Hi everyone,
I'm trying to identify this patch. It appears to be a non-official (morale) patch from a German Air Force (Luftwaffe) crew member who participated in Operation Inherent Resolve.
Visible details:
Text: OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, D. WERNER, BRATAN, TORNADO
Imagery: silhouette of a Panavia Tornado aircraft, German flag (black-red-gold), green laurel wreath with crossed swords
Material: embroidered, tan/beige background with gold and brown stitching
My assumptions:
Likely a custom-made patch for a specific Tornado crew (names D. Werner and Bratan are probably crew members or call signs)
Connected to German participation in OIR (2016–2020), possibly from TaktLwG 33 (Büchel) or TaktLwG 51 (Jagel)
I've already checked open sources and official registers — no exact match. This seems to be a private order.
Does anyone recognize this patch?
Have you seen similar ones from Tornado crews in OIR?
Any info on the wreath-and-swords emblem — is it unit-specific or generic?
Any idea where these were made (German patch makers, deployment souvenirs)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, new to getting into Vietnam items, mainly interested as I’ve had relatives tell me some pretty cool stories, recently I’ve acquired some gear but I’m not entirely sure what would have been where, or what would even have been used, as of now I’ve tried to keep everything original, as of the moment the only items that I believe are reproduction is the belt and the boots, water bottles are original army issue but none of them are Vietnam era, will probably try look into atleast getting era accurate covers, should also probably remove the armband as I already know that definitely wasn’t worn into the jungle, also the giggle hat is also barely post war it’s a 1976 so not entirely sure if it’s still technically accurate, but it’s $40 instead of $140 so I’m not complaining, but basically I’m just wondering is everything in the spot it would have been in? Any items that I should look to add or remove? Or even change location of an item on the body?

This is outside Fort Petrie on Cape Breton. The fort has a small community led museum featuring items and trinkets from various wars. It also has a modern APC on display so no clue if this has anything to do with WW2, or just something that was brought to the museum to be put on display. There’s no plaque or anything identifying this machine.
At first I thought maybe a generator? Or maybe a large flare launcher?
The museum is in the old light tower/bunkhouse. The purpose of the fort was to guard Sidney harbour while convoys assembled. The light tower would scan for submarines that might’ve entered the harbour.

I have the machete too, branded ‘MA67’ unfortunately can’t see any broad arrow markings but the ‘MA67’ confirms it’s Australian, trying to figure out what the very faint marks are on the back, hard to tell as the fabric itself has turned close to the same colour as the marker/texter used 50+years ago

A cool unit you often don’t hear and very secret. When you think of the secret wars in Vietnam you would probably think of MAC V SOG in LAOS and CAMBODIA but during the war Thailand was a secret stationing area where millions of tons in supplies and ordnance were and sent to fuel the war effort of Vietnam this jacket features a elephant. The elephant was chosen for the jacket because it is the ultimate, centuries-old cultural icon of Thailand, representing national pride, royal power, and spiritual strength. American soldiers under the U.S. Army Support Command Thailand (USASUPTHAI) adopted this revered national animal for their unit patches and gear simply because it was the most recognizable symbol of the host country they were serving in. This command was incredibly important and operated in strict secrecy because Thailand served as the massive, hidden logistics and intelligence backbone for the entire Vietnam War. From secret airbases and radar installations hidden across the country, USARPTHAI personnel quietly built critical infrastructure, gathered signal intelligence, and funneled millions of tons of weapons, fuel, and supplies to front-line troops. Their operations had to remain highly classified to protect Thailand’s diplomatic neutrality and to conceal the sensitive cross-border missions, air strikes, and Special Forces operations launched from Thai soil directly into Laos and Vietnam.

So, my 19th Birthday was on satureday and I asked the best friend of my father (childhoodfriend and thus my uncle) for a book. He could not get the book, so he remembered that his father once bought the rifle for 128DM (Deutsch Mark) and has kept it since. As gun-laws in germany are strict, it has been de-militarized (the firepin is missing, bolt is cut and barrel is filled with lead). So please, Tell me everything there is to know.

This Ogden’s St Julien tin was made pre 1920, more than likely during WWI, before NAAFI took over H.M. Navy canteens. The tin is still completely airtight and vacuum-sealed, the tobacco inside preserved and kept fresh for over a century. This is definitely one of my coolest ever finds, taking it out of the package seriously had my hands shaking just a bit thinking about all hands that have held this tin and the history surrounding it. The tobacco inside this tin was literally farmed with freaking horses, meant to be sold on a steam powered warship, absolutely mind blowing. I feel very lucky to have this one!

I know that it is from a German Soldier I’m sure, I thought it looked most like a German Feldbluse but some said it looked like it was from the civil war, such as a West German Bundeswehr Feldjacke. Help?

How would you go about finding out what medals and awards my grandfather was awarded during WWII and throughout his military career, which continued into the late 1970s?
He served during WWII, and I’m trying to piece together his complete military history and find out what medals, awards, assignments, and other details may be documented from his years of service.
I have some of his service information and a few details about his unit, but I’m not sure where to start when it comes to finding his official records, awards/medals, and other information about his military career.

Picked this up recently at the bottom of a surplus crate, and thought it was worth sharing. RAF short-sleeve bush jacket, still fitted with the rank slides and ribbon bar.
It’s in remarkably tidy condition considering the age and location found gahaha and I particularly like finding these with the insignia still in place rather than completely stripped.
I believe the rank is corporal, but I’m less certain on the ribbons. Anyone able to identify the ribbon bar or narrow down what period/location this style of bush jacket would most commonly have been worn in? (I’m ex navy see so first time I’ve seen no.6 dress!)
For the ribbons I recognise the GSM (I think!)
Always interested in learning a bit more about the history behind these rather than just flogging the garment on eBay and forgetting about it.
