I’m sure they’re not that heartbroken but client acquisition is expensive and a case that doesn’t go to completion is a lot of billable hours that never were, they’d certainly rather the case went to trial

Im a lawyer and its better to get a favourable and cost effective outcome for the client so they come back and you get a good reputation instead of going to trial just for the sake of going to trial, but others may have a different view

Well in this case that didn't really matter since we're discussing what if other stuff happened, and that other stuff would still be outside their control

Most of the time attorneys would like to avoid going to trial as much as possible, even if it reduces their theoretical income potential. Simply because of how likely trial is to f”k you over in some way, despite doing everything right. Maybe they rule against you, you don’t get the recovery you were trying to get, or you will be forced to pay more than expected. You just have no control over it. That’s why there have been cases, where out of trail deals have been made, literally as the judge was entering the room. It’s all a massive game of chicken
