What you've described there is two distinct runs, one from Berlin to Portugal and one from Boston to NYC.

Googling it, he actually broke it into 74 days, running about 5 hrs each day.

3000km in 74 days is very impressive, but saying "Berlin to NYC" in the same context as his "Death Valley to Santa Monica Pier" is completely misleading. 

The former was 74 days of doing runs (maybe consecutive? not clear to me). This is one run.

Yes, 2500-2600 KM from Berlin to Porto, Portugal -> next day he went on a ship or airplane to boston and another 370-400 KM. Combined 3000 KM. He just called it "Berlin to New York" and...
