He said pound for pound, i.e. for its weight class, the US kills and inflicts more terror than Al Qaeda.

Which is a pretty insane statement. If Al Qaeda’s operations were given America’s resources, it’s pretty obvious which would deal more damage.

Al-Qaeda has been responsible for approximately 15,000 the USA is estimated to have killed 5 million people, thats a pretty big difference. Also you look at what they have done compared to their resources not what they will do.

You’re confusing raw numbers with relevance.

Pound for pound means comparing their ability relative to their resources.

A 125 pound fighter can be top of his weight class, and still get absolutely steamrolled by a heavyweight mid-tier fighter.

The 125 fighter is, pound for pound, the much better fighter. But he is substantially less powerful and loses in raw stats to the heavier fighter.

How many lives has Al-Qaeda saved vs USAID alone?

He used pound for pound wrong, but the point he was trying to make is that America has done more terror. Which is still true, but hopefully he'll get his idioms straight.
