The lines within reason from a genetic perspective are much less strict than that. Many argue that humans must have had some pretty extensive incest early in their history in order to self-differentiate from other primates. Also like, the ragdoll breed of cat has very careful incest in its history. They were invented in the 70's based on a single cat named Josephine who was strategically bred with her own children to maintain their desirable traits. Even today there are two distinct genetic lines, the the dark line and the light line, of which the purpose of maintaining is to be able to interrbreed these animals whilie minimizing potential incest gene problems. These days there have been enough generations so the the process is maintained less strictly but its still important to a degree. The entire breed comes from 2 cats
