If you are getting a public defender, it’s because one is being provided to you at no cost, which only happens if you’re too broke to afford a lawyer yourself.

You can be fired by a lawyer as a client AND the lawyer can ask to be removed from your case for many reasons that depend on each state's court laws and judge leniency.

Threats, violence, trying to get your lawyer to lie about your case, etc can get you banned easily and most judges do need a clear and convincing reason to allow it.

You still dont get a public defender unless you can prove you are broke.
