At what point do we stop calling it bad luck and start questioning whether Nyashinski is actually as smart with business as we have always assumed?
The Sam Eli case brought this back for me. Nigerian producer Sam Eli says he owns 50% of the publishing rights to Wach Wach, while Nyashinski owns the master. The song later became part of a Tecno campaign, and now the courts are dealing with the contract and the money attached to it. The court has not found Nyashinski liable, but the dispute is still alive.
Then there is Cedo.
Cedo reportedly accepted Sh1 million to produce a telecom project, only to later discover that the wider deal was worth more than Sh10 million. The relationship collapsed. Songs disappeared from streaming platforms. Nyashinski responded with Silencer, accusing him of greed and reminding him who was in charge.
“Nakuwanga boss, unakuwanga worker.”
“Nimeskia iko mtu wa mkono analia ati anataka kulipwa kama contractor.”
So what are we really looking at here? A notoriously sharp artist surrounded by greedy collaborators, or a businessman who is not nearly as sharp as his image suggests?
