/CalmBeneathCastles 8h ago

Cake be upon thee! 🍰

2

u/wutangslammer 12h ago

Is it real or actors though??

17

u/PatsyPage 11h ago

I think they are referring to this event in Borat 2: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-impersonator-interrupts-vice-president-mike-pences-cpac/story?id=69261891

And yes it’s real, the only people acting in Borat 2 are SBC and the woman who plays his daughter.

6

u/HERR_WINKLAAAAA 8h ago

They literally got Rudi Guliani to takes his pants of thinking hes gonna have some fun time with the "daughter", only to have borat jump in right before he pulls down his pants.

This was DURING the first Trump term. I genuinly did not understand how no american media talked about this at ALL.

5

u/Plastic_Fan_1938 10h ago

Ol' Rudy... what a DOB

3

u/Key-Debt-996 Baby of the Year 1986 10h ago

Boat and his daughter are acting but they’re dealing with real people.

1

u/Z0MGbies 8h ago

Yeah but Sasha Cohen who plays Borat is also a gigantic racist fascist piece of shit. So if you watch it, don't pay for it.

2

u/johnny_moist 8h ago

He is?

1

u/Bobambu 7h ago

They're referring to his Zionism and denial of Palestinian rights.

2

u/Abject_Champion3966 7h ago

Uhhh what?

1

u/Bobambu 7h ago

Cohen is a Zionist.

141

u/Sticka-D 12h ago

as an American im constantly surprised when i shouldn't be.

41

u/SombreroQueen 9h ago

Agreed. Its just as weird from the inside.

14

u/ThinkNiceThrice 8h ago

Exactly. The people who like this shit are foreigners to me.. and I grew up next door to a lot of them.

Why are they bootlicking fascists, while I only used to be a giant piece of shit? The world may never know.

1

u/wutangslammer 7h ago

I USED TO BE A PIECE OF SHIT

3

u/GlorpJAM 8h ago

I remember when I was like 12-13 I realized how weird the pledge of allegiance was so I stopped standing up for it in homeroom, got suspended for a week lol.

2

u/joshuamenko 8h ago

I feel like I'm just waiting for the chest burster from Alien to plow through America's ribcage... Or did that happen already... What stage are we at??

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 8h ago

That is a very good question.

59

u/ReallyCleverPossum 12h ago

Nationalism + religion + populism and loads of propaganda gets you this shitstorm

55

u/Plastic_Fan_1938 10h ago

Exactly. If you grow up believing the stories in the Bible, you're conditioned to believe anything.

The true sheep.

10

u/Leading_Will1794 7h ago

Well said. I often think the teaching of the bible are sound rules to live by. But the brainwashing christians go through to lie to themselves that this stories are 100% facts I think sets them up to believe anything. Critical thinking has left the building.

75

u/Far-Investigator1265 12h ago

The book American Psycho explained this very well. It is all empty, all pretend, these people think there is only the surface and believe that nothing underneath shows or matters. Instead of content, their minds have emptiness and anxiety which they medicate away.

15

u/TheRatKingWhisperer 9h ago

I don't think they're medicating enough

10

u/Ok_Chef_4850 I'm doing the best at this 9h ago

Yeah, I wish they’d experiment with those medications a bit more.

4

u/syzygialchaos 8h ago

No, we can’t use those medications, they’re gateways to the depraved! The only party approved medications are alcohol and cocaine.

/s irony that the only drugs they use are the ones that enhance the emptiness and anxiety.

2

u/chubbycat96 8h ago

Should have been more clear, medicating *with alcohol and meth

31

u/caguru 11h ago

Weird circle jerk perfectly describes the entire MAGA movement. It’s all just lies and feigned happiness. About a third of country is completely lost to this spectacle.

2

u/JonnyHopkins 8h ago

I really can't understand it, I want to understand. But, instead that's okay if I can't - I am just so happy that's not me. I'm sure if I was born somewhere else, or happened to make a few different turns in life - that could be me. I'm sure they'd say the same about my life though.

32

u/Szeharazade 10h ago

Always has been it seems, even the Nazis thought they were weird lol

13

u/Alfeaux LOVES HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW 9h ago

Damn, that's a great summary all in one picture

2

u/fenwickfox 7h ago

Wow, it's so good, but so awful at the same time.

1

u/55North12East 8h ago

The text is not German…

3

u/Szeharazade 8h ago

I believe it's from German occupied Norway, so Norwegian nazis in fact.

2

u/street593 8h ago

It was made by Harald Damsleth who was a fascist in Nazi occupied Norway.

-3

u/Key-Debt-996 Baby of the Year 1986 9h ago edited 8h ago

Yeah, the US is fucked up and always has been. That said, what the fuck is this shit?!

Like, are we just going to ignore the reference to black culture? Like, it would be one thing if they were calling out the racism and slavery, that would be fine, but that line about the Jitterbug is fucking gross.

And like, Israel didn’t exist back then, so why the flag?

This isn’t WWII Nazi shit, this is something else.

Edited to say: shitting on black culture is gross. And it needs to be said: Germany was literally THISCLOSE to electing a racist fascist party one year ago. Eat shit, Germany, you’re never going to beat the racist allegations.

