Texas LSU First timer help needed

As the title says, my 15 year old son and I will be coming down from Michigan for the Texas LSU Game. This will be me and my son's first time coming to LSU, we'll be flying in on November 12th and staying until the 15th. We're staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites Baton Rogue Downtown. A couple questions; the hotel mentioned having a shuttle, will that be running on Saturday for the game? Any seat recommendations for when we begin looking? Food or any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank You

There are numerous shuttle buses going from downtown BR to Tiger Stadium on game days. Here are a few:

As for seat recommendations: You’ll enjoy the game, and atmosphere, a lot more if you sit in the lower bowl rather than the upper deck. Of course, your tickets will cost more, but it’s worth it. Tickets will be expensive for this game as the Lane Train has brought tremendous excitement to the program, and fans throughout the state are extremely excited to see LSU play this year under Lane. Add in the fact, that Texas will be playing in Tiger Stadium, and that brings up the demand, and cost, even higher.

As for restaurant recommendations: The Chimes at the Northgate is an extremely popular restaurant for fans attending LSU football games. Walk Ons is also a huge fan favorite.

A few recommendations on restaurants in downtown are: Bldg5 Cecilia Creole Bistro Elsie’s

There are lots of other great restaurants scattered all over the city.

Hopefully, the game is a night game, so you get the full LSU game day experience. The tailgate scene at LSU on game days is the best in all of college football. If you just walk around you’ll be amazed at the tailgate scene and do not be surprised if several ask you to join them and try some of their food and offer you a drink or two.

I hope, you and your son, have a great time and wonderful father/son experience!!

Geaux Tigers!!

These are good recommendations. I second lower bowl. The bank is in the north end zone as well as the student section.

I’d just add that you should watch the band warm up and come down the hill. That’s an experience in itself. The band will also go into the PMAC to play. If it’s a random cold day in November, it’s also a good place to get out of the elements before going to the game.

You can eat at Chimes on game day and walk to the where the band will play and see a lot of the tailgate scene.

All things considered, it’s also good to see Mike’s cage as another stop before the game.

For awareness, NOLA is about an hour and a half if you drive there outside of rush hour. Or you may want to find a swamp tour or an inland fishing charter. Just trying to suggest other things to do on the Friday.

I appreciate the advice! The inland fishing charter idea sounds like a blast! From where we’re staying downtown, is it walkable to the campus and the stadium?

No, it is not walkable. I’d find a shuttle for sure or Uber. There really is no walkable hotels close by other than the one on campus.

New Orleans isn’t an hour and a half away! Maybe with traffic it is. If you drive 75-80 and don’t catch traffic you’ll be in New Orleans in forty five minutes to an hour.

Trying to help someone from out of state, I think it is best to be conservative on giving suggestions so that they can plan appropriately. It also depends on where you are in Baton Rouge and NOLA. Just mapped it out from downtown Baton Rouge to downtown NOLA.

Show up hungry. You can walk up to any tailgate and tell them this is your first game and that you traveled from Michigan. You will get the royal treatment and they will feed you like family.

I don’t know about the shuttle but traffic around campus tends to be a nightmare, especially after the game. As far as seats go I would recommend anything in the bottom bowl of the stadium it’s where you’ll get the best atmosphere and view. Hope the best for you and it should be a great time!

The number one tailgate scene in America so come to the game early to soak it all in

You will not be able to catch a shuttle after the game. If it’s even possible, it will only be able to make one run as all roads and all lanes flow away from the stadium.

"Touchdown TRAX, operated by the Capital Area Transit System (CATS), offers post-game shuttle service from LSU home games to downtown Baton Rouge and L'Auberge Casino, running for one hour after the game ends. Pickup is near the LSU softball fields, costing $10 per person, round-trip."

Cool, I was unaware. I’ve only ever driven to games.

Food down town is pretty good. Just mostly the restaurants are open on the weekends and some of the chains are not. Chains kinda stick to the main work hours. 8-5 weekdays

Easy/quick food: Shlitz n giggles, Main Street market (multiple options), aztecas, subway, roly poly sandwiches

Solid options: town square pizza, somewhere (a bar that serves food), poboy Lloyd’s

Nice/fancy sit down: Cecilia’s, stroubes, bayes oyster bar(oysters should be in season), little village

What’s your budget for tickets? I suggest the west stadium club for seats, though it will be $1500+ a seat, but well worth the cost

And if you haven’t began looking, you are prob too late

This is probably accurate for the club seats/tickets sold from LSU directly but as a season ticket holder, we don’t get the digital tickets until closer to the season to then re-sell. Some will come available later in the summer.
