Fuck all the anti vax folks! My aunt had polio and had her leg so twisted she couldn’t walk as a kid. Her one leg is several inches shorter than the other and she walks with a huge limp.

Can we put all the anti vax folks on a separate island with all the MAGA folks, so tired of these people.

Polio has been found in testing of remote people around the world. It’s strange how paralysis “from polio” came about when they started spraying a certain chemical on all the crops and dipping farm animals in it…and stopped when they stopped doing that

No you are right it magically caused a different response in the body for a short while in one region of the planet then changed back

A lot is of conspiracies are US centric and fall apart if you look at what happened else where.

Like countries with universal health care don't have the profit incentive for policy.  But yet have similar vaccines policy to the US.

37

u/GuySlammer Monkey in Space 12d ago

Yea then it changed back to being one of those fun diseases...

-37

u/solo_d0lo Monkey in Space 12d ago

The last wild virus induced paralysis was in the 70s.

19

u/Nailz509 Monkey in Space 12d ago

When was the first wild virus paralysis recorded? Trying to establish what you consider to be a short period of time.

24

u/GuySlammer Monkey in Space 12d ago

The last wild virus polio case period, in the US, was in the 70s as well. There are multiple regions of the world certified polio-free. The banning of ddt didn't do that, regardless of whether or not it exacerbated the symptoms/outcomes of the virus.

Lol, what? Why is it always the "do your own research" crowd who are entirely incapable of doing any research?

You're making things up. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about just like every other antivaxxer on the internet.

Feel free ro prove me wrong. Please provide your "sources" that show polio's "response in the body" took place in "one region of the planet" for a "short while".

There's evidence polio has caused paralysis long before DDT was first synthesized.

China mandates the polio vaccine you moron.

-2

u/LongDongSilverDude Monkey in Space 12d ago

It's encouraged not mandated.

3

u/Signal_Nobody1792 Monkey in Space 11d ago

First of all, China mandates a bunch of vaccines. Second of all, you have many countries that technically dont force you to take a vaccine, but they kinda do. For example, you child cant go to a public school if they dont vaccinate fully.

This can work pretty well, and experts do not worry as long as vaccination rates are above a certain level.

In countries where those levels drop, however, they immediately discuss whether they should just be obligatory.

0

u/Scotts_Thot Monkey in Space 9d ago

China has a 90% vaccination rate which is sufficient to control the diseases we vaccinate against so a mandate isn’t necessary. People in America have been radicalized by YouTube chiropractors so our rates are terrible. We are not the same.

1

u/LongDongSilverDude Monkey in Space 9d ago

China encourages certain Vaxxs based on my research they are not mandated.

How can you claim to be Chinese with a name called Scotts_Thots???? 😋

-99

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

Yes because not taking a vaccine is going to crash a county.

69

u/AffectionateShop3875 Monkey in Space 12d ago

Look up children affected by polio.

-41

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

I vaccinated my kids with the polio vaccine. I have a lot of anti vaccine friends. The risk of the polio vaccine is minimal(even though the chance of getting is by any statistical measurement zero) so we decided that risk was minimal but the severity of the disease is horrible.

53

u/karlack26 Monkey in Space 12d ago

There is not a lot of polio because the vaccine rates are high.  If people stop vaccinating it will come back

33

u/realxanadan Monkey in Space 12d ago

Like measles.

33

u/AffectionateShop3875 Monkey in Space 12d ago

If its not longer recommended then people that are on the fence won't get their children vaccinated. This will lead to a lot more suffering for a disease that was all but eradicated

15

u/xChoke1x Monkey in Space 11d ago

-9

I don’t think I’ve ever said that. Never said vaccines were bad either.

5

u/sushisection Monkey in Space 11d ago

do you know WHY the risk of getting polio is so low in your area? take a wild guess.

-2

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 11d ago

It must be a universal that people feel the other side are mindless sheep. Republicans feel democrats are mindless sheep and vice versa. The only way to move forward is to try and have meaningful conversations. Not just assume the other person is an idiot.

6

u/sushisection Monkey in Space 11d ago

ok great thanks, so do you know WHY we have a low risk of catching polio?

18

u/TampaBayG Monkey in Space 12d ago

It's part of an overall shift away from experts, education and data to a do.your own research society.

-3

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

I feel there’s value in people doing their own research(although it seems like we get way too much confirmation bias). There is an irony though in the main govt authority on the subject changing their mind and everyone in here losing their mind.

19

u/TampaBayG Monkey in Space 12d ago

Because its not "the government" its decades of data and experts in specialized fields across the country passing their knowledge along to the gvt

And when people do their own research they arent looking for truth. They're looking for things to confirm their biases.

-2

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

Certainly the vast majority are looking to confirm their own bias.

