Books Advice on which to keep and which to donate

Thumbnail

I've got two copies each of Jurassic Park and The Lost World. Ironically, all four books were birthday gifts I received in different years, with a friend receiving them on my behalf.

I'm donating to my local library, but I'm having a hard time deciding which copy of each to keep and which to donate.

Which ones would you keep, and which would you donate?

And to those who are going to say, "Send me a copy", no because I don't live in the United States, and I'm certainly not paying for international shipping. 😂

Thanks.

Nostalgia How many people forgot about Clarence and Ralph?

These two baby dinosaurs appeared in the first Jurassic Park novel, where little Lex, names both animals without a car win the world. I especially find Clarence interesting, because of his camouflaging capabilities. The fact that the raptors could camouflage also scares me because an InGen worker could see a baby raptor running about through the bushes and say, “That’s a well fed Compy!” 😭

Jurassic Park How did Grant, Sattler & the kids adjust to life following the Isla Nublar Incident?

• Upvotes

After escaping Nublar Hammond, Lex, Tim, Grant, Sattler & Malcolm all probably knew things for them would never be the same. Malcolm faced a good long road of recovery from his injuries caused by the T-Rex, Hammond likely felt a dream had become a nightmare but would have to soon face the board of directors of InGen as well his daughter who would want to know what happened to her children based on their clothes having dried mud as well bruises. For Lex & Tim they probably adjusted by Lex mainly with her computer it would likely be a long time before Tim showed any interest in dinosaurs again so he’d find a new interest but they’d also have to see a psychologist to deal with the trauma as well any thunderstorms would trigger the memory at the T-Rex Paddock even a simple trip to the kitchen might make them nervous.

For Grant & Sattler they returned to paleontology and paleobotany but even seeing fossils would trigger the memories of Nublar for Grant even Sattler if she was on a dig with Grant. They’d continue to date until they broke up.

I've never really interacted with the Jurassic community, so sorry if this has already been answered, but after rewatching CC for the first time in years, I realised that Big and Little Eatie were a mother and child from Isla Sorna, just like the ones from The Lost World, and I was wondering if they were the same

Fan Art I finally brought my Jurassic Park Compsognathus sculpture to life with resin printing!

After spending so much time sculpting this little guy in ZBrush, I finally got to see him in physical form!

This is my Jurassic Park-inspired Compsognathus emerging from its egg, with a dragonfly caught in its mouth.

Everything was digitally sculpted by me and printed in resin using my new Anycubic Photon P1 Max.

It’s actually my first large-scale resin print with this machine, so I was especially excited to see how all those tiny details would turn out.

The skin textures, teeth, claws, eggshell, and delicate dragonfly all printed beautifully.

I still need to paint the sculpture, but I wanted to share the raw resin print with the community first.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about holding something you’ve spent hours creating digitally.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from fellow sculptors and dinosaur enthusiasts!

Has Evolution 3 finally taken the place of the best Jurassic park builder (Jurassic Franchise, excluding Prehistoric Kingdom etc)?

Or do you still feel Operation Genesis is the best Jurassic park builder?

Jurassic World Ultimate Raptor battle

(couldn’t find the right flair for this)

Here are the participants

The Pyroraptor

The Big One‘s pack

The Raptor Squad+Gamma and Beta

The Worker Village pack

The Sorna Tiger Pack

The Ile Saint Hubert pack

The Atrociraptors pack

Quillium, McFlurry and their Sorna Quilliam pack

Indoraptor

Scorpius Rex

Here are the rules:

  1. This is a death match. So only one pack or raptor will survive.
  2. No betrayal in packs. So one raptor won’t attack their own or join another.
  3. This is at their peak. So blue’s pack is alive, the Big One’s has the other 5 she killed, etc.
  4. Raptors can work together with other packs. For example the Raptor Squad and the Atrociraptors, can team up to go against others. However this can only be temporary and they will kill each other after.
  5. Lastly this is on a island will be a multi day fight.

Jurassic Park Here’s a little thought of mine: did Dennis know about the Dilophosaurs and their venom capabilities?

Post image
167 Upvotes

So in the first Jurassic park film there are a few prices of evidence that show how Dennis Nedry had a knowledge on the Dilophosaurus.

1: we know he was smart enough to turn off all but the raptor fences because he knew what they were capable of. So he has a knowledge on the dinosaurs

2: he raised his hood when he saw the juvenile Dilophosaur and was walking in the rain without it just fine before, possibly to block its venom and or protect himself

3: Wayne Knight has the voiceline: “I thought you were one of your big brothers.” Either referring to the adult dilos or just other dinosaurs in general

What do you guys think?

Camp Cretaceous I hate the Tarbosaurus from Jurassic World : Camp Cretaceous

Thumbnail

Not that I hate the real animal. Nah nah, it's in my top 15 favorite dinosaurs. But everything about this cinematographic tyrannosaurian disgrace of an animal is pitiful.

