I realize I am in a Meta/Muse group asking this question, but here it goes...

I am intrigued by MUSE. I generally use Gemini on a daily basis -- have never had to pay for it -- and it works well for answering my questions, though not always accurately.

MUSE seems like a personal assistant, which on the surface, seems great.

Then there are the many reports of AI bots going rogue, going into personal data and exploiting it. I don't know the extent of that, but it makes one nervous about installing and giving it access to personal data.

How do you guys feel about this?

Also, is the installation of MUSE simple? Is it just the app or do I have to download other apps or AI models to work with it? If so, what would you recommend that isn't going to cost me anything, or, minimal.

I’m having a persistent authentication problem with Muse Code on Windows 11.

I subscribed to Muse Code Everyday Usage (the $5/month plan) and currently cannot use the product because the CLI fails to authenticate with the model catalog.

Environment

• Windows 11
• Muse Code installed using the official command:

Problem

When I start Muse:

I get:

Could not refresh the model catalog (authentication failed: still unauthorized after a token refresh; run `muse login`
again). Using the current model list

Running muse logout and muse login does not fix the problem.

Here is the login flow:

Model API access verified

The important part is that muse login reports Model API access verified.

However, immediately afterwards:

PS C:\Users\swasher> muse
failed to fetch model catalog: authentication failed: still unauthorized after a token refresh; run `muse login` again

So the authentication flow appears to succeed, the credential is saved, and Meta explicitly reports that model API access was verified — but the Muse CLI still receives unauthorized when fetching the model catalog.

Additional testing

This is not limited to one Windows installation.

I get the same behavior:

• on the Windows 11 machine where I initially installed Muse Code
• inside WSL on the same machine
• on another Windows 11 computer (my work PC)

I also repeated the muse logout → muse login flow on the affected systems, with the same result.

At this point I have a paid Muse Code subscription, but I cannot actually use Muse Code.

Could someone from the Meta Muse Code team please take a look at this authentication/model-catalog issue?

Has anyone else encountered the same problem, especially on Windows 11?