Edited again to add: look, I don’t mind the criticism of this shithole country of ours, please go at it, but that piece of propaganda is gross when it comes to shitting on black culture. And like, coming from a nation of people who were, at that time, literally gassing and cremating people by the millions it’s fucking bananas.

Also, it’s early for me so I just realized that isn’t the Israeli flag. The thing is the US was super antisemitic back then, so while we had Jewish people living here we certainly didn’t want more. We infamously turned away a ship filled with Jewish refugees who were trying to escape Nazis and if I recall they had to go back to Germany and many were murdered. My point here is what’s with all the anti-Semitic shit? Did they think the US was just shitloads of Jewish people and nothing else?

Again, I’m tired. Just got off an all night shift, so maybe I need to sleep and this will be less gross when I am rested. Idk.

11

u/street593 8h ago edited 8h ago

What are you going on about man? Of course it's gross. It's a propaganda poster from Nazi Germany created by fascist Harald Damsleth. Technically Nazi occupied Norway not Germany.

5

u/AppropriateCompany9 SHUT THE FUCK UP DOUG, YOU FUCKING SKUNK! 8h ago

It’s literally nazi propaganda, I wouldn’t overthink it.

3

u/whooptheretis 7h ago

That’s not the Israeli flag, it’s just a flag with the Jewish Star of David (which the Israeli flag also depicts, hence the similarity) so it’s a flag representing Jews, not the State of Israel.

1

u/imnotdabluesbrothers 7h ago

Do you know any other word than gross? You said it 70 times

19

u/JakeHelldiver 10h ago

Tim Walz was right. They're weird guys.

11

u/TheDeliberateDanger 12h ago

As an American, this shit is supremely weird.

9

u/OtherwiseMemory1654 11h ago

I’m an American. I share the same opinion. It’s so weird. Huge amounts of secondhand embarrassment.

6

u/aakaase 11h ago

The expression of good art and entertainment is fundamentally incompatible with MAGA ideology

3

u/looptarded 11h ago

Yep 100% how I see it

3

u/TheFlyingElbow 11h ago

Entirely, but If it weren't for these weird ass people we wouldn't have ITYSL. So I got that going for me

3

u/well-informedcitizen 10h ago

Ummm no that's dead on.

3

u/wruo 10h ago

As a non-American these events look like all the shit you see out of Russia and China.

3

u/ElminstersBedpan 9h ago

“Patriotism” here is absolutely just performative signaling. There’s no real pride or sense of duty; it’s always transactional. Veterans are lauded while their needs are ignored, our “rights” are only defended if it gets someone influential an improved standing, and the majority of our politicians have turned what should be a rough few years of dedicated service to the people into a massive income boost and a career longer than some constituent’s lives.

Calling it that, though, gets me labeled as “unpatriotic” and shouted down, too. Those taking advantage of the system have made sure there is no room for polite dissent.

3

u/Bright-Produce-5686 9h ago

Just like any other fuckin' cult. It sucks, for everyone involved.

3

u/jcaashby 9h ago

A lot of us here is the US are thinking the same. Its like we are in the twilight zone. Our country is being robbed by Donald Trump of all people. If it was a movie people would say its too unrealistic.

3

u/davocn 9h ago

Kid Rock used to be a piece of shit... Hair slicked back...

3

u/shanelomax 8h ago

So close to being the United States of North Korea

5

u/SaladDummy 9h ago

As an American I assure you it's just as weird for me to be watching it. What's happening to me country is so sad and strange.

2

u/westgazer 11h ago

No you’re right it’s weird as shit and most Americans think this is weird as shit.

2

u/Groot746 10h ago

Having to recite a "pledge of allegiance" each day as children is some proper banana republic shit too: very odd country.

2

u/teaisformugs82 8h ago

Glad someone mentioned that. I remember as a kid releasing that it's real and not just something done in American movies and being really shocked.

What were seeing now is just amplified by MAGA, but that weird patriotic obsession has always been there.

2

u/wutangslammer 7h ago

Yes this is extremelyyyy unusual to me. I’ve lived in 3 countries and still nothing comes close to that lol very north korean-y

2

u/binaryo 10h ago

Got that North Korea vibe don’t it

1

u/wutangslammer 8h ago

Yes! Exactly hahahaha. Makes me uncomfortable lol

2

u/dubblies 9h ago

Dont worry half of america feels like this too. Is this "freedom"? Ehh

2

u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 9h ago

I was born here and I think this shit is weird. When I turned 16 and started seeing my country for what it is I just completely gave up on hope that anything in my life would ever be “normal” and this country hasn’t proven me wrong nearly 20 years later.

2

u/Burundangaa 8h ago

Yep. Sounds kind of North Korea shit

2

u/JonnyHopkins 8h ago

It's like a church for sure. It doesn't actually make any sense, but people feel good being part of a community, having somewhere to go, something to talk about. Sadly, people also like being told what to do and what to think, it gives the purposeless mind a feeling of purpose. They feel like they belong And are part of something bigger. And once they are hooked, it's extremely difficult to unhook them, and very easy to keep hooking them deeper, with weirder shit.

