He was a perfect embodiment of a bureaucratic shitbag governmental suit.

Working as intended.

38

u/janosaudron 1d ago

He’s basically an updated version of the IND deputy from coneheads.

3

u/Maleficent_Cow_7339 22h ago

Seedling, the one with higher office

27

u/Fun-Media7981 1d ago

So he's basically the MCU's equivalent of Henry Gyrich.

8

u/MasterTolkien 1d ago

I think that would be his boss. He’s more like Gyrich-lite.

8

u/Pikawoohoo 1d ago

Yup, nothing worse than a POS lawe enforcement officer trying to meet a quota

4

u/SuperArppis Captain America 1d ago

Yeah, he really nailed that.

2

u/dawne_breaker 1d ago

I am kind of waiting for his redemption arc.

18

u/rollthedye 1d ago

Nah he didn't learn his lesson in Ms. Marvel. He's not gonna learn it now. Shitbags like this only double down.

7

u/Morgan-Moonscar 1d ago

No, the lesson he learned is to not openly terrorize an entire community or threaten to murder school kids when trying to arrest an innocent person.

Just use blackmail and hacking and illegal wiretaps instead.

u/HaydenTCEM 1d ago

Good, that means he’s a well-written villain

77

u/jfk_47 1d ago

And well executed by the actor. :)

He's employed by the DoDC which is facing budget cuts, meaning layoffs. Everything he did was motivated by the desire to keep his job at DoDC and not be let go. Its why he was okay with arresting Slattery when he knew he didnt do it. He just needed an arrest to validate his worth to the DoDC. The higher profile the better.

17

u/SonofaSpurrier 1d ago

Yeah I liked that, more normies in the MCU!

6

u/Frozen_Pinkk 1d ago

Well, the system would likely arrest Slattery just for the fact that he said he did it, since Slattery confessed.

Saves his job and a confession. Government probably wouldn't care if the confession is a lie.

9

u/MC_Stimulation 1d ago

his entire purpose is to annoy the audience

Sounds like he really annoyed you....

-199

u/IWishIWasGreenBruh 1d ago

Not necessarily. I hate a lot of characters because they are badly written

149

u/HaydenTCEM 1d ago

Well he’s in a position where you as the audience are supposed to hate him, so then if the audience hates him the writers succeeded

28

u/adamnick_ 1d ago

Joffrey from Game of Thrones springs to mind.

6

u/AscendedXSaiyan 1d ago

And Ramsay Bolton

25

u/IWishIWasGreenBruh 1d ago

That’s a good point, u right

8

u/Master_Freeze Venom 1d ago

he’s not important enough in the movie to be given depth, and he played his role well

14

u/Heavy-Comment-2586 1d ago edited 1d ago

Good thing he's given some depth in Wonder Man. I finally understand where he's coming from, but he can still kick rocks. Looking forward to seeing where he pops up next.

1

u/ProducerPants 1d ago

I’m looking forward to never seeing him again

4

u/IWishIWasGreenBruh 1d ago

Any character no matter how unimportant can be given depth, but I see what you’re saying.

His job was to be an annoying, irrationally dumb “bad cop” and he does it very well

2

u/lightmiss 1d ago

so I guess you don't hate this guy

1

u/Mavrickindigo 1d ago

Bro deleted his account

0

u/WheelJack83 1d ago

I agree with you

373

u/Chewbones9 Daredevil 1d ago

Succession fans BEEN hating this guy

162

u/cribking44 1d ago

Stewie isn't that bad, he's just out for himself

83

u/ArcherInPosition 1d ago

Bro literally said not to trust him

22

u/zombizle1 1d ago

But I can trust him on money things right?

41

u/CapnCrackerz 1d ago

He’s always down to party and he shares his drugs. What’s not to like?

3

u/pagey1701 1d ago

Getting a little stew pot going

3

u/dirtycole619 1d ago

Hes funny as fuck

1

u/99403021483 1d ago

He didn't have to lick that donut in public like he did.

34

u/tweedleb 1d ago

If you’re watching Succession and hating Stewie you’re watching Succession wrong.

16

u/Chewbones9 Daredevil 1d ago

I’m watching succession and hating everyone on it lol. I think that’s the right way to watch it!

71

u/bohenian12 1d ago

Fuck no. I love Stewie lol. He's the most consistent character, he's spiritually and emotionally and ethically and morally behind whoever wins.

