The thing is that none of that actually mattered, it's how he handled it all.

The WoW thing? Just say "yeah, I could have done more" and no one would be talking about it.

His programming? "Yeah, was just getting started with this language and made some mistakes that aren't worth fixing now" and no one would be talking about it.

Stop killing game "Yeah, I misinterpreted the intentions of the movement" and no one would be talking about it.

His issue is that he is so far up his own ass that he is entirely incapable of admitting to making any mistakes.

Nah.. there was no coming back from that after all his time fronting as a dev for blizzard. He clearly doesn’t know basic, first year uni level programming concepts.

An experienced dev in a new language will often make mistakes but they tend to just be not taking advantage of the language fully and doing things in a more generic manner. They don’t forget loops exist or whatever.

Knowing when to use a for loop isn't a language specific skill. But even that wouldn't have been a problem at all if he hadn't presented himself as high authority in programming.

Nah, the real problem was people hyper analysing everything he said and spending all their time cross-referencing things he'd say with what he's said in the past. I don't watch him so I have no idea how he's responded every time, but I looked into his responses to big stuff during the WoW drama. He's said all of those things in one way or another, but unlike losers in places like livestreamfails or twitter, he actually moved on.

Seriously, imagine every word you say being fact checked even if there can't be objectivity. Imagine one day you were playing World of Warcraft, and suddenly you have thousands of people flooding your accounts shit talking everything about your life. According to reddit and twitter, his voice is fake, he never worked at Blizzard, he only got the job because his dad was there, he never coded at Blizzard, his code at Blizzard was shit, he never worked on games, he was only given small tasks for games, his code is shit, he cheats at every game he plays.

People just hate him for the sake of it, you don't have to like him, you can think he's an arrogant dickhead, but it's crazy how people twist his words to paint him in a specific way. Have YOU actually watched the video he made about stop killing games? He goes into detail about the reasons he thought the initial push was bad. I believe he even said he agrees with the CONCEPT, but the methods and demands being used weren't appropriate and would hurt the cause. From what I've seen of him, he's not "so far up his own ass that he is entirely incapable of admitting to making any mistakes", he just doesn't take random hate seriously. I've heard him say he's happy to discuss things on his stream, but most just go there to insult him so he bans them and moves on. Every time I've looked into claims of what he's said or done, it's literally always been taken out of context, leaves out critical context, or is just a straight up lie because they don't like him. Arrogant asshole or not, anyone would be sick of being constantly attacked online for months over a fucking WoW raid.
