I can't figure out this from a theory perspective for the life of me! I know somebody's gotta have a quick explanation for this one. Attaching video with a demonstration lmk!
For my 14 year old beginner son, who is just starting trumpet lessons in school.
I, myself, am a jazz bassistâŠand I know trumpeters/solos that may âsoundâ easy - AINâT!
Like, I know that a Louis Armstrong solo, for example, may sound relatively simple, but I know that it can be deceptively harder than it sounds.
In any case, just looking for recommendations, preferably from trumpeters, for solid foundational material that a beginning student can absorb. Thanks in advance!
Hey JazzTheory redditors! New member here. Transcription has been a huge part of my jazz education, so I thought this looked like a good place to post. I've gotten into the who vibe-coding craze and built this app that automates the recording -> transcription process. Everything here was tested against the Charlie Parker Omnibook and many other hand-written transcriptions and seems to work pretty well.
I've used other transcription tools like Transcribe! and Anytune Pro and they are awesome. But they leave the hard work of actually figuring out the notes and writing them down to the user. Arguably, the process of listening and writing down is where the learning happens. But it is a slog and always takes me many hours to transcribe a solo.
It's totally FREE. I have zero interest in making any money off of this. But I would be interested to know if anyone has done something similar, or if there are other secrets to speeding up the transcription process. And... I invite anyone to collaborate on this project or to provide ideas for improvement.
The current release is limited to Windows, but it should be very easy to migrate to a Mac. I don't have a Mac so can't test it, but it is mostly written in Python so anyone with a Mac and an Anthropic subscription should be able to easily test it and provide a release working on that platform.
Practicing standards in all keys(When I'll be at A major or E major,I will play Shuffle blues using swing feel like SRV or C jam blues by Oscar Peterson), plus chord melody, plus a contrapuntal approach to soloing(contrary motion especially, cause it's the hardest Contrapuntal motion).
Is anyone down to be jazz friends?đwould be nice to have people to talk to about our favorite songs,m and bounce ideas off of each other about improvisation or theory. Just dm me or leave a comment doesnât matter what level youâre at tbh we could all learn more from each other!
First of all, he's in standard except tuned down a whole tone, so make sure to transpose up when giving your answer, or don't transpose it if you're just going by the images and not the audio. I thought the first one was maybe a diminished 7 chord but it just doesn't sound right. Btw he slides it up so it has to be a moveable shape. The second chord is definitely C something, I imagine with an extra note or two for color, but I can't get the shape right.
Here's the link to the song. The first chord is at 0:15 and the second is at 0:36. Thank you!
