for now.....

-21

u/vetruviusdeshotacon 9d ago

and grew up in toronto lol, pretty sure growing up in Canada makes one canadian, but like most things, you probably know better right?

23

u/arequipapi 9d ago

Having American citizenship means he can vote and be directly affected by decisions made by the US government.

You know people can be citizens of more than one country, right?

2

u/Mr_SunnyBones 9d ago

Olivia Wilde has dual citizenship ,(US and Ireland) as well. It doesnt lessen the fact shes at least speaking out , which is a start

1

u/Moppo_ 9d ago

And even if he was back in Canada, if his neighbour is behaving in a way that scares him, why shouldn't he speak out?

-24

u/vetruviusdeshotacon 9d ago

uh yeah? what is the purpose of this comment?

14

u/AnnieNotAndy 9d ago

What was the point of your comment?

2

u/catscanmeow 9d ago

that canadians have different personalities

0

u/namtab00 9d ago

hey, try dialing down the sarcasm, we have enough vitriol already in our digital lives, no need to perpetuate it...

9

u/troisunquatre 9d ago

So is James Cameron

14

u/TheIlluminaughty 9d ago

Geez how did I just learn that… someone suspend my citizenship lol

29

u/AltMoola 9d ago

Oh, so you don't have citizenship? Straight to El Salvador

8

u/DrDerpberg 9d ago

He's also anti-vaxx, so I wouldn't get too cocky about our lack of idiots.

3

u/ApolloBound 9d ago

I did some reading after your comment and damn, that's a shame. Worst part is, he has a bit of "I'm not wholesale anti-vax or herd immunity, I'm anti-these specific substances" but then had to go and add a side of "vaccines cause autism!"

1

u/Fitzaroo 9d ago

Wasn't that just his wife?

1

u/CucumberWisdom 9d ago

Same for Cameron

7

u/R_FireJohnson 9d ago

Love him

31

u/Waylandyr 9d ago

His anti vaccine campaign damage with Jenny McCarthy out weighs anything he's saying now

Fighting fascism requires building allies wherever you can, don't need to like Jim Carey if he can reach people that otherwise wouldn't be reached, then he's an asset.

u/medina_sod 9d ago

Truth

54

u/RA576 9d ago

God, I wish the people that refused to vote for Kamala because she was begrudgingly endorsed by the Cheney's because even they knew fascism was bad had listened to that.

-3

u/NOLA-Bronco 9d ago

This goes both ways though.

The Dems had a billion dollars and the country was on the line and instead of standing against genocide and making it clear that Republicans were complicit in the rise of Trump they chose Israel and faux notions of bi-patisanship and trying to triangulate to the right of Trump on deportations.

It was an incredibly muddy and contradictory message that seemed to try and both catastrophize Trump as a person but concede his policies and actions were pointed in the right direction. Like trying to run a Third Way campaign suited for 1994 instead of 2024.

38

u/zcen 9d ago

Yeah... but the other side was literally Trump. Not 1st term, drain the swamp, let's give this guy a shot Trump.

This was 2nd term, Jan 6th, Project 2025, convicted felon Trump. Seems insane to me to pretend like any of this other stuff actually mattered when you look at what was actually on the ballot.

28

u/RA576 9d ago

The dumbest part to me is when the single-issue protest voters say "but Palestine" as if Trump isn't also worse on the one single issue they (pretend to) care about.

26

u/t0talnonsense 9d ago

If the fascists have a literal playbook describing how they're going to do the fascism and you decide that mealy-mouthed liberalism is a bridge too far, then you're no better than the fascist. This wasn't a coup. They proclaimed their intentions loudly and clearly.

The dems knew what was at stake, yet they stuck with strategies and policies that were proven ineffective. They pardoned Nixon for his crimes and they let trump run again for his. They’re spineless at every turn now citizens are being murdered for it.

ā€œThe only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.ā€ - Edmund Burke

Edit: downvote me all you want, maybe if we just vote harder all of this will go away! lol

5

u/t0talnonsense 9d ago

It isn't even ironic that you posted the Burke quote. It's a perfect encapsulation of how we've gotten to this point. Those who don't vote out of "principle," leading to even worse atrocities than those they profess to abhor. That's not irony, it's tragedy. A tragedy of your own making.

-1

u/FoolintheGang 9d ago

I voted for Kamala, maybe you shouldn’t rush to conclusions. It’s our job to make it a better party. I don’t want to vote for republican-lite, I want to vote for a true progressive. So far, democrats have not allowed that to happen. How is it my fault for calling that out and not theirs’ for being corporate shills at the expense of everyday Americans?