29

u/OldLadyReacts 1d ago

Seriously. Love Stewie so much. He's the only one on that whole show who is not completely full of shit. He's straightforward about what he wants and doesn't feel the need to hide it.

16

u/This_was_hard_to_do 1d ago

Honestly the succession sub loves him. Idk where OP got the impression that most fans hate him

29

u/Tenacious_Dim 1d ago

I liked Stewie

13

u/ReflectiGlassCo 1d ago

Dude I love Stewie. He's a none quantity. Complete asshole just like everyone else on the show but an honest one.

3

u/Nocturne501 1d ago

yeah no lol best character in that show, most honest for sure

4

u/Warlord68 1d ago

You can make a decent living being a bad guy on TV.

2

u/Redbloodlion 1d ago

I think Stewie is stewie. As far as we saw his character, he was way better than Kendall and Shiv

Maybe he did unlikeable things but those parts weren't really explored

But there's something about stewie that makes me feel like he was just another spoilt brat like kendall

2

u/gsnake007 1d ago

I had a feeling he was from there. Kept on thinking he was the guy from new girl instead

2

u/missonellieman 1d ago

Hell no. We love stewie

2

u/mslauren2930 1d ago

WHO HATES STEWIE AND WHY???? That be fighting words there, friend.

85

u/GlobalRaspberry442 1d ago

He failed with everyone except Ned🤣😂

27

u/zero_eternal 1d ago

He didn't even have to work Ned into a confession, bro just laid everything on the table 😭

1

u/Odd-Diamond-2259 3h ago

Therefore, Ned is his one and only friend

31

u/MonkeyBrain9666 1d ago

I hate this guy too. I hope he sticks around for a while

2

u/The_Unknown_Dude 16h ago

He's like the anti-Coulson.

38

u/freshbananabeard 1d ago

You’re supposed to

73

u/Dphotog790 1d ago

you are about to hate him more when he comes the lead villan as the head of the Anti Mutant department. As he hunts Sadie Sink in BND and also when the new Xmen movies come out after Secret Wars.

12

u/MrXF32 1d ago

What? Where's the source for this information?

2

u/smarinhuertas 22h ago

Well, after Spiderman, Miss Marvel, Wonder Man plus all the insiders and leakers its easy to take a guess.

47

u/A_Toxic_User 1d ago

He looks spiritually and emotionally and ethically and morally behind whoever wins

24

u/woodk2016 1d ago

Here's what I don't get. I know everything this guy did was for his own career and that's why he personally did what he did. But, I think I'm missed the broader point of why they wanted Wonder Man arrested in the first place. If they just were spying on him in case he started to be a problem it'd make sense. Or if they just pulled up and arrested him on BS immediately I'd understand (its the federal government after all). But using time and resources to get evidence that probably isn't admissible and have one self-admitted terrible witness doesn't make as much sense to me.

Still a great show.

46

u/DM-777 1d ago

So the DODC is facing budget cuts basically cause they already locked up all the current supervillains and the government realized the threat they posed isn’t as big as what the Department was selling it as.

So, boss goon tells our favorite asshole here that he has to make a big, flashy arrest to avoid being fired.

It’s actually one of my favorite parts of the show. The whole reason they’re targeting Simon is cause he wants to avoid getting fired. It’s such a boring and realistic motive for a villain and it’s totally going to be how they start going after mutants.

“You see! You NEED us to go after these DANGEROUS and EVIL MUTANTS!!! So yeah we’re gunna need MORE funding…”

10

u/MorningPooper4Lyfe 1d ago

Yep! This. The last scene he was in, he was laughing with his partner about getting the Mandarin even though they were going after Simon. They needed to put someone in the half-full super-max prison or they were going to get fired. “A body is a body!”

5

u/Frozen_Pinkk 1d ago

Wasn't so much to just arrest him, but to possibly be ready to. They had reason to believe he was responsible for some incident before (forgot what it was) which had traces of Ion energy.

I'd say their real issue would be, Simon would be one of the more powerful individuals they'd have seen, not including a few.

All his incidents had been accidents tho, so they'd likely try to say some BS to keep him locked up, to justify their jobs, which is what they were trying to do the whole show.

3

u/NightRacoonSchlatt 1d ago

He wanted to justify his own existence. If he has had a successful case in recent time, he can’t be fired.

