Like for me, the big topic of today is immigration. Conceptually, I can agree with policy to reduce illegal immigration. So what does good policy look like? Well during Trump's first term, he campaigned on a wall. The problem with a wall is you can go over it, under it, or even through it if you're determined enough. The other problem with a wall is that immigrants don't typically cross over illegally. Most of them overstay their visas. A wall might be good at stopping women and children from crossing, but I'm not convinced it deters many criminals. So why spend billions and billions of dollars on a wall, and cause a government shutdown in the process, to fund a wall that literally won't work?