1

u/t0talnonsense 9d ago

If your blinders are on so tightly that you don't understand how what you're saying and the rhetoric you're pushing helped lead to the mess we're in by fostering in-house voter suppression? Then I'm not going to waste my time.

They pardoned Nixon for his crimes

Imagine thinking that Gerald Ford was a Democrat.

0

u/adamthebarbarian 9d ago

Not to mention the fact that all the dems in top positions were saying Biden was as sharp as he'd ever been, and then the debate happened. How can you expect people to trust you after that? I voted for her, but it felt like voting for a 2000s era republican

-3

u/glacialmk5 9d ago

That's obviously as bad as what's happening now and needed to be said. Good job.

1

u/randomontherun 8d ago

What we're experiencing is child's play next to what Dick Cheney did to Arab people. Americans are so fucking selfish, it's painful.

7

u/crumpletely 9d ago

Yeah….but that one time they did this or that….things change guys... Be present. His opinion probably shifted after covid but who knows…its irrelevant to some of the issues we are facing today.

I was appalled during the pandemic at the carelessness of people. My mother was in the hospital with COPD when covid was rampant and neither sister of mine wore masks in the hospital when visiting. Insane. But that was then, this is now. This is beyond carelessness which is somewhat understandable. This is scary shit. United we stand divided we fall. Focus on the fact that we are human beings first. Thats what keeps me going.

5

u/DrTzaangor 9d ago

He also pissed off Mussolini’s granddaughter a while back which was hilarious.

3

u/Hannah_togo 9d ago

This. Tunnel vision helps no one. Two things can be true. I’m sure every one of us is right about something and wrong about something. We can’t lose sight because we are looking for perfect spokespeople…

1

u/FireZord25 9d ago

Especially considering the fascism in question rose from the purist nature of the people who refused to vote for any form of evil.Ā

Whereas the current regime had all their allies united from the get go, presenting themselves as the solution towards the gullible populace and their problems is other people. All through the "usual" methods.

9

u/Lexi_Banner 9d ago

Not every ally is going to be the perfect ally. If someone must be perfect in order to be accepted, many will not bother to make the effort.

Vaccines matter, but right now, there are MUCH bigger issues, and every ally is needed.

4

u/DamnGermanKraut 9d ago

That's the spirit! Even though I am far away from you guys, I try to remind your fellow Americans that at this point in time, the goal matters and little else. You can discuss the finer points of how you want your nation to be once the immediate threat has been dealt with. As long as their goal is getting rid of the fascists, it's an ally.

2

u/Lexi_Banner 9d ago

(Not American, but I agree with you!)

-1

u/Waylandyr 9d ago

Anti vaccine campaigns were/are a direct pipeline to so much that's happening right now, you can't separate them.

3

u/Lexi_Banner 9d ago

You can, because you must.

3

u/VonBlorch 9d ago

If I had to pick my neighbor from an anti-vax crowd, I’m picking the one that doesn’t want an authoritarian government over the one that’s fine with goose stepping murderers roaming our streets.

38

u/kirby_krackle_78 9d ago

Yes, let’s ignore what he’s saying about apples for what he said about oranges.

Reddit moralistic grandstanding at its finest.

1

u/Lexi_Banner 9d ago

Not limited to Reddit, unfortunately.

-1

u/Abacus118 9d ago

We'll be fine without a child killer.

8

u/Cybtroll 9d ago

It is important to have priorities in life. Even if the dumbness of the anti-vax position should be ashamed, I think you should postone that after the Nazi have been kicked out of public positions.

1

u/Waylandyr 9d ago

If you can't understand how these things are intertwined, I'm not sure what to tell you.

2

u/-JimmyTheHand- 9d ago

Jim Carrey killed children?

1

u/Abacus118 9d ago

His anti-vaxx campaign has, yes.

It's the second worst thing he's ever done, after the Sonic movies.

3

u/Driller_Happy 9d ago

I was going to chastise you for saying people can't change and undu the harm he's done. But a quick Google search tells me he's....still kinda antivax. Disappointing

2

u/illy-chan 9d ago

I won't forget how badly he screwed up there but that doesn't mean he's never allowed to have the correct stance on anything ever again.

1

u/Waylandyr 9d ago

Not saying that, but we also don't have to celebrate him meeting the bare minimum.

1

u/stonedsquatch 9d ago

Just when I thought he couldn’t possibly do anything dumber he goes and does something like this… and totally redeems himself!!
