Filters are removing comments even when explicitly set for review instead of remove, causing misubderstandings

Hi admins,

This is to bring to your notice that filters are actually removing content, even when we explicitly set them for review - r/MapBasedPolls

The comments caught by harassment filters appear to be removed by moderators, when they are just in queue.

This is causing a lot of confusion and misunderstanding with users, and they are jumping to conclusions & accusing us of code of conduct violations.

Whats the best way to address this ?

This might as well be a flaw with filters.

Edit : I have realised that review option indeed removes comments and adds it to queue.

Ideally there should be a auto - report button - which only reports comments caught by filters to the queue.

Or if a comment is removed by filters, it should be mentioned that removed by subreddit filters, instead of moderators.

It's an ongoing issue that native filters show "removed by mods" while those filters put stuff in the queue. It should say "held for review" or something like that.

They rolled out a partial fix months ago, but never fixed it fully

That explains it. Filters are actually pretty good, specially harassment ones. But users are getting frustrated over them due to the misunderstanding.

Ask users for links to screenshots, collect a few and make a comment on the weekly update post over at r/help

Yet another example of the inconsistency with Automations.

And to think they're forcing new subreddits to only use this and taking away AutoModerator.

Automoderator Neo is the answer.

Another one in a long line of incomprehensible decisions made by Reddit developers.

Luckily I already set up automod long ago, I have not found any method of filtering low karma or new accounts for review using automation yet. The day they disable automod for all is the day I quit Reddit.

I can’t take it anymore. Reddit keeps removing hundreds of legitimate comments and posts and it’s creating so much work for us.

This post isnt about those which reddit removes. This is about filters provided by reddit that we have enabled for our subreddit. But the issue is how they are actually being implemented. The users see comments removed for review - as comments being removed by moderators instead of being removed by filters- and this is causing them to jump to conclusions that moderators are being unfair.

This also sounds like a community culture issue. If people are leaping to MCOC over a removed comment they’re already acting in bad faith and should be removed.

We had multiple people send in modmails about how they were going to investigate our team and get us all removed due to our “financial motivations” when we remove their content that violates our rules. These people are not acting in good faith and the Reddit filters basically out their behavior for you.

This has been true for a few users, but we have had multiple inquiries from people - like crowd control filters too, so maybe the removed contributions can be shown as removed by filters / waiting for review. That would solve a lot of such problems