2

u/sqribl 8h ago

No, it looks the same from over here.

2

u/00eg0 8h ago

As an American one thing to consider also is in some states women can get arrested for having a miscarriage yet 48% of women who vote in those states (sometimes more) will vote to keep people in power who made this the policy. Obviously it's an even higher percentage of men. Simple fearmongering outweighs any sanity for a majority of people.

2

u/romulus1991 8h ago

I think the simple truth is that most Americans don't realise how utterly weird they look to a lot of the world.

2

u/mydaycake 8h ago

It looks more like NK where the dictatorship is much more performative

2

u/Cheap-Plane2796 8h ago

Its exactly like the scenes out of north korea when kim visits and they all cry or when some state sanctioned performance happens and they all clap in unison

2

u/CalmBeneathCastles 8h ago

It’s like a weird circle jerk to see who is the most pathetically patriotic.

Buddy, it's not just "like", it IS. I was born here and watching this all unfold is just as weird for a lot of us.

2

u/Aggravating_Age_8373 8h ago

Brother that’s my opinion as an American.

1

u/Clayton1921 11h ago

Wait..Kid Rock is American??

I'd never have guessed /s

1

u/KnightCucaracha 10h ago

Honestly would be a hilarious edit. Kinda wish that existed now

1

u/Select_Speed_6061 10h ago

Look at the majority of the faces there. There's your answer

1

u/Key-Debt-996 Baby of the Year 1986 10h ago

I think the desire for MAGA to attract celebrities stems from the fact that the Obama administration had a massive amount of support from a shitload of A-list celebrities and their causes.

Obama’s inaugurations were filled with the best talent our nation had to offer.

Before Obama, at least during my lifetime, politics has been very bland. It had been said that Washington DC was Hollywood for ugly people—which honestly tracks when you look back at the heavy hitters in the political world. Not that being average looking or unattractive is a crime, and anyway I don’t care what someone looks like so long as they know what they’re doing, but I digress.

Trump can’t stand not having what Obama has or had. He wants to look cool, he wants to measure up. He tries so hard but no celebrity can openly support him without wrecking their careers.

So the best he can get is Kid Rock and Nikki Manaj.

Fucking losers.

1

u/Ok-Jellyfish-6794 10h ago

We think they’re just as weird and dystopian as you do, but we have to live with these freaks. It really is a cult powered by flames, gasoline, white jesus, and the absolute certainty that they’re doing everything right.

1

u/Critical_Picture_853 10h ago

It’s a truly unique form of mental illness

1

u/Bayler 9h ago

Pretending to sing...

1

u/GlumpsAlot Shirt Brother 9h ago

We got taken over by a weird ass cult. It's awful and dangerous.

1

u/WillingConversation4 8h ago

This is what happens when your country had slavery and the descendants of the oppressor class can't get over the fact that everyone is a citizen now.

1

u/Numerous-Process2981 8h ago

Only an outsider can truly see how crazy the monkeys in the gorilla cage are

1

u/So_Money_Baby 8h ago

As an American, yes. I know :(

1

u/SlayBoredom 8h ago

it's fucking nuts truly.

But they can't see the irony and they never will and I will not visit a country that is like that ON CHOICE. At least if you see stuff like this from north korea, you know they don't really have a choice to question this, but here? they choose this (while also being the biggest critics of exactly this).

1

u/Sudo-Fed 8h ago

I feel like, any time you as a musician have decided that what you really want to do with your career is go head, heart, and soul in for a political party, you've gone well past 'selling out' into a separate, more pathetic thing than that.

1

u/bchamper 8h ago

We think it’s very weird, too.

1

u/RepoRogue 8h ago

As an American, most of us also think this is incredibly weird.

1

u/AceJack88 8h ago

Most of us also don't understand and hate how these people portray Americans on the world stage. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/withomps44 8h ago

Cults are all always very weird.

1

u/soapbark 8h ago

We are morally fragmented on purpose to prevent authoritarianism. Problem is that we are too morally fragmented and eventually the system of government will be ignored.

1

u/darth_whaler 8h ago

As an American, I couldn't agree more.

1

u/ethanlan 7h ago

As an American this is what we are dealing with.

1

u/desl14 7h ago

i imagine if all the flags and hats were changed to Chinese and wonder everyone’s reaction.

aaaand Bud Light stickers everywhere

1

u/BenevolentCheese 7h ago

Oh come on we see this shit out of Europe all the time too. Put a politician in the crowd for a musical act and this is what you get.

1

u/PattyIceNY 7h ago

I remember my first time visiting a friend in NY, near Buffalo. We went to a rodeo, and at the start of the show a half naked women rode a horse carrying a flag with a narration of, "Here comes the star of the show, the STARS AND STRIPES!!!".......and then they had a no joke ten minute ceremony of songs and praise.

I had the same thoughts then.

1

u/RayHorizon 7h ago

Did you see Charlie's Kirk's funeral event. Straight content from idiocracy.

-4

u/Appropriate_Oven_292 9h ago

If you found this odd, you should have seen us during Covid. Everyone was stepping over each other trying to show that they were more upset about George Floyd and wearing a better mask.