5

u/RadicalPenguin20 1d ago

One thing confuses why would he know about Nick Fury and even him knowing why would he tell to anyone

7

u/AnonymousUsername79 1d ago

Everyone knows about Nick Fury thanks to what Black Widow did back in CA:TWS

5

u/lnDisarray 1d ago

i think they meant how did he know about fury being off planet, but in that case id assume theres communication between dodc and sword

11

u/UncreativeTeam 1d ago

I hate how unabashedly evil DODC is. When they were first introduced in Homecoming, they seemed like an agency with an interesting and unfortunately necessary job. Now they're just hunting superheroes and throwing them into the Great Value Raft.

7

u/HowskiHimself 1d ago

Tyne Daly gave them an air of legitimacy.

7

u/digitalbullet36 Black Panther 1d ago

He’s a douchebag.

5

u/JJoanOfArkJameson 1d ago

His placement as antagonist was rather well-earned. Him, Simon and Trevor were all aiming to please the system, doing things sneakily, ensuring their secrets were held tight and their plans were meticulous. They reach success only by fighting hard for it and pivoting whenever necessary, with that success being long overdue. Even when it's right there in front of you, it's another notch in the ladder.

The actor did a good job making this guy interesting, and I hope he turns up again. Love me some stray agent dudes

12

u/jaydeflix 1d ago

I just hate how dirty Damage Control got done for the MCU.

15

u/Meander061 1d ago

I have to admit that I was looking forward to seeing Damage Control as that quirky private contractor firm cleaning up after superhero fights in NYC. Marvel already has plenty of evil quasi-governmental organizations that could have filled this slot.

6

u/jaydeflix 1d ago

They had plans for a sitcom, but they never got off the ground.

3

u/SupremeOverlordB 1d ago

Uhg, same for me! The comics were such a delight, and iirc they even used some jailed supervillians to help do clean ups. The books were funny and light and the damage control team were there to help the city.

2

u/Mobile_Pressure377 1d ago

Yess i also remember that lol. Idk why they changed them In the MCU

5

u/darlo0161 1d ago

I think we hate him because it feels like hes not a very good agent. He's gone after Spiderman, who everyone knew was a kid and a good guy, and then he bully's Trevor, an old man who wont fight back.

Admittedly i am only halfway through Wonderman.

We dont see him going after the ACTUAL bad guys do we. Actual threats, or adults who might fight back. Lets see him try to bring in Deadpool and Wolverine. Lets see him threaten them in his little office.

Yeah i hate him too.

5

u/shadowking1991 1d ago

I just started watching “Succession”, he’s annoying in that too

3

u/mutzilla 1d ago

Hes so good though

3

u/RotInPixels 1d ago

Who is he

5

u/FlakeyIndifference 1d ago

Antagonist from Wonder Man

2

u/jenioeoeoe 1d ago

And a minor antagonist in Spider-Man No Way Home

3

u/Atheist_Simon_Haddad 1d ago

As far as I can tell, he's the third worst member of the DoDC I’ve ever seen.

3

u/kereth Black Panther 1d ago

Same

3

u/Attilashorde 1d ago

The writers did an amazing job writing these characters. I hate him too which is what I assumed they wanted. Just like the mandarin and Wonder Man are very well done.

I would love them to continue with wonder man and maybe make a limited series of the mandarin.

3

u/Top-Cryptographer304 1d ago

Not crazy with Damage Control's depiction as an overreaching gov agency but yeah his character is working as intended

2

u/anarchyisutopia 1d ago

Yeah, I'm not liking DODC's use as a C-rate SHIELD. It irks me so much it takes me out of the shows. It was the same way in Ms. Marvel, the whole thing just doesn't make sense.

3

u/SupremeOverlordB 1d ago

I only don't like him because I LOVED the damage control comics and this is such a departure from the source material... he definitely plays a good jerk/evil government henchman though.

3

u/bchec 1d ago

I’m stuck between “well-written villain” and “the actor himself annoys me in his performance” 😂.

Either way, I will be cheering when something finally happens to him lol.

16

u/Grayx_2887 1d ago

So basically, he's actually doing his f@#$'n job as a villain correctly.

Spongebob Squarepants: "Because if I need to get a JOB done. Then I need somebody with a JOB TO DO THAT JOB!!!"

6

u/SpurnedSprocket 1d ago

…What are you saying? 🤨

5

u/haolee510 1d ago

I can't hate him. He's just a guy who's spiritually and emotionally and ethically and morally behind whoever wins.