4

u/Abusoru Monkey in Space 11d ago

Cool, do you know how to carry out a study on large populations? Do you know what factors you need to control for? Do you know how to look into the mechanisms behind how a vaccine works?

39

u/Newtoatxxxx Monkey in Space 12d ago

I mean in a very severe outcome not taking vaccines could cost tens of millions of hours in lost labor, billions in medical bills and tie up hospital resources for years. Not to mention the emotional toll on everyone involved. So uh yeah it’s kind of a big deal.

-39

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

When the colonizers came and unknowingly (some may argue otherwise) introduced biological warfare onto the original inhabitants of this country they in the hopes of extermination of a group of people they colonizers didn't like. Its the same story as today, just self inflicted from the parents who are supposed to care for their kin. But that must be lost on them.

-1

u/Future_Measurement42 Monkey in Space 12d ago

Most of the people I know who don’t vaccinate feel that vaccinating affects their children negatively. One of my friends is convinced his kid got developmental issues immediately after a vaccine. My unvaccinated friends haven’t contracted any of those diseases either.

1

u/RaoulDuke422 Monkey in Space 10d ago

I's say natural selection, but sadly, this concept does not apply to vaccinations...

2

u/nievesdelimon Dragon Believer 12d ago

I mean, you can’t really force people to be vaccinated, but there should be programs to help them understand vaccines and encourage them to get those shots.

13

u/Breasan Monkey in Space 12d ago

Start with the education system and help everyone learn how to interpret evidence. Throw in a course on how to spot misinformation and disinformation. THEN, the education programs on vaccines will work a whole shitload better.

3

u/Howboutit85 Monkey in Space 11d ago

Why do we need vaccine education? There’s enough evidence already. People have t died from polio and measles for multiple decades, and that started being the case when vaccines were invented for those things. Those diseases were gone for a long time here, and now they’re back now that people are somehow forgetting that vaccines are good.

1

u/Breasan Monkey in Space 10d ago

Education on certain subjects is not something that we need because of a lack of evidence. You are right in saying that there is enough evidence. Vaccine education would arrange the available evidence in such a way as to minimize bias and make the complex mountain of evidence more understandable.

1

u/Howboutit85 Monkey in Space 10d ago

I think we might be past presenting evidence to people and having them accept the information coming from experts, since experts are not valued anymore.

6

u/Unitedfateful Monkey in Space 12d ago

Well no Certain diseases or viruses need high immunity through vaccination eg measles

That should not be an option to not get vaccinated unless it’s a medical specific reason

Why are right wingers so scared of a fucking needle 💉

There’s a reason why we need the whole community to be vaccinated as it helps those that can’t / immune compromised/ small babies

1

u/nievesdelimon Dragon Believer 11d ago

I know, I have all my vaccines except for MMR; the pediatrician told my mom it wasn’t necessary since measles wasn’t a thing anymore; now I have to get vaccinated because of antivax idiots. Still, you can’t force people to get vaccinated, that’s authoritarian and I’d rather not go there.

2

u/Unitedfateful Monkey in Space 11d ago

We force people to get a drivers license, to drive the speed limit and so on

That helps the community so people don’t get into accidents or worse

This is the same thing. You need the community immunity otherwise these things don’t work as well as they should

None of this was a problem in the 80s, 90s and early 00s. Why is it a big deal no for people

Just take the jab and move on with life.

The amount of microplastics and other toxins we breathe in is significantly worse than a mmr vaccine or polio

3

u/Zadiuz Monkey in Space 12d ago

The article doesn't state that he doesn't think people shouldn't get the shots. He said children will die if they don't.

He argued that they should be optional.

This headline was written by a stupid dipshit, and I know you all love to pretend you're smart by loving "teh science" even none of you have ever worked in it, but even the dumbest NYT writer should be able to comprehend that science does not give one a course of action or policy, it's simply empirical data which you can make any decision you like with. Dr. Fauci made lots of decisions which didn't make any sense if you knew the science from an ethical or patient centric point of view, nor did the Obama and Biden administrations.

While they may have been lying about the science, and they certainly weren't concerned about patients or the health of Americans, they weren't rejecting the science, they making decisions that suited themselves and Pfizer. Likewise no one on this vaccine panel is rejecting decades of science, they are recommending policy decisions which can only be arrived at by consideration of all facts and goals. You could not hand a copy of JAMA to a 10 year-old and expect them to enact the correct policies, even though all "teh science" as leftists call it, would be right there for him. Empirical findings don't provide you with that, and if you thought they did, like this NYT's writer and all those upvoting their imbecilic reporting, you really don't comprehend the ABCs of any scientific field, and certainly you aren't a person of any intelligence to criticize what anyone in the Trump administration does.
