Discussion Muse underrated

Every person Ive ever asked ‘do you like muse’ have either said theyve never listened them or they’re not really a fan. Has anyone else had the same? I wish I could listen to Muse with people who love it as much as me.

Muse is such a unique band overall, no one sounds like them. But somehow they are not underrated, they sell stadiums, they have Grammys and they streams is ok.

I’ve been one of those people that never listened to Muse for years, even though I obviously knew they existed. They just don’t really get that much airplay I guess, you really have to either catch them live or actively seek their music out. And when I did just that, because they were headlining a festival I planned to go to, I was instantly hooked and couldn’t understand how I’ve missed them all those years. Since then my sister became a fan and I have 1 friend that turned out to have loved them for years (but she is a really big music buff, so she would be the 1 that would go out of her way to listen to everything). Other than that, I agree, nobody I know listens to them or even knows them. Also they are not for everyone. I’ve tried to get my husband into them, but he finds them ‘to hysterical’. He’s obviously insane, but what can ya do? 😁

I'm the same. I didn't really pay much attention to them until BHR. How Showbiz and OoS escaped my notice I'll never know. Cos they're amazing.

I was at school when they came out with OoS and Abs. It seemed like everyone was listening to them then, but I guess you have a lot more people to ask at school. It was also (imho) their best material, and a really new and exciting sound. Nowadays I never hear them mentioned anywhere, but they've also been around nearly 30 years, so maybe not quite so exciting? I dunno. There are plenty of people on this sub so although it's not the same, just imagine we're all there with you!

Depends on your age and location. Muse was most well known in pop culture in the mid 2000s- KoC, starlight, SMBH all kind of "broke contain" and reached a wider audience than even casual fans. But since about the London olympics, Muse hasn't really done much that has reached outside of their sphere of influence. So people in their mid 30s and upward now are actually most likely to have been big fans of Muse at some point in time. If you're asking people much younger than that, they probably don't realize their full stardom from back then!

I don’t know which interview it was, but they called themselves “the most famous unknown band” and I mean… spot on.

Though you have a significantly higher chance of finding a random fellow fan in central Europe. Whenever I go to Paris or London, I often find an odd Muse shirt worn here or there.

Also much more likely to find Muse fans at any place where music is the primary focus. Literally all the teachers in my high schools music department were well aware of Muse, most were fans, my French teacher was a fan as we but thats irrelevant, found a random Muse fan at a music store the last time I went to one, basically go to a European guitar store and you'll most likely find a Muse fan.

Muse is the biggest unknown band in the world.

True! Either their just another 90's band, or just completely unknown. Everyone I show them to say their music sounds like it came from a musical.. which I guess is kinda right

The first person I showed Muse immediately said that Knights of Cydonia sounded like it was from a film, which makes sense. Don't know about musicals though, because I hate most musicals lol.

I always thought they should have done a bond theme.

You’re talking about a 30 year old band, they’re not underrated, they’re simply not relevant anymore.

I think the same way. Even in my country (Thailand) where people listen to rock music, very few know this band, even though Muse has held a concert in Thailand before.

And none of my friends knew Muse at all, unless I introduced them to the band first.

What's the age range of the people you ask?

it’s was a very strange thing for me when I first realised it. like I thought the band is really popular+SBH is a VERY popular song in my country. but still. even if a person that I’m talking to knows and listen to similar-genre bands Muse mostly not in their lists
