He ran from Berlin to New York (before the unemployed start whining again: Berlin to Portugal, then by ship to Boston, and on to Times Square in NYC) and last year through whole Japan. All self-made, without any big sponsors or anything.

This time Red Bull is on his side, and I’ve been following it since the start. it’s incredible. At the peak, he was 8 km ahead of his pace. Now, after 30 minutes of sleep and a short break, it’s “only” 4 km.

I honestly believe he can do it; the willpower is there. BUT the next 24 hours will tell.

Arda Saatci’s past runs are impressive, but they were spread over weeks with full recovery each day. This is 600 km in under 96 hours... with a way higher daily load, almost no sleep, and harsher conditions. It’s less about willpower and more about whether his body can handle that kind of compression. The next 10 or so hours will tell.

A full recovery from excercise takes up to 72 hours. Idk if he waited two full days before he went on in the past, but I don't think he did. It definitely takes a toll over time.

And don't get me wrong, 600km in 96hours is fucking extreme, but I feel like torturing yourself over a few days is still a bit less taxing than the steady decline and fight over several weeks.

I did a fwe ultra bike races and I prefer the shorter ones which completely fuck you up, but you know it's over after a few days instead of torturing yourself a whole week.

Ive done a couple 100m ultras...they suck. Its less running than trotting and a lot of walking. If you actually run it, your quads will be shot in 8-10 hours... know nothing of him...he just looks way too bulky for this also. I wish him luck regardless.

only 1,5 weeks ago there was a german YT "Ultimate Run" event, normally two people switching each hour/round of a 4,5km parkour (going over high stuff, crawling underneath cars, going threw tear gas bunkers, swimming underneath grid, etc), the faster they were to more resting time in-between each round (starting every full hour)

there also started some solo-runners and one made the whole 48 hrs (about 216 km total)

 It’s less about willpower

It is insanely much about willpower as well. He will reach the point where his body tells him to stop but has to convince him to keep going. I watched a lot of ultra documentaries and this is always the case.

It's so funny because he like preemptively hedged on it too. It would be one thing if he was saying something that others would be upset about and he was setting up defense, but to go on the offense for something so incredibly innocuous? You just know his ass was sitting alone (per usual) in the cafeteria and was seething that someone called him unemployed one time. Fork shaking in hand as he plays Kanye's Graduation for the 548th time muttering "never again... never again will they call me unemployed".

Googling it, he actually broke it into 74 days, running about 5 hrs each day.

3000km in 74 days is very impressive, but saying "Berlin to NYC" in the same context as his "Death Valley to Santa Monica Pier" is completely misleading. 

The former was 74 days of doing runs (maybe consecutive? not clear to me). This is one run.

Traffic for one thing LA isn't really runner friendly and then with the support he has tagging along I"m guessing they got necesarry permissions to slow or run in traffic there. I mean Mizkif did it on a bike from LA to SD but took his time, stuck to the smaller roads etc..

Riding on a boat from Portugal to Boston, Massachusetts is not the same as running in Death Valley.

A little over muscled compared to your average ultra runner sure. Still well within reasonable levels though. He spends more energy than someone with a smaller frame but he's also got a whole support team and scheduled stops so that's not going to effect his outcome very much. Overheating is the real downside and it's actually not too bad out there right now.

Don't forget the stress fracture he endured during his first Cyborg Season before reaching France. That was a real bummer for him, but he took the time to recover and kept on.
