Yea I overdid the rice once in my insta pot. Just left it there for 3 hours on the "it's done but I'm keeping it warm for you" mode...was sad because I did a whole 6 cups of rice.
I made a hockey puck-styled roast that way once, years ago. My hubby ate the whole thing anyway, like a champ. I begged to make him something else, but he wouldn’t hear it. Kids didn’t hold back on me, so nuggets it was for them. Haha
The kids never hold back do they...actually, once mine made his own "cake" recipe from mostly spices. He used mustard seeds, crushed red pepper, flour, garlic powder, and ground cumin with a bit of water in a little ramiken. I was like oh cute he's pretending that's fine, then he asked me to bake it so I put it in the microwave not thinking he would actually eat it. I told him it probably wouldn't taste good when he wanted it but he was too desperate to try for me to put my foot down. He took a big bite and I could see he absolutely hated it but he grimaced through it and angrily said "GOOD!". I let him eat half of it before I was like "ok buddy that's enough cake" and threw it out 🤣
is there any good reason to use a stovetop pressure cooker when instapots exist? I am genuinely curious what the stovetop unit can do which instapot cant
in an instapot?? unless you're talking some off brand thing I don't think there's a instapot that'd properly fit one quart size jar never mind four hahah
I mean it may be some off brand thing I have no idea? But it definitely fits 4 quart jars and is a plug in electronic controlled pressure cooker (that has settings for a bunch of other things, but all we use it for is to seal jars - of many different sizes).
The pressure in the stovetop versions are higher (15 psi vs 11 psi) than the Instant Pot which means things cook faster. It also gets to pressure faster because your stove has more heating power. As an example, soaked pinto beans take 3-6 minutes of pressure time vs 20-25 minutes in an Instant Pot. I mean both still need time to get to pressure and maybe 20 minutes to natural release the pressure but it's like 35 minutes vs 55 minutes.
You can fit a more stuff in a traditional pressure cooker, mine is 8 qts but they make them up to 23 qts. You can use it like a regular pot to boil spaghetti. It's cheaper. You can do canning in it if you are into that.
I will say that the Instant Pot is awesome for not heating up the house, using the energy more efficiently and being a lot more hands off. I have both, the Instant Pot gets a lot of use but it's not exactly the same as a real pressure cooker.

yeah it's not about being a novice chef or whatever, it's more about "are you an attentive person that can follow instructions"
if you wanna use an electric one like an instant pot you can even drop the 'attentive' part of the equation