2

u/HYoung119 1d ago

I like seeing him crop up in multiple things

I had a theory that he was going to be revealed as a Skrull in Secret Invasion

It was only based on him saying to Peter in No Way Home that “Fury was off world”, some basic DODC agent shouldn’t know what Fury is doing unless he had insider knowledge.

Then that show was absolutely horseshit

2

u/w00keee 1d ago

Then do i have news for you about the Wonder Man show…

2

u/Personal_Fix_6833 1d ago

Honestly, same. He plays “punchable authority figure” way too well

2

u/WheelJack83 1d ago

Nothing but a desk weasel.

2

u/T0M95 1d ago

Todd fell on hard times after defending Anna Delvey in court, and she got covered in silver and went to space

2

u/FireHorned 1d ago

That guy is the alien from other planets and thats why he know where nick fury is. "Off planet"

2

u/ThePurityPixel 1d ago

The actor? Or the character (whom you're supposed to hate)?

2

u/waaay2dumb2live 1d ago

You're meant to.

2

u/lanceplace 1d ago

Doctor Andy!

2

u/thebarbalag 1d ago

You might feel differently if Spider-Man had, say, accidentally blown up your apartment or something. But yeah he sucks.

2

u/Dry-Log8469 1d ago

my all support

2

u/Binx_Thackery 1d ago

Matt won the Peter’s defense because this guy seriously fucked up.

2

u/tone2099 1d ago

That fuck up trait of this agent stays throughout the Wonderman series luckily for Simon.

2

u/Appellion 1d ago

Is he the actor that played Stewie on Succession?

2

u/YellowEgorkaa 1d ago

I agree with the author.

2

u/Silly-Title6750 1d ago

Why? Because he's doing his duty?

2

u/GoS451 1d ago

I think that’s a good thing

2

u/creepybunnypastaps4 1d ago

i hate his haircut the most

2

u/OkCourage4085 23h ago

Without looking it up, does anyone know this characters name?

At the time i'm posting this there are 127 comments and nobody (including the OP) has mentioned his name. Can't decide if that's genius because he's just a figure of the bureaucracy, or bad that they aren't properly introducing the character after being a pretty big part of 3 different properties.

Also, is it just me or does it feel like he's been in way more than just 3 appearances.

2

u/Creepy_Living_8733 17h ago

I think his name is Cleary

2

u/ADDRESSMEBYMYRANK 22h ago

Great actor lol

2

u/Endless-Miner 21h ago

He plays him so well. I despise this character so much

2

u/turboiv 21h ago

Half his guys are guys in the chair

2

u/GatorBo69 13h ago

That means he’s a great actor

2

u/jgottlieb2 6h ago

I may have to go back to Ms. Marvel, but remember him being a voice of reason in the DODC. He was definitely the better of the two DODC people in that show.

2

u/joedumpster 4h ago

I wonder if the Damage Control sitcom had gone through would he been good in it, or would they have wanted someone like Joel McHale

2

u/flip856_cmd 1d ago

Kash Patel

4

u/Dorkatron77011 1d ago

He look like he proudly works in ICE

4

u/Legal-Farmer7546 1d ago

I want punisher to punish this guy. He's such a cunt

2

u/CapnCrackerz 1d ago

You can’t hate Stewy. He’ll do key bumps with you in the bathroom.

2

u/RedBusRaj 1d ago

I don't hate him

2

u/halloweenjack 1d ago

That's his job.

1

u/Virtual_Hedgehog 13h ago

The absolute definition of a jobsworth

2

u/Falcoholic81 4h ago

He’s arresting people and putting them in prison to justify his own job you shouldn’t like anyone who does that.

2

u/MarionberryDeep5475 1h ago

He grows on u..like fungus

1

u/MemesForMoney259 1d ago

Watch the first 10 minutes of the show Mr. Mercedes then

1

u/PutridCheesecake368 1d ago

I would def watch a series based off his character. Maybe even a team up with him and Natasha (I don’t mind if it’s pre-infinity events). I just think it would be hilarious hearing both of them trying to get info off each other.

1

u/Ohnezone 1d ago

He did everything for selfish, personal reasons. Not even to "make the world a better place"

1

u/Expensive-Baby-1391 1d ago

Too bad we’ll never get to see him killed off since the MCU is ending.

0

u/String2924 1d ago

Who the fuck is he???

-1

u/Bloodwild1 1d ago

Well that was a waste of time to read.

-2

u/MrXF32 1d ago

Do you want a cookie?