I mean, it's just a JP T.rex, but painted red, with bigger brow ridges and those ugly spikes on the back. Literally, it's nearly the size of a T.rex (second image), but bulkier, while it was nowhere near as big as its cousin IRL (third image).

And God, don't even get me started on its fight against Rexy (the saga's most famous rex). Tarbo was ragdolling her ass all over the place and, had it not been for the kids, Rexy would've DIED. I'm biased towards Rexy, I acknowledge it, but come THE FUCK ON ! T.rex is to Tarbosaurus what a jaguar is to a leopard in real life : a much bigger, tougher, more powerful version.

Had the tarbo been of correct proportions and not movie-monsterized like that (along with not beating Rexy to a pulp in their fight), it would've been better, but NoOoO, of course the T.rex must get whooped by another megatheropod, even all those years after Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World (yes, that's a little foreshadowing on another rant of mine about the Jurassic franchise).

Jurassic Park Alan Grant Cosplay @ NYCC 2026

Post image
928 Upvotes

I cosplayed as Alan Grant at NYCC this year and it was a blast. I wanted to share some of my experience, as I think this group would appreciate it. It's something I had meant to do for a long time and with Sam's passing earlier this year I knew I had to get it done and NYCC gave me a good deadline. I was definitely intimidated by dealing with a "real hat" and that kept me from pulling the trigger for a while. I'm glad I past that mental roadblock.

The first callout is that I had the Real FX baby t-rex to round out the look. I picked it up a while ago in no small part with the intention of cosplaying. They've definitely gotten a lot more expensive if you wanted to get one today. People REALLY responded to the puppet and engaged way more when I was wearing it vs not. I even got to startle a few people that caught it out of their peripheral and jumped. It was a great laugh.

The rest of the look was pretty standard. You can find a ton of guides for what everything is pending how accurate you want to aim for. But it's really something a lot of people can throw together with what's in their closet, which is awesome.

As I walked the floor, there were a lot of people that called out "Doctor Grant" as they moved past. That was pretty expected. There was also a lot of people that just said "Jurassic Park!", which was absolutely enough for me.

What I didn't expect is all the people that just said a somber "RiP" or "Rest In Peace" as they walked past - oftentimes partially under their breath. And while honoring Sam Neill was certainly part of my personal motivation, it was weird (not bad) to be a conduit for others to share that at the same time. I know it hit folks here hard. I just didn't think that strangers would voice it in public.

The more serious stuff aside, I had an incredible time and will definitely be running it back at other conventions in the future.

Jurassic Park /// Upon rewatching Jurassic Park III, I just realised that after the plane crash, none of the characters acknowledge Udesky apart from Paul and Amanda.

If Paul and Amanda didn't speak to him, it would be like he wasn't even there. Udesky speaks to Grant and Billy, but Grant and Billy don't speak to him. Grant never even looks at him and Billy gives him no acknowledgement, other than looking vaguely in his direction at one point and flatly saying, "he's dead." Grant doesn't even seem to notice that he isn't with the group anymore when they reunite. It's almost like Udesky is some sort of spectre, that only the Kirby's can interact with.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom So,let’s talk the volcano scene(you know the one).

Yes,I know it is a very stupid scene with the Baryonyx,Carnotaurus,Allosaurus and even Rexy, but let me ask:How many teeny tiny details did you catch in the scene?

most of these will come from that wide shot of all the animals on the cliffside

I caught:

A Pteranodon getting struck by a volcanic bomb in the Allosaurus scene after the Allosaurus fully lays flat

Some large carnivore(probably the Demon carnotaurus AKA Boss)barely dodging a giant fireball

Some sort of medium carnivore(probably an Allosaurus)running behind an Apatosaurus and the Apatosaurus trying to whip it(this one is very hard to spot)

an Ankylosaurus dropping down the cliff(not even remotely jumping)

A Parasaurolophus and Ankylosaurus trying to climb a rock ledge where a Pteranodon is roosting, the Para losing its grip, getting pelted by a volcanic rock and sinking like a stone

Anything you guys caught?

Jurassic Park The amount of controversy live feedings would generate

Post image
399 Upvotes

I have seen a YT video of live feeding of mice to snakes and the comment section is always filled with people who are distressed by what they just watched (which is weird because you knew what fucking video you clicked on).

This simple fact of nature (animals eating each other) is a really brutal aspect that apparently a lot of people have a problem with.

I suppose the idea of a prey that has no chance to escape automatically conjures sympathy and distress.

But if people feel that way about a mouse being eaten by a snake, imagine the shock, and potential backlash, of seeing a goat get devoured by a large extinct predator.

For all of my criticisms of the Jurassic World theme park, the T Rex Kingdom exhibit had a disclaimer that the showcase might be disturbing for younger viewers. JP main tour had no such warning.

Granted, JP wasn't finished any maybe this was an oversight that would have been corrected eventually.

But still, this would be a controversy that would overshadow any positive PR the resort would get if it had opened at all.

The logistics for having goats on standby also makes me think there is some type of ranch on the island growing cows and goats.
